Hello!
I've been playing on pokemon showdown for like 2-3 years. My peak was actually just around when I started out, where I somehow got to around 1600 rating. Nowadays I'm usually somewhere between 1100 and 1300. Guess I just put together a really good team on accident back then! This is the team I've been playing on the last few weeks, and I feel it's time to make an RMT to see if I can step up my team building. I've tried out a few teams I didn't construct myself, but I just don't think it's as fun as making your own! :)
Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Roost
Pretty much my favorite set of my favorite pokemon. I've never really played a team alot that didn't have this set. For me I use this guy more as a sweeper than a pure revenge killer. I really like that he threatens sooo many pokemon after they have taken a bit of damage. My main win condition is to wear down the opposing team and then sweep them up with this dude.
Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Another one of my favorites. Mega-Manectric feels to me like a really nice all-round pokemon. Sure, his speed is his main trademark but he's actually quite bulky and can even sometimes survive earthquakes after intimidate. Good to check birds and to threaten water types.
Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Swords Dance
- Spore
Manectric and Talon are both really week to ground and water/ground types so I picked up Breloom to make sure to have an answer for those dudes. Also does good vs Tyranitar which is a major check to Talon. I originally had this guy toxic orb/substitute, but I figured this set makes more sense for such an offensive team. This set also makes Heatran less threatening, which is important since it's strong against all of my first three pokemon.
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Psyshock
If you wanna run Talon you need to have hazard removal. I choose Starmie over Excadrill to get some ice and water coverage. I'm not sure this is the right thing to do though, since Excadrill is really good at dealing with Rotom-W, which is sort of a hazzle to deal with. Breloom dealed with it alright when I was playing the toxic orb set, but I'm not entirely sure how good he does vs Rotom-W with the technician set. I'd have to do some more play testing.
I really like Starmie though. Analytic is really nice and plays well with this teams philosophy. Hydropump does pretty damn good damage even if the opponent switch into something that resists it, making it easier for Talon to clean up later.
Covers for Manectric and Talon since she's good vs ground types.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Pursuit
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
At this point I felt I was weak to bulky psychics, so I wanted a pursuit trapper. I'm also weak to fairy, so Bisharp seemed like a reasonable choice. Suckerpunch makes it hard for people to knock him out with focus punch, and even if he doesn't kill he can set it up for Manectric or Talon to take the K.O. Went for an AV set to give him some more survivability and making it easier to switch him in.
Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
This was mostly a filler, but I figured I wanted Stealth Rock and Earthquake. Having U-turn plays really nice with this team and comboing intimidate with Manectric is really neat. This dude can really take a punch which makes him a nice pivot. Maybe I should switch this dude to some Garchomp variant to get some offensive coverage vs dragon types.
__Threats__
Dragon types: I guess having dragon types as a major threat is a pretty bad thing in and of itself haha. Using Lando to weaken them and tank damage is pretty useful and I think Stone Edge and Earthquake actually has pretty good coverage versus dragon threats. Intimidate is also really useful versus physical attacking dragons. Since I don't have any fairy type attacks, dragons that resist ice are super annoying to this team. Which bring me to:
Kyurem-B: He has coverage to beat like my entire team, and the only things I have that's super effective vs him are earthquake and mach punch. Both Lando and Breloom hates switching into him though, so often he can just net a free kill.
M-Altaria: I can never kill this maddafakka.
Mega-Sableye: This dude is a real annoyance. I'm not sure I have anything that can do more than 50% damage on him, which means he can basically stall me out forever with recover.
I'm sure there are plenty of more threats, but to be honest I can't really think about any more specific threats right now. I'll update if I come to think of any.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks!
