XY OU Maybe a balanced team

Intro:
Hi smogon people, i'm kind of new to competitve pokemon battling, i started to play at the end of gen 5 and since that i am trying to learn more about different metagames and team building. I play very casually and i am stunned before this team because i was able to go up on the PS ladder, for the firt time i reached 1350 points (i know its nothing imprecive).

I wanted to use moxie gyarados because i got a HA magicarp early on my Alpha Saphire gameplay and it was my mvp for the hole game, the team was supposed to make gyarados sweeps easyer but it turned in to just a reallatively balancet team...
130.png

at this point i needed something for rotom-w and talonflame 2 things that can stop my sweep imediatly, i chose mega venussaur and scarf excadrill as my new partners...

i was still in need of assistance with talonflames and excadrill is not the best dragon switch in but it covers fairys weakness preety well, since than i wanted i fairy type that could set up rocks and clefable came to mind...

When i went to smogons strategy dex the SR clefable set was a mixed tank and seeing a huge disavantage to set up pokes i decided for umbreon as my special wall and responce to some of the set up pokes...

looking at the team anyone can tell that i dont have a special hard hitther neither a direct responce to scizor, for those reasons i added chandelure to the mix.

Team Description:
250px-130Gyarados.png

Abyssal Fury (Gyarados) (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Earthquake

He is the main sweeper of the team, with moxie usualy i only need one dd before cleaning the opposing team, the moves are there to cover anything that is not flying and ditto since even at +3 waterfall from dittos only 3 hit ko and since most of than have scarfs you can just bounce and ko something next turn. If the opposing team dont seen to make its sweep viable it can still do some work breaking subs and being just a hard hitter. The spred maximizes speed and gives it the nature bosst because moxie makes your atack skyrocket, this way there is no need for adamant. The lum over the life orb gives a more secure set up and because, again, of moxie i fell no need to run the atack boosting iten.

Adeniun (Venusaur) (M) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Leech Seed

Just the standad physicall wall. His main role is to sponge hits from serperior, rotom-w and landorus-t as well as counter azumarril specialy belly drum set. his leech seed is the main way to wear down chansey outside of gyarados and excadrill. he usually takes down fairys that despite my team not beeing weak to do give me a little trouble because they are usualy special based and my special wall is a dark type. The 16 evs on speed are there for venussaur be faster than adamant azumarril and the rest makes him as bulky as possible in the physical side.

BFkcSfF.png

Sgretolarsi (Excadrill) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 220 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

The one that create land slides and buries any bird that oppose him... exept zapdos. this poke is my response to some of the hugest threats of the OU meta, even tho its not a direct counter. This poke is my best response to volcarona (its not that difficult to predict whent it will come in since the rest of the team is set up bait for it) and bird spam, it helps me scout for the lati twins set and hit the eletric types that gyarados fear for supper efective hits. The evs let you outspeed max speed base 150s and gives max offencive power, not much to talk about.

Titania (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Moonblast
- Fire Blast
- Moonlight

My lead in general, it set up the rocks hits hard usuall leads like skarmory and even ferrothorn because of the fire blast. Outside of venussaur its my best answer to tyranitar, and rotom-w because it sponge hits and status pretty well. Some times it just do some damage to bisharp and dies because venussaur gets 3 hit koed and excadrill takes up to 60% from sucker punch. It is also my status sponge since as you guys will see in a moment i dont have heal bell on my umbreon. This ev spred just make it as tanky as possible.
NOTE: i have moonlight over softboil because i have no access to 3th en and i dont want to use things on the simulator that i dont have access in my acctual game.

Umbra Bright (Umbreon) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Foul Play
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect

Its my special wall, shocking i know. He complete my defencive core with venussaur and is used to keep clefable healthy and negate SR damage for the next team member (i will explain later). foul play is there to keep physical pokes in check sinse he has decent defencive stats it can probably take a +1 non supper efective hit from anything and deal substancial damage back, i used to have heal bell but i needed to change because of one of the hugest threats to my team, mega metagross. Umbreon can also tocxic magic bounce users in a pinch with its synchronize, but its only if there is no other opption because he is a very important poke on the team because is the only one who can relaiably force slowbro, mega or not, to switch. The evs are just the standard special wall set.

images

Luring FLame (Chandelure) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 16 HP / 252 SpA / 240 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Flamethrower

Another scarfer? yes and for a good reason. As mentioned before mega metagross is a threat to this team and because of its bulk just excadrills earthquakes are not enouth to take it out from full hp, and since they usually cary eather hammer arm or earthquake for coverege umbreon is not a answer, the best way to handle it is outpeeding with this pokemon. This is the main special atacker of the team and my check for scizor, mega pinsir and the lati twins. This team have only one resistence to normal and with even tho normal spam is not commom is good to have an option to deal with it, as well as a answer to fire that my team doesnt take that well since any my walls and tank resists it. The evs makes it hit as hard as possible and outpeed +speed nature base 125 pokemon(wevile), the rest is put in to hp because gives a little bit more bulk... kind of, it does give an odd hp umber this way its possible to switch chandy on rocks 4 times. Dual stab and grass coverege is the standard way to run it but the last move slot is a mess, trick and over heat are options but i want my scarf because of metagross and overheat gives an opportunity too good for the opponent for me, i prefer the reliable option if i dont want to miss.

Abyssal Fury: i'm sick of names like leviathan and poseidon, even tho they fit i just wanted something different.

Adenium: name of a poisonous plant whose flowers kind of resenble venussaurs back.

Sgretolarse: its molder in italian (not my mother language) it basicly tells a little lore of the pokemon who is able to mold and shape the ground with its atacks.

Titania: the queen of the fayris, not a fayri tail character, and kind of a joke with its weakness.

Umbra Bright: this is a poetic one, umbra is the dark side of the moon, this pokemon is like the bright of that location there but never seen... not really but it sounds cool.

Luring Flame: have u ever heard of something called pokedex ?

Main Threats:
images
655.png

Talonflame and bisharp are threats because of their strong priority moves. Bisharp at +2 can sweep the team, 2 shot the defencive core with iron head and 1shot the rest of the team. banded talonflame and life orb bisharp can 2hit ko/1shot the whole team (with just the life orb boost on bisarp, venusaur takes 3 hits the rest takes 2 hits exept chandelure).
376.png

The regular metagross is not that big of a deal but it is still a threat because i usualy cant 1shot it with excadrill or chandelure and the hamer arm deals heavy damage to umbreon. The mega version is the real problem, it can 2 hit ko or even one shot most of the team: zen headbutt 2 shot gyarados and venussaur, meteor mash has around 70% of chance to 1shot clefable and does 37%~44%(jolly) 40%~48%(adamant) to umbreon, earthquake 1shot excadrill and chandelure, hamer arm even tho not that common 1shot excadrill and does 55%~65%(jolly) 60%~71%(adamant) to umbreon.

Hey man, I really like how your team utilises MoxieDos which in the current meta is very underused in favour of MegaDos and his new toy crunch. Anyway onto the rate, I have a lot to say.

Gyarados:

Change EV spread to 8 HP / 252 Atk / 248 Spe or 56 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 196 Spe (both Jolly)

The choice between these two spreads are a matter of personal preference. The first spread allows you to outspeed positive base 145s (Mega Beedrill and Mega Sceptile) after a dragon dance while the second one gives you more bulk while still outspeeding positive base 135s after a dragon dance such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Manectric.

Also replace Earthquake with Substitute, Taunt or Stone Edge

When it comes down to it Earthquake doesn't hit anything Waterfall doesn't. Instead replace it with either Substitute or Taunt for easier setup opportunities and utility outside of sweeping or extra coverage in the form or Stone Edge. IMO sub is the best option here allowing you to dodge status and have easier setup opportunities. If you choose Sub (or taunt although taunt needs you to expect the status) you no longer need Lum Berry to stop status so you can replace it with something like leftovers.

Mega Venusaur:

Pretty standard, nothing really to change here though you should consider running Sleep Powder over Leech Seed if you want to cripple some of the more common switch ins to Venusaur.

Replace Chanderlure with Heatran:

Heatran is far superior to Chanderlure in this scenario completing the infamous VenuTran core and providing excellent support defensively instead of Chanderlure's frailty. I recommend a specially defensive set to go with Venusaur's physically defensive set like this:

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Toxic/Earth Power/Taunt
- Protect (with toxic)/Taunt/Earth Power

This set is the most used Heatran set (Heatran is the 3rd most used pokemon in OU) for a reason. It uses Heatran's excellent typing to check a wide variety of threats while supporting the team it is on excellently, absorbing hits and crippling dangers to your team. Heatran has asserted himself as the best defensive fire type and arguably the best supporting steel (Ferrothorn just started coughing) in OU.

Heatran is also a bird check which means you can replace Excadrill with Latias or Latios.

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock/Hidden Power Fire/Thunderbolt
- Healing Wish

OR

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost/Memento/Earthquake/Hidden Power Fire
- Defog

The Lati twins are the premier hazard removers of OU. They have offensive presence and a ton of coverage while being bulky enough to tank hits with their key resistances. They also synergise excellently with the rest of your team completing a Dragon, Fairy, Steel core with Heatran and Clefable while complementing the other members nicely. Latias is the bulkier of the two and has a nice support option in Healing Wish which kills Latias and fully heals the next pokemon that comes in. Latios is the more offensive one who hits harder and often has more coverage including Earthquake to lure the number one Lati counter: Heatran. Latios can also have memento which is basically the same as Healing Wish but instead of fully healing the next pokemon that comes in, it reduces the opposing pokemon's attack and special attack giving your setup sweeper (in this case Gyarados) a free setup.

Another thing Heatran has done is relieved the burden on Clefable to set up rocks. Now Clefable can use her excellent Calm Mind set:

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Flamethrower

CM Clefable is an excellent addition to any team simply because of how versatile it is. It can act as a wincon, a status absorber, a check to many pokemon, a wallbreaker, a lure (sort of) and many other roles. It is very self sufficient, requiring very little support to do any of those roles while in turn supporting the team as a whole.

Finally replace Umbreon with...

Umbreon isn't needed anymore with Heatran and Lati@s bolstering the defensive side of your team. I have many ideas to replace Umbreon and I can't pick one so here are some options.

Raikou

A great partner for Gyarados, having perfect synergy with him and being an a excellent fast pivot, Raikou could really benefit this team.

Scarf Keldeo

Scarf Keldeo is an excellent scarfer who makes up for the loss of your two previous scarfers while providing extra anti-Ferrothorn and Landorus-T insurance.

Scarf Lando-T

I know he's standard and boring but honestly how could I not suggest him? He's OU's most used poke for a reason. Equipped with a Scarf Landorus is as solid as ever pivoting in and out, checking deadly threats, destroying things with his newfound speed and great power and providing excellent utility with Knock Off, an extremely useful move this team lacks and of course the ever useful U-Turn.

Anyway that's all I've got right now, hopefully the next person who comes along to this RMT has some better Umbreon replacement ideas. I hope I helped with your team and I wish you success with this team in the future.
