May the Sun ever work in our favor! An OU Sun Team

Hey Smogon,

So i have been playing competatively on and off but never took it too seriously. I have played many different teams in the past including my favorite sandstorm team as well as rain teams. The only one i haven't tried yet is sun which i am presenting to you today my draft so i can get some feedback which will hopefully help me out.

General Team Info :

When i started building said team i was working towards an aggressive team while preserving some kind of protection through a couple of pokemon. Now some may argue that this makes it a balanced team but i still think that this is actually an aggressive one. I tried to take a few elements from my sandstorm team including support pokemon and through testing i have found out that they are responding well.

Enough small talk, on to the actual team :

As i mentioned i have no previous experience with sun teams at all, so im expecting allll the negative comments >.>

Analysis :

charizard-mega-y.png

Charizard-Mega-Y (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SpA
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Dragon Pulse
- Roost

Chari here received all the blessings with his new mega evolution and also created another ray of hope for sun teams. With Drought this automatically makes him a beast considering his enormous spA stat. Some people choose solar power over drought but that means you need to add another sun bringer like ninetails for the team to function. The EV spread is self explanatory i believe as well as the nature.
I opted to run roost instead of focus blast as i added it to another pokemon in my team.

Venusaur (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Chlorophyll
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 SDef
Calm Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis
- Leech Seed

Alright Ven is here mostly due to his chlorophyll ability and to serve as a special wall. I get to dodge those pesky toxic's and most of the time force the opponent to switch into another pokemon in order to inflict considerate damage to it. The EV's can probably be worked on since im still testing them but it can usually tank most of the spA hits considering it doesnt get hit by a solar powered fire blast from char-y.

As for the move-set i believe it is pretty much standard for her this meta.

Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Taunt
- Roost
- Foul Play

Ah Mandibuzz is the physical counterpart of Ven. I found that he is an excellent wall (i had my doubts) and he is a perfect handler of talonflame. With foul play it an counter a considerable amount of pokemon along with those annoying aeglislashe's. Taunt can lock annoying and obvious hazard setters and cause a switch.

Defog and Roost are pretty standard. Ev's maximize its tanky ability and 4 just to give the foul play a small boost. Altough it is a physical tank it can also tank some spA whenever possible.

heliolisk.png

Heliolisk @ Choice Specs
Ability: Solar Power
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch

Heliolisk is an incredible pokemon imo. His spA and Spd make him an excellent attacker and solar power along with choice specs make him a beast. His primary purpose is to be a dragon slayer and to get rid of those pesky rotoms-w.

I chose to go with the specs because the boost it gives cannot be neglected and it is needed if you want to OHKO specific threats. HP ice gets rid of gliscor's and most of the dragons in one hit. Focus blast takes care of threats such as excadrill and volt switch is self explanatory.

The EV's maximize its spA and Spd.

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake

Dragonite serves as the physical attacker of the team. I have found that i can predict most of the moves required to trigger weakness policy and once that happens he can start sweeping entire teams on his own.
Multiscale is incredible allowing weakness policy to work its magic when needed. As for synergy he works well with mandibuzz and ven due to being bait in order for the opponent to go for an ice move and dragonite pops in and takes it.
Ev's are pretty standard.

Landorus @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Force
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 spA / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Rock Polish
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Psychic

Okay now i know this will probably be suggested to go. It got chosen by accident but im getting to like it for some reason, i guess its just people to dont expect to see a special Landorus and i must say it got alot of people off guard.
He serves as a second spA along with Heliolisk and with a rock polish setup he can start sweeping alot of major threats. Ev's maximize its ability to sweep.
As for the move set, rock polish sets him up and earth power is a powerful stab. HP Ice same reason why i run it on heliolisk and psychic is there to hit when not expected.
I put a life orb on him just to make OHKO more often.
--------------

Well thats it. Please take it easy on me and im open to all suggestions and testing ideas.

Thanks for giving your input! :)
