[OVERVIEW]

Electric
========

Magnezone's Magnet Pull allows it to serve as an effective trapper for Electric teams, taking advantage of threatening Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Choice-locked Excadrill by setting up on them with Iron Defense and eliminating them with Body Press. Its Steel typing provides many useful resistances to types like Dragon, Poison, Psychic, and Ice, allowing it to handle foes like Dragon Dance Dragapult, Nihilego, Latias, and Alolan Ninetales with ease. However, Magnezone is held back by its subpar Speed stat, leaving it vulnerable to attackers such as Hydreigon, Urshifu-R, and Victini. Due to Magnezone's weaknesses to Fire and Fighting, it is unable to properly check Pokemon that it otherwise would such as Heatran, Rillaboom, and Tapu Lele because they carry coverage against it.

move 4: Substitute / Discharge
item: Air Balloon

nature: Bold
evs: 248 HP / 44 Def / 216 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Iron Defense can be used to set up on Pokemon that can't deal much damage to Magnezone, such as Choice-locked Excadrill, Dragon Dance Dragapult, Gastrodon, and Ferrothorn, making it much more difficult to revenge kill for physical attackers. Body Press synergizes incredibly well with Iron Defense, as it takes advantage of the boosts from it to hit hard. It also hits Steel- and Normal-types such as Excadrill, Ferrothorn, Blissey, and Porygon2 super effectively. Flash Cannon hits foes that are resistant to Body Press like Dragapult, Tapu Bulu, Alolan Ninetales, and Hatterene. Substitute lets Magnezone set up in front of the previously mentioned foes, making it hard for special attackers like Nidoking, Tapu Lele, and Hydreigon to revenge kill it. It also lets Magnezone avoid status from foes like Gastrodon and Leech Seed from Ferrothorn. Discharge can be used instead for a way to nail Water- and Flying-types such as Toxapex, Pelipper, Mantine, and Celesteela. Air Balloon is needed to let Magnezone act as an emergency check to Ground-types like Excadrill and Mamoswine. The given EV spread allows Magnezone to outspeed Adamant Crawdaunt. It also survives Excadrill's Earthquake after an Iron Defense boost if Air Balloon has been popped. Make sure to preserve Air Balloon if the opponent has Excadrill so Magnezone can successfully trap and remove it.

Powerful wallbreakers such as Tapu Koko, Choice Specs Zapdos, and Regieleki appreciate Magnezone trapping Steel-types such as Excadrill and Ferrothorn, making their STAB moves much more spammable against Steel teams. Tapu Koko deals with Fighting-, Dark-, and Dragon-types that Magnezone struggles against such as Galarian Zapdos, Hydreigon, and Garchomp thanks to its Fairy-type STAB attack. Additionally, it defeats Ground-types like Hippowdon, Swampert, and Seismitoad with Grass Knot. Zeraora deals with specially defensive walls that Magnezone fails to take on with Body Press, such as Galarian Slowking and SubToxic Aegislash. Alolan Raichu can outspeed almost the entire metagame under Tapu Koko's Electric Terrain, handling fast threats such as Choice Scarf Blacephalon, Choice Scarf Terrakion, Spectrier, and Volcarona for Magnezone. Additionally, it removes troublesome Poison- and Fighting-types such as Amoonguss, Keldeo, and Buzzwole with Psychic and takes on Ground-types such as Swampert and Gastrodon with Grass Knot. Zapdos and Rotom-W both appreciate Magnezone acting as an emergency check to Ground-types like Excadrill and Mamoswine with Air Balloon. Choice Specs Zapdos defeats Grass-types that can pressure Magnezone such as Rillaboom, Celebi, and Tapu Bulu while also nailing Dragon- and Ground-types such as Swampert, Kommo-o, and Hippowdon with its powerful Hurricane. Rotom-W provides useful resistances against Fire- and Water-type attacks, preventing Pokemon such as Blacephalon, Cinderace, and Barraskewda from breaking through Magnezone and the rest of the team.

A Choice Specs set can be used to turn Magnezone into a powerful wallbreaker, being more successful in matchups such as Poison and Fairy; however, teammates such as Tapu Koko and Zapdos already carry Choice Specs, making it undesirable. Leftovers can be used over Air Balloon to provide Magnezone with longevity; however, forgoing Air Balloon makes it unable to deal with Ground-types like Excadrill and Mamoswine. Magnet Rise is an option to make Magnezone completely immune to Ground-type attacks, even after Air Balloon has been popped.

Electric

**Wallbreakers**: Generally powerful wallbreakers such as Spectrier, Kingdra, and Crawdaunt can easily break through Magnezone with their powerful STAB attacks.

**Volcarona**: Volcarona is able to easily come into Magnezone's attacks, force it out with its Fire-type moves, and set up on it with Quiver Dance, becoming a major threat to Electric teams.

**Walls**: Walls such as Galarian Slowking and SubToxic Aegislash are very annoying for Magnezone to deal with, as it cannot make much progress against them. Galarian Slowking can 2HKO Magnezone with Flamethrower, while Aegislash wears it down with Shadow Ball and can set Substitute in front of it.

**Super Effective Attacks**: Fire- and Fighting-types such as Volcarona, Cinderace, and Terrakion are very troublesome to Magnezone, as they can threaten to OHKO it. However, Terrakion should be careful of switching into Magnezone, as it takes a bunch of damage from Flash Cannon or Body Press. If Magnezone's Air Balloon is popped, it is very vulnerable to Ground-types like Excadrill, Mamoswine, and Landorus-T. cyrogyro said we dont need to mention se attacks so we can just remove this

[overview]
- add dragon to its list of resistances, make dragapult an example with it as well

[set comments]
- add dragapult to iron defense and flash cannon examples
- add tapu lele to the substitute line
- ferrothorn cant status magnezone, say leech seed instead
- discharge also hits flying-types like celesteela
- tapu koko doesn't really handle any dragapult set well, plus magnezone with iron def+flash cannon beats dd variants. use a new example here
- would mention alolan raichu can take on volcarona

[other options]
- would remove regieleki from choice specs examples, imo doesn't need to be mentioned since you would probably use specs zone before it
- I would give volcarona its own bullet, if it comes in on magnezone is has the potential to sweep electric teams

How is zone unable to check Pokemon that it otherwise would? Maybe explicitly mention that they carry coverage for it?)
