[OVERVIEW]
Magmortar is an extremely threatening wallbreaker in PU thanks to its incredible coverage and very high Special Attack. These allow it to break through many special walls that aim to check Fire-types such as Guzzlord and Jellicent. Magmortar also has a decent Speed stat, with a Timid nature allowing it to outspeed base 80 Speed Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Mesprit and Braviary. However, Magmortar is still outrun by many common threats such as Toxicroak and Silvally. Its merely fine Speed combined with its lacking physical bulk make Magmortar relatively simple to revenge kill compared to Charizard, which has much more long-term potential. Finally, Magmortar is forced to choose between being extremely vulnerable to all entry hazards and giving up a boosting item.

[SET]
name: Wallbreaker
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Focus Blast
move 4: Scorching Sands / Taunt / Toxic / Overheat
item: Heavy-Duty Boots / Choice Specs
ability: Flame Body
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Thunderbolt hits Water- and Flying-types such as Vaporeon and Talonflame. Focus Blast hits Rock-types such as Gigalith and Regirock as well as Guzzlord. The last slot is very customizable depending on your team's needs: Scorching Sands gives Magmortar a better matchup against Lanturn and opposing Magmortar while also being a safer way to hit Rock-types. Taunt prevents recovery from the likes of Jellicent and Scrafty as well as Stealth Rock from setters like Druddigon in a pinch. Toxic is a good source of chip damage versus walls such as Jellicent and Guzzlord. Overheat is a powerful nuke for Choice Specs Magmortar. Flame Charge is another option to turn Magmortar into a late-game cleaner, although it should only be run with Heavy-Duty Boots and a Timid nature. Magmortar can switch into a few resisted hits from Pokemon such as Whimsicott and Silvally-Steel, but it is easily worn down and better brought in by pivots such as Lanturn and Passimian. It can also switch into predicted U-turns from Pokemon like Togedemaru and Archeops to fish for burn with Flame Body, although this can be risky. Setup sweepers such as Scrafty and Quiver Dance Ribombee make for great teammates that can effectively exploit Magmortar's breaking power. Magmortar greatly appreciates entry hazard removers if it opts to not run Heavy-Duty Boots: Silvally-Fairy and Rotom are good Defoggers that can also bring Magmortar in via pivoting.

[OVERVIEW]
Magmortar is an extremely threatening wallbreaker in PU thanks to its great coverage and high Special Attack. This allows it to break through not only common walls such as Weezing and Uxie, (idt it's worth mentioning that a special breaker can get past physdef walls; instead expand on how its coverage allows it to break through common spdef walls) but also Special Defense walls that aim to check Fire-types such as Guzzlord and Gigalith. Magmortar also stands at a decent Speed stat, with a Timid nature allowing it to outspeed base 80 Speed Pokemon such as non-Choice Scarf Mesprit and Braviary. Even if running Modest, Magmortar still outspeeds Pokemon such as Timid Magneton and Modest Vanilluxe. However, this Speed isn't the best, as it leaves Magmortar outsped by Pokemon such as Sawk and Hitmonlee, (neither are like,,, to relevant, probably mention vallies and a random nyooming mon instead) making it not the hardest to revenge kill. This is furthered by its bulk, which can be lacking at times, especially on the physical side. Finally, if not running Heavy-Duty Boots, Magmortar can be very easily worn out by hazards, especially Stealth Rock.

Thunderbolt hits Water- and Flying-types (dont say flying-types. they dont resist fire blast, say tht tbolt also allows u to hit stuff like x and y other than waters, like u did with focus blast basically) such as Vaporeon, Jellicent, Archeops, and Talonflame. Focus Blast hits Rock-types such as Gigalith and Regirock as well as Guzzlord. The last slot is very customizable depending on what your team is looking for. Scorching Sands gives Magmortar a better matchup against Lanturn and opposing Magmortar while also being a safer way to hit Rock-types. (misses out on always 2hkoing regirock) Taunt gives Magmortar counterplay against certain walls that it may struggle against otherwise such as Aromatisse (aromatisse is immune to taunt u_u. mention how it prevents recovery) while also being able to stop Pokemon like Druddigon and Uxie from setting hazards and Scrafty and Mesprit from setting up, while toxic cripples switchins like x and y. Toxic is another way to play around Aromatisse while weakening threats like Gigalith and Guzzlord on switchin. Finally, Flame Charge can be used to turn Magmortar into a late-game cleaner, and is best used alongside Timid nature to outspeed Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Passimian and Mesprit. Magmortar can switch into a few resisted hits from Pokemon such as Whimsicott and Silvally-Steel and throughout that match, although it is easily worn out. It can also switch into predicted U-turns from Pokemon like Passimian and Archeops to fish for Burns with Flame Body, although it can be risky. Since Magmortar is great for breaking through Pokemon such as Silvally-Fairy and Specially Defensive Togedemaru, (i'd rather have u mention bulky waters) setup sweepers such as Gallade and Quiver Dance Ribombee make for great teammates. (gallade rarely ever sweeps tbh)

mention voltturn partners, bee's a good one bc of webs. passimian works as well, and u can include the part abt whimsi and steelvally there

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Focus Blast
move 4: Scorching Sands / Teleport Overheat, it's just stupidly strong. i'm also not a fan of having a negative prio pivoting move on a rocks weak mon with no bulk whose main purpose is to click buttons
item: Choice Specs
ability: Flame Body
nature: Modest / Timid?
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Specs makes Magmortar give up hazard immunity and changing between coverage for more raw power. This set is very prediction based, although if the opponent relies on Pokemon like Regirock or Archeops as their Fire resist, Fire Blast will often be free. Teleport can be run to ease the predictions a little while also gaining momentum. (it's rlly not tht prediction based when it 2hkoes 3/4 of the tier with fire blast) Magmortar appreciates Pokemon such as Lanturn and Silvally-Fairy, which can lure in Pokemon such as Whimsicott and SIlvally-Steel before pivoting into Magmortar, even forming a VoltTurn core with it if running Teleport. Silvally-fairy also offers Defog, which Magmortar greatly benefits from since it often finds itself switching a lot. (mention other defoggers here too) The opponent will also often switch a lot, so hazard setters such as Froslass and Mesprit make for good teammates. (due to magmortar often forcing out the foe)(also they allow it to wallbreak more effectively)

Gigalith would be a better option here.)Overheat is a powerful nuke for Choice Specs Magmortar if single-turn damage output is critical. (Virizion feels a bit more appropriate here over Gallade imo.)Magmortar greatly appreciates entry hazard removers if it opts to not run Heavy-Duty Boots.
