Magician does not steal an item if the target is KO'd by the attack.

In this replay, Delphox KOs three Pokemon after using it's Sitrus Berry but does not steal any of their items. It only steals an item when it fails to OHKO the Bronzong.
On console, Magician will still steal an item even if the target is KO'd by the attack, as shown in this video at timestamp 7:25.
