Hello guys, I'm Blank here to present my second RMT. I am still kind of new on Showdown with still only 3 months of experience, and I hope you can help me improve this team. I have reached to 1400+ with this team on the current ladder.
I was looking through the OU viability rankings thread a while ago, and I one of the discussions was about rain. That made me interested in wanting to make a rain team and see how much success I would get with it.
So, without further ado, lets get to the team.
1) Politoad (Politoed) @ Damp Rock
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Toxic
- Rest
- Encore
Pretty standard Politoed set, enough speed to outrun Max speed Azumarill(which doesn't exist). Depending on the matchup, this is my lead a lot of the time, it has some nice bulk to take special attacks, nothing else really, just standard from smogon.Scald is best move in the game, Toxic is up there too. Rest for some nice longevity, and Encore for screwing up something the moment I get a chance to
2)Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 16 Def / 200 SpD
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
I wanted a mega which loved the rain, and after playing for a while, I realized M-Pert wasn't really worth the mega slot, since it didn't do much more than the other rain sweepers, true it had a lot more attack, but the others still got the job done. I picked this over Mega Hera because of its better typing (and the fact that I like its design). Again, another standard set. SD for beating things like ferrothorn, which is a pain for this team, U-Turn for that crucial momentum, which I feel is the most important thing in a pokemon game. BP gives it some nice priority and Roost because I need Scizor to be alive for a long time, since its pretty much the backbone of the team.
3)Tornadus-Therian @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Knock Off
Tornadus-T is a really good mon, mainly due to its bulk and its amazing speed tier, outspeeding and gaining momentum on a plethora of threats. This pokemon loves to abuse the rain, firing of perfect accuracy hurricanes doing a lot of damage to physical walls and grass types which would otherwise be annoying for a rain team. I chose Superpower over Focus Blast because of the better accuracy mainly. Knock off top two moves in the game and U-Turn is for momentum.
4)Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 28 HP / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Ice Beam
Another staple rain abuser, Specs Kingdra is an absolute monster in the rain. I wish hydro had 100% accuracy in the rain XD. Anyway, in the Rain, Hydro Pump hits really hard with the specs and Kingdra's decent Special attack. Draco is for the coverage and same with Ice beam. Surf is for a more accurate Water stab which is stronger than Scald.
5)Kabutops @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Rapid Spin
- Aqua Jet
Kabutops acts mainly as my physical rain sweeper and some sort of hazard control, which is usually a suicide spin because of its terrible defensive bulk and typing. I run Adamant because I have the rain anyway, and I like the extra damage output. Moveset is pretty standard, with Waterfall+Stone edge as dual stab, and Jet for that nice priority.
6)Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 108 Spe
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Baton Pass
- Giga Drain
- Stealth Rock
This is the slot in my team which was tampered with a lot. I initially had Mamoswine in there as a thunder wave resist, then I replaced it with Seismitoed for a rain abusing mon which was also immune to T-Wave, which is otherwise very very annoying to deal with. Then I realised the team got 6-0d by Azumarill, and I'd like to have a Thundurus check too. Celebi fulfilled all those rules, including that of a status absorber and continued momentum. Now, I know for a fact that rocks celebi is bad (I heard it on a video) but tbh I don't have much of a choice. Recover is for that longevity, BP for the momentum, Giga Drain is for stab.
So, there it is guys, I hope you can help me fix the team.
THREATLIST
Oh my god this monster is terrifying as hell. Even Celebi can't check it if it has knock off, and most Band variants do.
Priority T-wave is a bit*h
so lack a switch in to this :( Had seismi earlier but its gone.
Thank you.
