Making Balance

Hello smogon. I am a new player who went to play ou first but i could not survive there for long. Then i started to search for the tier which had my favourite pokemon. yes you guessed right. its zard although he is not on this team. This team was made in 10 mins. so , no team building pracess. This team contains 3 defensive and 3 offensive mons. So this is clearly a balanced team.

CLOSER LOOK

Bastiodon.png

Bastiodon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Impish Nature ( Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Protect
- Stone Edge
I needed a sr user and aphazer. I chose bastiodon as it counters the birds most easirly. Sturdy ensures that i have sr up. roar for phazing. Protect for scouting. Stone edge is the NU move on this set although it helps sometimes. Overall, it is performing good for this team.

Garbodor (F) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Stench
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Impish Nature ( Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes
- Gunk Shot
- Clear Smog
I needed a spiker and i chose this thing as it has access to both types. It also checks samurott, gurdurr and many other setup sweepers. Evs are pretty standard and it checks many physical sweepers. I use t.spikes if the opponent has bulky pokes, although many times with a little prediction i have setup both of them. Gunk shot for taunt users and clear smog for people who tend to be greedy.

Misdreavus (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd
Bold Nature ( Def, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Heal Bell
Now i needed a pokemon to spin block. Misdreavus is here for many purposes. she checks physical attackers with w-o-w. She is the cleric for this team but since i havent used it a single time i am planning to replace it with taunt. pain split is the only form of recovery available to her. But most importantly she spin blocks. i am thinking about changing defense evs to special defense to check cryogonal as it can outstall me. It is the most replaceble mon on this team. Please suggest something on this.

Magmortar (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 8 HP / 248 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature ( SAtk, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
Magmortar is the first part of my FWG core. And is the only special attacker on this team. It is a standard set with 8 hp for gaining a sr number. modest nature for the boost in spA as it does not outspeeds many things with timid. fire blast for stab, thunderbolt for water types, focus blast for bastiodon and probopass and hp grass for quagsire. i run e.belt to fake a choice set. It also takes sleep powder from tangela. It is a great mon but most probably it is leaving the tier and then i will use zard.

images

Samurott (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Spd
Adamant Nature ( Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall
- Megahorn
- Aqua Jet
The second part of my offensive fwg core , my fav on this team, and the most valuable to this team. It is very good for late game cleaning. The moveset, evs & nature are all standard. Aqua jet is the only priority move on this team. Megahorn hits grass types hard. He gains many oppurtunities to setup. This thing is irreplaceble. i love this thing....

Torterra (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd/4hp
adamant nature
-rock polish
-earthquake
-wood hammer
-stone edge
The standard rock polish set. Last part of my fwg core. It is my secondary check for yhe birds. Rock polish boosts its speed and allows it to sweep. earthquake, wood hammer for stab. Stone edge for the birds. Attack and speed have been maximized as usual for a sweeper. I use lefties as it needs to setup and comein and go out many times. He is not performing very well so i need some suggestions here. He can sweep teams but needs some support and...
LUCK (fuck stone miss)

so this was my team. i am currently in the early 1100s on the ladder. please rate it and give me some suggestions. thnx....

Your team is quite slow right now and seems a bit weak to Shell Smash Gorebyss. It could set up on either Samurott, Misdreavus, or Garbador and proceed to damage your team severely. Rain Dance Ludicolo does the same thing as well except it can only set up on Misdreavus. To fix this, I would suggest running Scarf Sawsbuck over Torterra, who isn't really too good right now with all the Emboar, Samurott, and Altaria running around. This would give you a reliable revenge killer against numerous things while retaining your Fire / Water / Grass core. On Misdreavus, I would also change Hell Bell to Perish Song so Ludicolo is pressured when it tries to set up on you. Sawsbuck cannot outspeed Ludicolo even with a Choice Scarf.

Sawsbuck (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Horn Leech
- Nature Power
- Megahorn
- Double-Edge

Misdreavus (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spd
Bold Nature ( Def, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Perish Song

Good luck, hope I helped!

Thnx for the rate. I would certainly try your suggestions:) Anything else.

Some minor changes I would give you would be changing Stone Edge on Bastiodon with Magic Coat, since it protects you from Taunt and you already admitted that you never really use it. I would highly recommend running a Jolly Lum Berry Samurott with max speed so that you outspeed the standard Skuntank and Absol sets. With Rocks, you still 2HKO Tangela with a boosted Megahorn. Garbodor can afford to run Rock Blast over Gunk Shot, but the choice between inaccurate STAB (GS) and unimpressive utility (RB) is up to you (though Rock Blast and Stench gives you a nice chance to flinch slower opponents). Finally, the choice between Modest and Timid Magmortar is up to you, though you basically lose to any positive natured max Speed base 74 and higher (most notable the base 80's like Gardevoir and Braviary).

I agree with FLCL that things like Gorebyss and Offensive Ludicolo are huge threats to your team. Truthfully, any fast Water-types with good coverage can beat you single-handedly. Since that mostly means the special water-types, I'd recommend Cryogonal over Torterra, who seems to be your weakest link. This way you have a check to Ludicolo and Gorebyss, a spinner, and a second special wall/tank. It also means you can keep Heal Bell on Misdreavus.

Of course, since Cryogonal has the same problem of probably moving up to RU, a tankish Ludicolo can also do the trick, and help against Rain teams in general. Jolly Samurott will be able to Megahorn any other variant of Ludicolo, so a tankish Ludicolo will cover the offensive variants perfectly for your team. Here are the sets:

Cryogonal (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Leftovers
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SDef / 8 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic

or

Cryogonal (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Leftovers
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Recover
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Hidden Power [Ground]

or

Ludicolo (M) @ Leftovers Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 152 SAtk / 104 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Synthesis
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Giga Drain

Good luck and Welcome to Smogon NU!

Thanks for the rate WDM. I have been following you since my first day on smogon :O . I am gonna try the ludicolo, but i think the sawsbuck FLCL suggested suits my team & my style better. If i use it my only physical attacker is samurott whose coverage is decent but not very good. And my team also lacks in speed. I am going to change stone edge to mirror coat and gunk shot to rock blast as you suggested. Also i will try the samurott set you suggested.
Thanks again...

Your team looks pretty solid. One thing I will suggest, though, is keep Samurott the way it is and to put Leftovers over Life Orb. It increases your survivability. Plus, with the Jolly Lum Samurott set, you will miss not having Adamant as the power difference shows. You already have a Heal-Beller on this team so you don't really need Lum. I've tried the Jolly Lum set and it's not really as good as it seems. Too weak.

Hi Indian and welcome to Smogon Nu. Your team looks pretty good but it has a weakness to Emboar which is one of the best pokemon in the tier right now. Aside from maybe Samurott and Misdreavus (even these two are 2hko'ed by superpower and flare blitz respectively), Emboar can rip through your whole team.

I suggest trying Musharna. Musharna has enough bulk to switch into a flare blitz (that isnt banded), take another and then ko with psychic. I would switch out your Torterra as it is the weakest on your team. Try this set:

Musharna (F) @ Leftovers
Bold Nature: (+Def, -Atk)
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Hidden Power Bug
- Moonlight

This musharna walls non banded Emboar variants and ko back with a powerful psychic. It acts as a bulky sweeper with Calm Mind and isnt easily revenge killed due to its immense bulk. Mushy can also act as a counter the various bird running around. Now for the calculations:

252Atk Reckless Emboar (+Atk) Flare Blitz vs 252HP/252Def Leftovers Musharna (+Def): 45% - 53% (199 - 235 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO. 2% chance to 2HKO with Leftovers.

I use this musharna on my team as my Emboar counter and it works wonders. There is a 2% chance for a 2hko but this has never happened to me. This should not deter you from using mushy.

252Atk Guts Swellow (+Atk) Brave Bird vs 252HP/252Def Leftovers Musharna (+Def): 29% - 35% (129 - 153 HP). Guaranteed 4HKO.

Good luck with the team and hope to battle/see you in the future.

Thnx incon and jrod i will test these suggestions and then i will update this team in evening. thanx again :D
