Mega Blastoise and Such

This is really my first crack at a team in XY, and I barely played any competitive before this. Just a mix of Pokemon I like and ones I saw as fairly solid teammates for them. Have tested maybe 10 battles with this team or a nearly identical one, and had maybe a couple dozen before that to refine it initially.

Blastoise (M) @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Aura Sphere
- Dark Pulse

Secondary spinner for my time in case Excadrill gets knocked out. I really like the type coverage he has and use him normally as something solid I can switch in mid game. In my battles so far has actually ended up being my most reliable Pokemon. Is a really reliable counter to a lot of the weaknesses the rest of my team has in my experience. Will almost never lead with because he is too valuable for me to lose early on.

Excadrill (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Shadow Claw

Primary spinner and a good physical attacker for me. I like him quite a bit, but many things his moves counter often have something super effective against him. From what I have seen though he almost never gets out sped so it is rarely if ever an issue for me. Will occasionally lead with him since Blastoise will still be in the wings as a spinner if anything goes wrong.

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Incinerate
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Normally a late game special sweeper for me. Unless there is a matchup not satisfied by anyone else I try to keep him in the wings. Sorta just fills a jack of all trades. Flash Cannon covers most of his weakness, incinerate is helpful against mega venusaur, hidden power ice is for late game dragons hanging around, and thunderbolt is his main move.

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Dragon Claw
- Aqua Tail
- Roost

Sorta a tanky mid game revenge killer. Typically his first appearance will be off of my 2nd pokemon knocked out depending on the enemies health. Dragon claw rarely is used until late game as people typically avoid keeping anything it is viable against in against him. Aqua tail is to counter mega charizard, among others as he often gets stuck fighting one.

Bisharp (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Brick Break

Normally the lead off pokemon for my team. Will either swords dance of knock off as his first most. Brick break is to handle a few threats I have encountered with him fairly frequently. Outside of my lead he rarely makes a return appearance after the battle picks up unless he has a good match up. It is pretty problematic for me because often opponents initial pokemon cant counter him or withstand a knock off but later on in matches counters for him are too frequent.

Talonflame @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- U-turn

A bit of a bulky sweeper who can retreat. Normally is the other main revenge killer on the team besides dragonite. I can usually pull one or two kills out with him without too much of an issue. Brave bird and flare blitz are his main moves, roost keeps him relevant later in the game once any true counters the other person has are eliminted, and uturn helps to keep him alive long enough to get to that point.

This is my first time posting on here and i think I hit everything it said to, let me know if there is any more information needed.

While each individual pokemon is solid your team is full of sweepers and while that is not bad, having 4-5 sweepers and 1-2 support pokemon is generally the norm and it functions better in my experience. While I'm not to great on suggesting replacement team mates, I would probably try things like Most of the Eeveelutions, Sylveon especially, Chansey/Blissey Florges. They will make it easier to keep statuses off and keep mons @ full HP. If you were to replace a pokemon definitely switch out one of your physical sweepers since you have 4. Also consider running U-turn on thundurus to easier get in some sweepers and save its HP. Sorry I can't be more specific about your team though.

I honestly dont know for sure which one I would get rid of. I would say probably talonflame and bisharp would be the ones on the chopping block for me, but i am not really sure which one. I would really like umbreon to fit in, but I am not really familiar with how to use him or good builds.

General list of changes I am considering right now:

Drop Talonflame

Thundurous: Swap hidden power ice for uturn, increase attack ivs back up to 31.

dragonite: swap flamerthrower for aqua jet

Blastoise: Swap rapid spin for ice beam

Bisharp: potentially swapping out brick break, though not sure for what yet, maybe the priority dark moves thats name escapes me.

Going to try and look into umbreon now, may go with sylveon if I dont see a good set up for it.

Umbreon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Def
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Baton Pass
- Foul Play

Umbreon: Wish+Baton Pass to heal others/self along with leftovers, Foul Play as damaging move so he doesnt have to sacrifice any of his own stats for offense if trapped in. Protect as a way to nearly guarantee that he gets the wish. Dont have too much else to say as i havent tested him yet. hopefully serves as a decent wall for the team, ill be testing it out and will come back after to say how it went, but feel free to comment in the meantime.

as i said in the last post this would be in place of the talonflame and all of the changes above were done, with bisharp having brick break switched for stone edge on a trial basis.

There is nothing wrong with a hyper offensive team but I agree on the terms that he should balance how many Physical/Special Attackers there are on the team.
Aqua tail is to counter mega charizard
I don't think so.
252+ Atk Dragonite Aqua Tail vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard X: 102-120 (34.2 - 40.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Dragonite Aqua Tail vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y in Sun: 136-160 (45.6 - 53.6%) -- 40.2% chance to 2HKO
You mind as well just use Dragon Claw...
252+ Atk Dragonite Dragon Claw vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 181-214 (60.7 - 71.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Dragonite Dragon Claw vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard X: 270-318 (90.6 - 106.7%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch/Extreme Speed/Roost

Dragon dance is pretty much self explanatory in what it does. Who doesn't want a Pokemon raising its Attack and Speed? Earthquake is to hit those Steel/Rock types much harder that will be threatening Dragonite when coming in against it. Depending on how much Dragon Dances you get up depends on if you should switch or proceed to attack with Earthquake. Dragon Claw is for the STAB and for the last slot... Fire Punch = Hit those Grass/Steel like Ferrothorn which could becoming annoying when going for T-wave on Dragonite or Skarmory and its whirlwind shenanigans. Extreme Speed is for the +2 priority. Roost is to abuse the Multiscale. All 3 moves are pretty good for a last slot and serve different roles.

Blastoise (M) @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Ice Beam/Rapid Spin
- Water Pulse

- Aura Sphere
- Dark Pulse
Water Pulse. It hits the same damage as Surf combined with the Mega Launcher ability only it has the chance to confuse your opponents as well and also has more PP. As for Rapid Spin, nothing wrong with it but there are times where you may be faced against a Grass/Dragon type Pokemon and then what are you doing? Switching out so they can set up or get damage on your next Pokemon or predict the switch and do heavy damage to them with Ice Beam? I think you would prefer option two more therefore consider swapping between Ice Beam and Rapid Spin.

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

- Brick Break/Sucker Punch
Priority on Bisharp is always nice. It isn't THAT fast as it is and may not get a chance to even attack as well as set up a Swords Dance. Take into account a lot of Conkeldurr and Breloom run around OU with there priority Mach Punch so when using Bisharp you have to be careful and predict.
thundurus.gif

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Nasty Plot

- Hidden Power [Ice]
Go for Prankster over Defaint. There is no reason why you are going to be needing to raising your Attack stat on a Thundurus. You don't need to be worrying about taking out Mega-Venu with Thundurus. You have a Talonflame on your team. Nasty Plot for that +2 Special attack and Focus Blast to hit those Rock types hard. Thunderbolt is for the STAB and HP Ice is fine already to hit the Dragons/Grass types.

If you do make an Umbreon that set seems fine really...just the Baton Pass, swap it with Toxic for the Wish/Protect and Toxic Stall with a Foul Play for those Physical attackers trying to set up on you.

alright thats quite a few changes and im going to experiment with them.

the only ones im a little bit skeptical of dragon dance over extremespeed for dragonite because it is such a realiable move for a guaranteed revenge kill (im considering fire punch mandatory on him without talonflame in the party) and toxic over baton pass on umbreon because of bisharp and thundurus having life orb and no healing method.

Considering as potential change over bisharp, thoughts anyone?

Weavile does NOT need Nasty Plot as it raises its' Special Attack by +2 and all your other moves are physical. Also Ice Shard over Iron Tail as its always nice to have some STAB priority over setting up a Swords Dance which raises Attack by +2. If Life Orb isn't working out for you, try Focus Sash instead. you may feel that Weavile isn't taking any hits to set up and quickly gets taken out most of the time.

You don't need to Baton Pass to pass on Wish if that is what you are wondering? Just switch out?

For some reason i thought that it needed to be baton passed. I have no clue what i was thinking with nasty plot on weaville. The other change to him also sounds good. Would it be an upgrade to use him as a lead over bisharp because he is faster, or is that a stretch?

Weaville: lead off party member, if a good match up knock off to get an easy knock out off the rip, if not pull out for something better suited. Keeping life orb for more reliable knock outs early on. I know if i changed it he could set up better, but with his speed outside of a bad match up he should be able to get e at least 1 kill and still remain a threat later on.

Dragonite: Still physical sweeper, has good range of coverage moves, went with dragon dance because of him not having the punch late game to contend without dragon dance.

Umbreon: Main healer/wall. Wish to heal teammates, foul play to punish physical threats, toxic and protect for slowly killing enemies that can kill him.

Thundurus: Special sweeper, as far as i can tell has a good range of coverage and ability to set up. Should be an easy switch in to handle quite a bit of enemies.

Mega Blastoise: Special threat, good range of moves. Really like that ice beam keeps him in the game longer and other than that there isnt much that can stand up to him normally. Playing around 1250-1350 so far most people dont seem to have any concept of his moveset as he often catches enemies off guard. Main threat to him is typically mega charizard y being able to one shot him with solar beam.

Excadrill: Physical threat and spinner. Really just a great all around team member, does a great job of clearing hazards and can outspeed most enemies matched up against.

Edit: for some reason icicle crash is being rejected for weaville when i try to play, not entirely sure why so i switched to ice punch.

The reason Weavile can't get Icicle Crash is because...
%Darnell: !learn weavile, icicle crash
Weavile can learn Icicle Crash only when obtained from:
  • gen 6 egg
%Darnell: !learn weavile, knock off
Weavile can learn Knock Off only when obtained from:
  • any generation before 6
Clearly that doesn't work out. Since Knock off can't be bred in gen6 as it is a tranfer move. Instead of Ice Punch feel free to replace it with Break Break so you can hit Pokemon like Tyranitar(Rock Types) hard

As for Excadrill, don't know why it has Shadow Claw? Did I say that? If so I apologise and replace it with Swords Dance. I haven't tested out AV Excadrill or seen it but if it doesn't work out replace the item with Air Ballooon/Focus Sash/Lefties. Excadrill special defense are quite low so I can't picture it being that amazing.

Shadow claw actually was something i played around with and im really liking it, ive been getting kos with it pretty frequently because people leave in slower pokemon it can one hit with it in against him that he outspeeds. As for assault vest, it has saved him a couple of times, but frankly those few times he had no business being in there. Probably going to go with leftovers because it would be more useful in most cases.

May I ask what Shadow Ball/Claw has been getting KO's on? Sorry, I can't tell which one you are talking about. You keep switching it up xD

I meant shadow claw, i mistyped it at first. And it really isnt against any consistent enemies, but a lot of random things like espeon that dont it. It is maybe getting a use 1/5 matches right now so it is by no means consistent.

252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Shadow Claw vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Espeon: 238-282 (87.5 - 103.6%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
Earthquake does more.

252 SpA Gengar Focus Blast vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 372-438 (102.7 - 120.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I guess for things like Grass/Ghost types you might need it but honestly it seems like a waste of a moveslot. Even Iron Head would be better.
