Making Pokemon, Time Consuming or not?

I was wondering how much time people really spend on perfecting there Pokemon. I was just thinking of this one Pokemon I was trying to make. After looking over all the smogon movesets, I wanted a timid Gengar, instead of breeding, I just went to the tower in Lavender and caught a bunch of gastly, and I ment a bunch. Atleast 50, (however many can fit into one box) I didn't get a single Timid Gastly, I got one Hasty out of all it.

I got a ton of gentle, calm, sassy. I got one Adamant and I was tempted on making a physical Gengar, but no. I really wanted a Timid, so I decided to use the Hasty one. I EV trained it and raised it to a Haunter, and then traded it over to Ruby, (which is my cheated version) and gave it a Thunderbolt and a Focus Punch, traded it back to Fire Red, and went to the move tutor and gave it Explosion. Now I was ready for it to go to my Diamond or Pearl.

If you look at all that which was done that looks like a lot to me. I dunno, how many of you have tons of hours to play Pokemon, but I really don't THat probably took me about a day to do total. I mean that was just one Pokemon, how much longer would it take to do 5 more Pokemon? Are there easier way to get this done? I think this is very time consuming, and I'd like to find a faster way, but I guess it true, you have to take your time to get something perfect right?

What are you thought?

Once you've done it a few times, it gets really quick. The hard part is the hours spent collecting the Dittos with the right natures and 31's in the right places. Usually you can get a "passable" pokemon (31's in the right places) in a couple of days, I suppose. Really, once you're started it gets way easier.

I spent probably a week breeding Magikarp until I got a near-quad flawless (which was probably a little too ambitious, which is why it took so long). I wouldn't be surprised if people are willing to spend more than that for a "perfect" pokemon.

People spend much longer than that perfecting their pokemon. You can't just settle for the wrong nature. You need the right nature, good IVs, and a decent Hidden Power on certain pokemon. Settling for something like that isn't a good idea.

You're lucky you don't care about IVs or a perfect nature.

I do the same as you, except I keep a stock of 31 IV dittos with good natures and lots of ralts with synchronize.

I think I have more dittos than you have gastly.

Also for my first breeding project, Honchkrow, I decided to catch an adamant fearow with a 30 ATK IV (so I could get hidden powers on Honch that are screwed by 31 ATK). That in itself must've filled up 2-3 boxes. Man it felt good deleting them all once I found one though. xD

I spent two days breeding an excellent Duskull, 31/29/28/27/29/x.

I spent two weeks breeding this Rhyhorn, 29/30/20/3/30/4.

It didn't help that Rhyhorn had two different abilities.

I got a 30 / 31 / 27 / x / 9 / 31 Jolly BP Buizel. Decent, right? Well, noooo... I just HAD to keep breeding... =P I have to beat Leotke's. :p

I spent a MONTH breeding abras to get this: 30/30/31/31/31/31 HP Dragon 70 Timid, at the end, I felt very pleased after it raped the emerald battle frontier

How much of a difference can IVs make? I basically settle for Nature, egg moves, and Hidden Power(50+ power). I have been looking for sites that show how different Pokemon stats can be with different IVs but I suck at searching.

It takes me about 3 days to get the Egg moves and HP, and I'm set. lol. I suck. v_v

31 points is nothing to sneeze at, but the difference between 25 and 31 is minamal. Getting a perfect 31 really only matters in speed, and HP for 101 subs.

I say screw Hidden Power and just shoot for IVs and Nature...I'll be lucky if I get a decent hidden power (Got HP Electric on a Eevee I bred recently, turned it into a Glaceon)

Hidden power is only worth breeding for if your pokemon highly benifits from a good hidden power. Jolten and some other other electric types need HP ice or grass to be effective.

Your method of catching Pokemon reminded me of the good ol' days where I did the same. I think I caught some 30 Venonat and Venomoth in FR, planning to get a Venomoth for a new FR run. Now with breeding - it's really ridiculously easy. Synchornize also makes it easier to catch good natures. I only shoot for one 31 IV and good nature, so I get done fairly quickly. It usually takes two runs because I don't have 31 IV Ditto in the nature I want - for instance, I have a Timid Ditto with 31 IVs in Attack. Yeah.

The only time it becomes excruiating is when I have to deal with Pokemon with long hatching times. Strangely enough, I quit and didn't bother with a 31 HP Chansey because the eggs were taking too long to make (and hse was about 8,000 steps), but just recently I hatched some 20 eggs in two runs for Beldum, at around 10,000 steps.

Now just imagine if you wanted a triple flawless att/spatt/spd Azelf with Timid.
Really any legendary that you can't breed for is extremely tedious.

Azelf is probably the easiest since you can Synch + Speed test it with Zam or Espeon (lvl 51 Espeon with timid, 31 IV 8 Ev Spd can only be outrun by + speed Azelf with 30-31, and only tied by azelf with 28-29). I have an awesome jolteon so I just turned one of the eevee clones into an Azelf tester. :P

Of course with the right evs/level almost any timid/naive syncher would do the job for azelf.

I guess heatran probably wouldn't be too bad either, especially if you were going for +spd, but even Modest probably would be semi-speed testable with the right poke.

Well yeah, assuming you have that Espeon off-hand and don't have to breed another 31 IV pokemon with the correct nature and then max its happiness.

I was trying to be general, I know there are a lot of breeding and catching tricks to exploit.

You're certainly right dude. Even if you happen to have the needed poke, leveling/eving it to the right place is a PITA. Unless you attach rare candies/vitamins to the pokes you clone. :naughty:

Maybe I should go back and breed those eevees again for a modest one to go after heat ran with. It's a pita to go catch abras/kadabras when you only have a 50% of getting sychronize. -_-
