Hi all, i’m the dishonest veil player you may have seen on ladder, or on LusterSNs latest video
If you had told me i was gonna be a top 100 player say, 3 weeks ago, i would’ve thought you were making fun of me, said thanks out of politeness and tilted to the 1400s grinding
Yet, after a few well timed snipes, extreme self discipline, patience and self control, my peak stands, with my team, at no.97, 1870 elo.
Proof of peak, battle that let me reach 1870 is last replay below
I know you all came for an rmt, but i feel that it is necessary to set an exposition for this team, as the team wasn’t shaped through careful thought and theorycrafting, rather 7000 games of experience.
Back when roaring, hearthflame, volca, gouging, and archa were still unbanned, i took my first foray into gen 9 ou, and built a team with veil centered around having fast, frail attackers, with moon as the star of the show. I did decent, but never climbed out of i think 1300s.
i then took a break for reasons unknown, and returned to find a bunch of my favourite mons banned, and maushold apparently a shitmon? I complained in OU room, and i remember one of the mockeries being
‘ilytrix when they can’t click one button and win’
that’s what set the stage for this team i present to you today, a team that’s focused on just pressing whatever, and winning.
I’ll also post about my mental journey to 1800 in the comments if you’re interested

The OG core
50/50 (Raging Bolt) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Thunderbolt
- Thunderclap
rng my ahh (Kyurem) @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Scale Shot
- Tera Blast
- Dragon Dance
snow bunny (Ninetales-Alola) (F) @ Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Aurora Veil
- Encore
- Moonblast
- Freeze-Dry
these 3 mons have been there since the start, forming the core the rest of the mons joined
Alolan Ninetales is standard issue, although i did invest in SpA to pick up surprise KOs against frail mons like offensive lead hamu, tusk, and the like.
Tera water allows it to flip endgame matchups in an emergency, and the extra SpA makes ninetales no slouch in endgame trades, especially with bonus bulk from veil and snow as well as surprisingly great super effective coverage
Kyurem was a special attacker at the start, but after adding latias, i had little in the way of physical damage, so i decided to make the jump to Physical kyurem. Tera fire allows kyurem to flip the steel matchup, and allows me to actually get out of iron valiant encore behind veil. +1 tera fire blast gets rid of all Steels except heatran with ease, and not much wants to try and 1v1 it after a dragon dance. Remember to scale shot and not icicle spear ogerpon in case of tera.
Raging bolt is here to deal massive neutral damage because dragon+electric stab is unresisted by the whole OU tier, while having disgusting bulk behind veil, especially in the special side after a calm mind. This spread also allows me to easily 1v1 lando and tusk behind veil, and then get a painful boosted thunderclap on whatever they switch in later. Standard tera fairy to flip the MU against other dragons, and lose a bunch of weaknesses.
The Backup
bury the light (Ceruledge) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Weak Armor
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bitter Blade
- Shadow Sneak
- Swords Dance
- Poltergeist
Iron Moth @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 132 SpA / 124 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fiery Dance
- Sludge Wave
- Energy Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
These 2 mons are here for speed control and for beating up a bunch of opposing mons before dying, as well as taking advantage of veil bulk to surprise a bunch of would be counters.
Focus sash ceruledge is a great lead against Atales anti leads, and weak armor allows it to setup and sweep if the opponents aren’t careful, and shadow sneak allows for easy revenge killing. Tera fighting flips the gambit matchup on its head, and this little SpD allows ceruledge to 1v1 darkrai behind screens
Iron moth is here to fix the abysmal matchup into fairy, having a quad fairy resist and having a super effective STAB into fairy. Tera grass and energy ball hits garganacl who i have a personal vendetta against, and also flips the woger matchup around, while the other 3 moves are standard issue coverage.
The sweeper
Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Agility
- Stored Power
- Aura Sphere
After getting my ass handed to me by a Latias on ladder, i figured this would be a great addition to the team. Standard Issue set, +SpA over +Spe because nothing much to worry about outrunning after firing off an agility. Stored power takes care of ival at even +2 agility, and +1 aura sphere handles almost all dark types in one shot
Bad Matchups
The Steels (Gholdengo, kingambit, scizor)
Iron moth and ceruledge should be able to deal with these or at least chip them decently, and leave them for the other to revenge kill. Scizor is the scariest of all as it prevents veil from going up, so you will need to play the matchup very carefully.
The fairies (enamorus, iron valiant, Hatterene)
Iron moth should make light work of all of them, but in a pinch, that’s what bulky bolt and focus sash ceruledge are for.
The rocks (Cornerpon, Ttar, Stedge zama and boulder)
Ceru can deal with all of them pretty well and leave them heavily damaged to be revenged, but the best tool to deal with them is raging bolt.
Lokix
It’s a near auto loss mu, as most of my mons are setup dependent, and without veil i have little to stop a wishpass lokix sweep. Still winnable but very very tricky.
Garganacl
It’s separate from the other rocks as i have a personal hate for it specifically and the way it threatens my team is different. It stops my mons setup by inflicting salt cure, and scares latias away from tera steel. Your best bet to deal with it is bolt, but if you’re willing to commit tera, have boosts or you have veil up, moth and latias can also beat it
Cinderace
Screens Public enemy number one. You’re basically gonna have to play a 5v6 until it’s gone, but ceruledge leading into it can wreak havoc on those unsuspecting.
Ceruledge
It runs over most of my team except bolt and kyurem, so i suggest keeping either in the back until it shows itself
Scale Shot users
I don’t have much for them except ninetales, and maybe moth, but if they get a dd and scale off, they’re pretty much unstoppable. Great care taken when facing them
Phasers
Attacks directly at the teams need to setup as a weakness, and will need to be planned for off preview
Heatran
Only bolt hits it for decent damage before setup, but ceruledge can leave it extremely low and ready to be revenged, or even leave it as setup fodder for kyu behind screens. If it leads into ninetales, make sure to encore magma storm to make sure you get a free switch in.
I understand that this may not be the greatest team or rmt you’ve seen, so i will be happy to answer questions and listen to feedback in the comments.
Have a good day, and thank you for reading
