So in X and Y OU I used Mega Medicham and Bisharp as an offensive core pretty much exclusively. Then ORAS brought Mega Gallade who, although not quite as powerful as Medicham, sits at a much more desirable speed tier, so I thought I'd give it a try. I've been sat in the low 1400s after hitting 1500 for quite a while now, mostly due to my own mistakes rather than the teams'. I was just wondering if anyone could help me tinker it or had any Poké suggestions to help compensate for my constant misplays. Thanks for reading!
Here's the team:
Caped Crusader (Gallade) (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Drain Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Substitute
- Ice Punch
First is Mega Gallade, someone who's really grew on me. I've decided to go with the Substitute Drain Punch set to a) help with prediction b) prevent revenge kills from Pokés like Talonflame and scarfers in general and c) help with wallbreaking. This is the set I used most on my old MegaCham and is the one I'm most comfortable with, though I would like to try a swords dance set. Zen Headbutt is secondary STAB and helps with MegaSaur who pretty much walls the rest of my team. Bisharp helps eliminate Ghost and Psychic types that Gallade struggles with as I've gone with Ice Punch for annoyances like Landorus and Gliscor. Usually I try to bring him in early to mid game via a Rotom volt switch, set up a sub then hit things as hard as possible. He's also my only 'fast' Poké, and can revenge kill MegaZards and Kyurems at low health, the first being a pretty huge problem for my team.
Red Ranger (Bisharp) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 192 HP / 252 Atk / 64 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Iron Head
Like I said Bisharp really helps my Gallade and is just a good Poké overall. With an Assault Vest Bisharp can trap and kill Lati@s & Gengar more realiably, while also helping with fairies like Clefable and Sylveon if they live an Iron Head. The rest of the set is pretty standard, and the EV spread is to give him maximum bulk and damage output, not sure if I should run speed investment or not?
Socks (Rotom-Wash) @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest
Rotom-Wash is one of the most reliable Pokés around and is a great check to Landorus who, with a scarf, is a real problem for the team. I'm not sure on running Resto-Chesto as I don't seem to be able to get my rest off enough for it to be worth, so set suggstions are welcome. Rotom also really helps with bird spam, something that also troubles me so I'd say he's pretty much the nucleus of my team. The speed EVs are for outspeeding Jolly Azumarill and getting off a Will-o-wisp, which is mostly the first thing I go for.
Zanzibar (Donphan) (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
Donphan is my hazard control and a decently hard hitter. Knock Off is for predicted levitaters or flying types, and Stealth Rock really helps with MegaZard Y. He can also deal with MegaZard X and is a good utility Pokémon overall. Sturdy is really useful when using a move is crucial, and Rapid Spin is my only way of getting rid of entry hazards for Volcarona. As a Poké in general he's kind of outclassed by Excadrill but has better defensive synergy with my team, but is sometimes just overwhelmed in battles.
Bubblegum (Sylveon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
Sylveon helps with Sableye and Conkelldurr who do pretty well against the rest of my team. She can also take on Keldeo and Mega Sceptile who are otherwise able to walk over the team with Substitute sets. Hyper Voice is STAB that hits behind substitutes which is great, whereas the rest of the moves help him fulfill his role as a cleric considering I seem to get Paralyzed all the time, and Donphan just loves being burnt. The EVs are to patch up his mediocre defence since his special defence is solid without investment. I've seen a lot on Specs Sylveon which might be a good idea, but I need some more bulk on the team so I guess this was a good fit.
Kitten (Volcarona) (F) @ Passho Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 124 Spe
Bold Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Giga Drain
- Roost
I needed a strong special attacker and a win condition considering I had not set up or Pokémon that could pretty much sweep teams considering Gallade has Drain Punch not Close Combat. The Passho berry weakens water type moves so I can set up on more Pokémon like Mega Slowbro and Rotom-Wash, and I'm currently juggling between the bulky roost set or the all out offensive set with Bug Buzz or HP Ground considering my team already covers Lati@s and Heatran. Maybe HP Rock to hit MegaZard Y? This is probably the Poké I have the most trouble with because I find it hard to use, and find myself setting up way too early justifying it with the fact it's a bulky spread. Any other special attacker that could help more with coverage would be welcomed, considering this was more thrown onto the team because of its resistances rather than attacks; it resists both fighting and grass, and the birdspam weakness is negated by Rotom. Unfortunately she's really weak to Stealth Rocks and I despise being locked into Stealth Rock battles as I usually get bored and give in.
Thanks for reading if you got this far, and would really appreciate any feedback on sets, synergy or Poké suggestions.
