Mantine is a niche pick on rain teams as a sweeper and occasional revenge killer thanks to its powerful STAB combination and Swift Swim. It sets itself apart from other rain sweepers with its ability to beat notable rain counters such as Seismitoad and Ferrothorn and overall bulkiness. Its incredibly high Speed under rain allows it to outrun the entire unboosted metagame and, with a Timid nature, some Choice Scarf users like Terrakion. However, Mantine is reliant on rain to effectively do its role and lacks the raw power to break through defensive Pokemon such as Toxapex. Surf boosted by Mystic Water and rain makes for a reliable neutral move and OHKOes Excadrill and Rotom-H. Hurricane allows Mantine to beat Seismitoad and Ferrothorn. Substitute is used to avoid status from Seismitoad and Mandibuzz, as well as to protect Mantine from revenge killers. Modest is generally run to patch up its mediocre Special Attack, but Timid can be used to outspeed Choice Scarf Terrakion, which easily revenge kills Mantine with Stone Edge, under rain.

Pelipper is mandatory on rain teams, providing weather support and free switches via slow U-turn. Dracovish has great offensive synergy with Mantine, which handles Seismitoad and faster threats well, while it can open up sweeping opportunities to Mantine thanks to its overwhelming damage. Other Pokemon that take advantage of rain such as Swift Swim Seismitoad and Drednaw can also sweep after defensive threats such as Ferrothorn have been KOed or heavily damaged; the former can also come in easily on Electric-type attacks. Ferrothorn is a staple wall on rain teams thanks to its great defensive typing synergy and entry hazard support.

Although Mantine is significantly weaker without a Modest nature, a Timid nature can prove to be useful because of Choice Scarf Terrakion.

While having mediocre stats on paper, Mantine has become a staple pick on rain teams as a reliable wallbreaker thanks to its powerful STAB combination along with its great natural bulk, reliable recovery, and solid defensive typing that allow it to beat most defensive Pokemon one-on-one with Metronome-boosted attacks, most notably Seismitoad and Toxapex. Swift Swim also allows it to double as an occasional revenge killer and late-game cleaner, outspeeding the entire unboosted metagame and some Choice Scarf users like Darmanitan Terrakion. Choice Scarf Darmanitan isn't a good example because it's practically useless against rain teams anyways. However, Mantine is reliant on rain to effectively do its role; Metronome's stacking bonus is also reset by Protect, so Mantine can effectively be stalled out of PP and rain turns by Clefable and Vaporeon. The correlation between being reliant on rain and being stalled out of rain turns isn't very apparent by the way you're phrasing this. Surf and Hurricane reliably build up power under rain with perfect accuracy, enabling Mantine to break through the likes of Corviknight, Toxapex, and Seismitoad. Substitute is used to avoid status from Seismitoad, Toxapex, and Mandibuzz, as well as to protect Mantine from revenge killers, while Roost keeps Mantine healthy.

Pelipper is mandatory on rain teams, providing weather support and free switches via slow U-turn. Dracovish forms a powerful wallbreaking duo with Mantine, which handles Seismitoad and faster threats well. Other Pokemon that take advantage of rain such as Swift Swim Seismitoad and Keldeo provide more offense and are better suited to sweeping after defensive threats have been KOed or heavily damaged. Provide more offense??? You literally never build with the main thought being "i need more offense"; this doesn't make sense at all. Ferrothorn is a vanilla wall on rain teams thanks to its great defensive typing synergy with the rest of the team and entry hazard support. Entry hazard control from the likes of Excadrill and Mandibuzz is essential to provide Mantine more opportunities to come in on defensive threats. Having Electric-immune or -resistant Pokemon is essential given you run both Pelipper and Mantine.

The EV spread you were using would still let +2 Excadrill 2HKO Mantine; you need 96 Defense EVs to avoid that. Air Slash shouldn't be slashed with Scald, as Scald can rarely be dropped.

Mantine compresses the roles of being a Water immunity and a Defogger, fitting it well on bulky and defensive teams. It has great special bulk, a good defensive typing, and Roost, so it can check special attackers like Hydreigon and Keldeo and Seismitoad, and some physical attackers like Excadrill and Conkeldurr; moreover, Water Absorb lets it function as a counter to rain and Choice Band Dracovish, and Mantine separates itself from Seismitoad and Gastrodon with Defog. You're not going to be using Mantine for the same reason and Seismitoad and Gastrodon and Defog isn't really the seperating factor. Moreover, this is an incredibly run-on sentence. It also has good matchups against most entry hazard setters like Excadrill, Seismitoad, and Kommo-o. However, it has mediocre physical bulk and a glaring weakness to Electric, so it loses to Terrakion, Zeraora, and Rotom-A, as well as to Thunderbolt variants of Dragapult and Clefairy. Who is running Clefairy in this metagame?? Also I'm pretty sure its mediocre physical bulk isn't the reason Mantine loses to Pokemon like Terrakion, Zeraora, and Rotom-A, which is what you're framing it like. It also faces competition with other potent Defoggers in the tier such as Corviknight and Mandibuzz.

Toxic is a generally good move to click that also scares off switch-ins, although running Haze or dual STAB moves is a good situational alternative. You need to explain why they're also good alternatives. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Mantine to sustainably use Defog throughout the match. The EV spread allows it to avoid the 2HKO on +2 Excadrill's Iron Head and maximizes its capabilities as a special wall. Why didn't you seperate the paragraphs here instead of after talking about the fact that it faces competition from Defoggers? This is very out of place. Ferrothorn has amazing type synergy with Mantine and can cover for physical attackers with a physically defensive set. Offensively oriented teammates that are weak to entry hazards such as Kyurem, Togekiss, and Cloyster appreciate Mantine's Defog support; Volt Switch + U-turn cores also like entry hazard removal to more freely pivot around. Mantine and Cloyster will never fit onto the same team. VoltTurn cores are also far too unspecific and is just filler information. Electric immunity from Excadrill, Zeraora, and even Dugtrio help discourage Electric-type moves aimed at Mantine, especially from Choice item attackers like Dragapult, Gengar, and Rotom-H; Mantine can also potentially allow Excadrill to run Rock Slide over Rapid Spin for even more coverage.

I am really under the impression that you don't really know what defensive Mantine does; the content here is very mediocre and I'd like to see significant improvement next time I look over this.

Sorry, I meant to write Clefable >-<.

I did my best to implement the suggested changes. I hope this is better suited. Please look at it once more, Jordy. Thank you.

Vaporeon's just not relevant enough. A different example like Baneful Bunker Toxapex would make more sense. Surf and Hurricane reliably build up power under rain with perfect accuracy, enabling Mantine to break through the likes of Corviknight, Toxapex, and Seismitoad. Substitute is used to avoid status from Seismitoad, Toxapex, and Mandibuzz, as well as to protect Mantine from revenge killers. It also has good matchups against most entry hazard setters like Excadrill and Kommo-o. It doesn't have that good of a matchup against most entry hazard setters, but it's serviceable. However, it has a glaring weakness to Electric-type attacks from Zeraora and Rotom-A, as well as Thunderbolt variants of Dragapult and Clefable,These aren't very relevant and don't affect Mantine's viability to any significant degree. on top of mediocre physical bulk, leaving it KOed by Terrakion and Obstagoon. Terrakion's quite strong and Mantine's weak to its STAB move; its mediocre physical bulk is not the main reason Mantine is susceptible to Terrakion. Another example like Conkeldurr would make more sense because it falls into the same boat as Obstagoon, Terrakion doesn't. There's no need to mention Terrakion. It also faces competition with other potent Defoggers in the tier such as Corviknight and Mandibuzz. Toxic is a generally good move to click that also scares off switch-ins, although running Haze or dual STAB moves is a good situational alternative. Being a generally good move to click doesn't tell me anything and is filler content. I'd appreciate a couple of examples on what Toxic cripples. Haze prevents Mantine from being completely setup fodder to Substitute + Nasty Plot Hydreigon and Clangorous Soul Kommo-o, while Air Slash provides good neutral coverage and a way to hit Seismitoad and Keldeo. Substitute Hydreigon is dead and crippling Seismitoad with Toxic is much better than using Air Slash against it, so it's not a good example. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Mantine to sustainably use Defog throughout the match. The EV spread allows it to avoid the 2HKO on +2 Excadrill's Iron Head and maximizes its capabilities as a special wall.

Ferrothorn has amazing type synergy with Mantine and can cover for physical attackers with a physically defensive set. "physical attackers" is far too general. Offensively oriented teammates that are weak to entry hazards such as Kyurem, Togekiss, and Darmanitan appreciate Mantine's Defog support. Darmanitan's only run on sun teams, Mantine is not. Electric immunity from Excadrill, Zeraora, and even Dugtrio help discourage Electric-type moves aimed at Mantine. It can also potentially allow Excadrill to run Rock Slide over Rapid Spin for even more coverage. It really doesn't. Fitting Mantine onto a sand team is really hard and Mold Breaker Excadrill doesn't need to run Rock Slide anyways. Mantine is also heavily crippled by Knock Off and status, so Clefable and Conkeldurr are also good partners. Everything is crippled by Knock Off, including these two Pokemon. There's no need to mention Knock Off absorbers specifically because they don't exist. If you'd like, you could make a casual mention in the above paragraph about how Mantine is quite susceptible to Knock Off because of its reliance on its item.

1/2.

Let me just say that given the recent metronome discovery this analysis is mostly outdated and will more than likely be removed within the near future, i'm going to ask you in advance to remove all metronome mentions from this analysis. At the moment we're going to ask you to replace them all with the Mystic Water (which is subject to change, we're still trying to figure out what to do w/ mantine atm) for the meantime. We'd also like you to remove the defensive set altogether since its niche doesn't exist in the post-dugtrio meta.

Mantine has become a staple pick on rain teams yeah this can definitely be changed now that the metronome changes are in effect, probably worth mentioning that it's a niche sweeper or something like that as a reliable wallbreaker thanks to its powerful STAB combination along with its great natural bulk, reliable recovery, and solid defensive typing that allow it to beat most defensive Pokemon one-on-one, most notably Seismitoad and Toxapex. Since we're not running metro anymore, it doesn't really beat pex anymore, perhaps mention something like ferrothorn instead?

Swift Swim also allows it to double as a late-game cleaner and an occasional revenge killer, outspeeding the entire unboosted metagame and, with a Timid nature, some Choice Scarf users like Terrakion. However, Mantine is reliant on rain and Metronome to effectively do its role, so it can effectively be stalled out of PP and rain turns by Protect Clefable and Baneful Bunker Toxapex that can also reset Metronome stacks. Ferrothorn is a vanilla wall what is this supposed to mean on rain teams thanks to its great defensive typing synergy and entry hazard support. Entry hazard control from the likes of Excadrill and Mandibuzz neither are particularly run on rain anymore and most rain are foregoing atm, it's probably worth dropping this mention altogether? is essential to provide Mantine more opportunities to come in on defensive threats.
