Drought

Primary STAB Options:

  • Weather Ball
  • Flamethrower
  • Fire Blast
  • Overheat
  • Air Slash
Primary Coverage Options:
  • Focus Blast
  • Scorching Sands
  • Solar Beam

Notable Utility Options (pending move dump):
  • Dragon Dance (Please Don't)
  • Roar
  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Roost

PROS:
+ Sky-high Special Attack stat with damage output boosted further by high BP moves and Sun
+ Flying-type allows it immunity to Spikes and powerful Earthquakes, while usable special bulk gives it a chance to live powerful neutral hits without investment
+ Coverage options aren't expansive but do allow it to hit would-be stopgaps like (Mega) Tyranitar, Toxapex, and Primarina
+ Has powerful teammates like Venusaur, Ceruledge, and Hisuian Typhlosion to take advantage of Sun as well as multiple hazard control options like Hatterene, Scizor, and Excadrill
+ Can potentially slot in disruption options like Will-O-Wisp or maybe Roar over a coverage move on the right structures, giving it more than just raw damage output

CONS:
- Crippling 4x Stealth Rock weakness demands extensive hazard control options for it to function effectively
- Heavily competes for its role on sun-based offense with threats like Mega Delphox and even its base form (which does not take up a Mega slot)
- Inconsistent Mega Evolution bracket (see below) may lead to awkward lead matchups with Mega Froslass and especially Mega Tyranitar
- 100 Speed is nothing special in this metagame, leaving it highly vulnerable to opposing offense teams or Choice Scarf users
- Lacks a way to hit powerful Dragon-types like Dragonite and bulky Garchomp, and may have to pick-and-choose between coverage options

Prospective Sets:
:charizard-mega-y:
All-Out-Attacker (Charizard) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower / Weather Ball
- Solar Beam
- Scorching Sands / Focus Blast / Roost
- Focus Blast / Overheat / Roost

Most likely the best set is going to be some arrangement of these 8 moves. Flamethrower allows for Mega Charizard Y to maintain a powerful STAB move even if opposing weather manages to go up, while Weather Ball is more powerful and could situationally provide valuable coverage (any gamers hitting Gyarados with Rock Weather Ball on an anticipated switch?)

Solar Beam is mandatory coverage for foes like Primarina, (Mega) Slowbro, and Hippowdon, while Scorching Sands will be highly appreciated to muscle through Toxapex and hit (Mega) Glimmora extremely hard. Focus Blast allows Mega Charizard Y to hit Tyranitar, Garganacl, and Mega Gyarados, but Overheat may also be an option to muscle through even resists in sun, while being mandatory if running Weather Ball else you're walled by Mega Chausnaught. Roost will be another highly viable option over one of these coverage options, letting Mega Charizard Y play more aggressively with its switch-ins and decent special bulk.

2.5 Attacks (Charizard) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Solar Beam / Focus Blast
- Scorching Sands / Roost
- Will-O-Wisp / Roar / Protect / Roost

Alternatively, the 4th coverage move may end up being dropped for one of Will-O-Wisp, Roar, or Protect, but this would be very team dependent. Will-O-Wisp lets Mega Charizard Y neuter prospective switch-ins like non-Lum Tyranitar, Garchomp, and Dragonite, Roar forces hazard damage, and Protect would scout opposing priority moves like Mega Lopunny / Kangaskhan Fake Out.

Teammates:

:venusaur: :ceruledge: :typhlosion-hisui: :arcanine-hisui: Powerful Sun abusers, with Venusaur in particular being appreciated for outspeeding bothersome foes like (Mega) Greninja and Mega Glimmora

:hatterene: :espeon: :corviknight: :scizor: :maushold: Hazard control is a must for Mega Charizard Y. Hatterene and Scizor are particularly synergistic, depending on metagame conditions.

:garchomp: :garganacl: :glimmora: :clefable: Entry hazards of your own are highly appreciated to wear down checks like Toxapex and Tyranitar

Checks:

:toxapex: :gyarados: :feraligatr-mega: Any Water-type that can shrug off a Solar Beam or 2 is going to be annoying for Mega Charizard Y to deal with, and Gyarados and Mega Feraligatr both threaten to get up a Dragon Dance

:tyranitar: :tyranitar-mega: Mega Bracket jank and generally being fat as hell make Tyranitar a check to most sets and an outright counter to any Mega Charizard Y without Focus Blast or Will-O-Wisp

:garchomp: :dragonite: :goodra: Unless you're willing to run the pitifully weak Dragon Pulse, most bulky Dragon-types can somewhat (if not fully, Overheat is STRONG) force Mega Charizard Y out

:lopunny-mega: :delphox-mega: :dragapult: :greninja: :gengar-mega: :choice scarf: 100 is a pretty unfortunate Speed tier for an offensive threat
