Recently me and a few of my friends have been trying to think of a way to make battles a little more interesting since we often see the same sort of things. Our solution of the week is the baby metagame. We've defined baby as any pokemon that cannot breed and you must breed to get.
Here is a list of what is allowed
As you can see the selection isn't huge, consisting of 5 Normal Types, 2 Electric Types, 3 Psychic Types, 2 Water Types, A single Fire Type and a single Grass Types. So a lot of common combinations aren't possible.
Team At a Glance
As you can see this bunch don't look very threatening when you are used to the standard set of pokemon.
Tyrogue
Nature : Jolly
Item : Expert Belt
Evs : 252 Speed 252 Attack 3 Defense
Fake Out
Earthquake
Bullet Punch
Brick Break
Here is my lead. I had a few options for lead, Budew and Cleffa both screamed out to be a lead. I decided on Tyrogue because I enjoy using Hitmontop and it can run a similar set. with 252 speed Tyrogue caps at 185 which isnt terribly impressive when faced with Pichu and Elekid both capping near the 300 mark.
Fake Out comes first to deal some damage, then I'll launch whenever I feel apporiate. Earthquake hits the two electric types and brick break the 5 normals. Bullet Punch is for some extra priority. I considered Rapid Spin but upon looking into barely anything had access to entry hazards.
Elekid
Nature : Jolly
Item : Expert Belt / Life Orb / Choice Scarf
Evs : 252 Speed 180 Attack 76 Special Attack
Thunderbolt
Cross Chop
Fire Punch
Signal Beam
For Electric types I had two choices, Elekid or Pichu. Though I enjoy using Pikachu, Pichu didn't seem right despite access to Volt Tackle. Thunderbolt cuts straight through the water types available. Cross Chop was a high power option for taking out the normals which have a high chance of being on any team. Fire Punch is for Budew,Smoochum, Riolu while Signal Beam seemed to be my only option for hitting Psychic types. He still hasn't been bred yet.
The item is a bit of dilema either of the first two give me extra damage while the thrid makes me the fastest pokemon available.
Cleffa
Nature : Rash
Item : Left Overs
Evs : 252 HP 180 Defense 76 Special Defense
Thunder Wave
Aromatherpy
Protect
SoftBoiled
Cleffa is a nice little baby. It doesn't hit anything and likes to share its healing powers and spread around happiness with thunderwave. Protect scouts for moves and gets me a little recovery while SoftBoiled lets me heal instantly if the predicted attack isn't threatening.
Wynaut
Nature : Lonely
Item : Left Overs
Evs : 252 HP 180 Defense 76 Special Defense
Destiny Bond / Tickle
Counter
Mirror Coat
Encore
Notice this set is exactly the same one most Wobbfett use, well the shallow move pool may be the reason. But mini-fett is what I predict will be the most broken baby in our established meta. Functioning exactly the same as Wobbfett with less bulk, but that bulk isn't needed when there isn't the same hitting power. I'll normally encore them into a move then procede with Counter/Mirror Coat. Destiny Bond/Tickle is a hard choice though.
Budew
Nature : Timid
Item : Choice Scarf / Choice Spec
Evs : 252 Speed 252 Special Attack 4 Hp
Leaf Storm
Shadow Ball
Extrasensory
Sleep Powder / Toxic / Hidden Power Fighting
Mini-Roserade is what this is but the dilema here was the item. Choice Scarf lets me outrun even Elekid but Choice Specs lets me hit hard. Budew has a fairly shallow movepool consisting of mainly grass moves and moves not suiting a choice set. Leaf Storm suits the hit and run stratedgy, shadow ball hits Psychics and Extrasensory the few fighting types. The final moveslot could let me spread Poision, sleep something that isn't a status absorber or just hit those normal types hard. Though I feel I cover the normal types enough already.
Riolu
Nature : Adamant
Item : Expert Belt
Evs : 252 Speed 252 Attack 4 HP
Brick Break
Crunch
Swords Dance
Earthquake / Blaze Kick / Quick Attack
So you were expecting mini-Lucario. You're half right. Did you know Riolu doesn't have access to extremespeed. The plan is to launch a swords dance or two up and continue to use Brick Break and Crunch to cover most of the pokemon available while using my thrid moveslot to either launch a Super effective hit against the Electrics, Grass or Ice types. Quick Attack is my major prioity option when I lack Extremespeed.
So there you so my Baby-Meta team. Please suggest what you can.
