Introduction

I chose to build my first VGC team around M-Gallade because I find its power underrated (and Gallade has always been one of my favorites). I realized M-Gallade needs Speed support to outspeed faster opponents, and Tailwind seemed like the best option. I looked at the Smogon list of viable Pokemon in VGC, and Zapdos was the highest-rated Tailwind user. The rest of the team was built on supporting M-Gallade and Zapdos.

The Team

gallade.gif

Gallade @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Knock Off
- Protect
The star of the team, M-Gallade's power is underrated. With Tailwind set up and a Jolly nature, M-Gallade will almost always move first. Close Combat is Gallade's hardest hitting STAB move, and Zen Headbutt hits Fighting- and Poison-types for a good amount of damage. I chose to run Knock Off over Ice Punch because Milotic runs Ice Beam.

zapdos.gif

Zapdos @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SpA / 156 Spe
Modest Nature
- Tailwind
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roost
Obviously, Tailwind is the move I chose to revolve this team around. 156 Speed EVs let Zapdos outrun a positive natured Smeargle (although that's not a huge issue). Gallade appreciates Tailwind to ensure he will usually hit first against most opponents. Thunderbolt is Zapdos' most powerful STAB move. I chose to run Heat Wave over Hidden Power Ice to have a spread move. Roost makes Zapdos difficult to knock out, along with holding a Sitrus Berry.

milotic.gif

Milotic @ Maranga Berry
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 236 HP / 140 Def / 132 SpA
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Icy Wind
- Recover
- Protect
Milotic is my favorite bulky Water-type. Holding a Maranga Berry does almost the same job as an Assault Vest while allowing Milotic to use Recover. Competitive is a great ability that scares out popular Intimidate users. Its EV spread allows it to survive Adamant Mega Kangaskhan's Double-Edge. Scald is arguably the best Water-type move, dealing good damage to almost anything with the possibility of a burn. Icy Wind gives my team farthur speed control and Milotic coverage against Grass-types. Recover along with Leftovers makes Milotic difficult to knock out.

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 44 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 204 Spe
Modest Nature
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Flash Canon
- Protect
Heatran gives my team Fairy-type coverage. Its EV spreed allows it to live an EQ from an Adamant Landorus-T. Flamethrower is a STAB move that deals decent damage. I chose to run this over Heat Wave to deal with Aegislash. Earth Power is for other Fire-types that can deal neutral damage to Heatran. I chose to run Flash Canon over Substitute because my team has trouble with Fairy-types such as Sylveon.

amoonguss.gif

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerate
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Rage Powder
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Protect
Amoonguss is another annoying Pokemon to knock out. Regenerate is a great ability, allowing Amoonguss recover a given amount of HP from switching out. Giga Drain provides even more HP coverage, along with being a decent STAB move. Rage Powder can redirect hits, which will help Zapdos set up Tailwind. Spore can serve this purpose as well while putting opponents to sleep, mostly for bulkier and faster ones.

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Stone Edge
- Super Power
Landorus-T is obviously one of the most popular Pokemon in VGC, and for good reason. With its max Speed investment and having Tailwind set up, Landorus-T is almost guaranteed to always move first. Earthquake is obviously a powerful STAB spread move that can be used with Protect. Rock Slide hits both opponents for decent damage and can KO Talonflame. I chose to run Stone Edge over U-Turn because my team has problems against M-Charizard Y. Super Power is a powerful finishing move that deals a good amount of damage to almost any Pokemon.

Conclusion

I'm happy with this team, but I can see more improvements. This team's main problem is Trick Room. But Amoonguss and Milotic, along with more experience as a VGC player, should be able to handle Trick Room teams. Another problem with my team is Aegislash paired with M-Charizard Y, so I have Flamethrower on Heatran and Stone Edge on Landorus-T. Besides that, I believe my team is able to handle common threats.

Good job with the team hexmarie! It looks pretty good with only a few things that COULD be changed. Honestly, I don't like using Leftovers in VGC just because passive recovery isn't good because of how fast the VGC metagame is. Because of this, I suggest using a AV Milotic set instead of a Leftovers Milotic Set. If you are to use this suggestion, here is a set you could use:

Milotic @ Assault Vest
Ability: Competitive
Level: 50
EVs: 148 HP / 172 Def / 132 SpA / 4 SpD / 52 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk OR 30 HP / 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Scald
- Ice Beam / Icy Wind
- Dragon Tail / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Mirror Coat
252+ Atk Parental Bond Mega Kangaskhan Double-Edge vs. 148 HP / 172 Def Milotic: 163-193 (86.2 - 102.1%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO < - - strongest common physical attack in the meta just to illustrate how bulky this spread is.

252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Earthquake vs. 148 HP / 172 Def Milotic: 83-99 (43.9 - 52.3%) -- 15.6% chance to 2HKO

252+ SpA Rotom-H Thunderbolt vs. 148 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Milotic: 84-98 (44.4 - 51.8%) -- 8.6% chance to 2HKO

252+ SpA Mega Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 148 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Milotic: 146-174 (77.2 - 92%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (O.O)

Choice Specs Hydreigon's Dark Pulse and Draco Meteor combined do 99.9% damage with max damage rolls
This set allows you to be a little but more generally bulky with Assualt Vest. Icy Wind can be used over Ice Beam for extra Speed Control. Mirror Coat can be used if you want to be extra cautious against Special Attackers. Overall, I just find this set to be a little bit better than the one you're using currently.

Ehh, noting down that Tect / Recover isn't compatible with Assault Vest. A Maranga Berry is here a good option as it does pretty a similar thing than AV, just that you can actually Recover AND Protect. Leftovers is actually fine on some Pokemon, and Milotic, due to Recover, is one of them.

I like this set a lot better actually. I really like Icy Wind on Milotic, because this is a Speed control team after all. Assault Vest would work better in VGC too, and with Recover, Leftovers isn't really necessary. Thanks for the calcs!

Ahh I didn't realize that Recover isn't compatible with Assault Vest. Thanks!

Sorry about that forgot what I was typing I edited it.

Just a suggestion for Heatran run 44 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 204 Spe with a Modest nature. This allows you to live a Adamant Landorus EQ with shuca Berry.

This seems more useful, as Landorus-T is very common. I'll update Heatran's EV spread. Thanks!

Now i can finally get into a more elaborated rate! Although there isn't much to rate here, i want point out one huge asset the team needs to cover. And with that, i mean the following: Your team is currently struggling with Wide Guard Aegislash paired with Mega Charizard Y. A extremely popular core in sun archetypes, you can't really do much to hit it when it starts spamming Wide Guard, and if you make that slight mistake of trying to acknowledge this and go directly for Knock Off, you risk your opponent playing smartly and just going for King's Shield and switching into their Landorus-T check (every sun team must have one), which already leaves you in a bad position, as Aegislash can freely Wide Guard / Shadow Ball the Gallade Slot (which you have no switch ins for, either) and the Landorus-T check can do whatever it wants.

How can this be fixed? Pretty simple: Using single target moves. This covers a wide amount of options, which the 2 most viable ones for your team are Flamethrower Heatran and Stone Edge Landorus-T. U-Turn is seen as a pretty overrated move on Landorus-T, and it's sometimes riskier than going for the manual switch due to Fake Out / Flinches / Swagger situations that doesn't allow it to happen freely. That acts just as a passive answer, however. You got to still play carefully around Aegislash + Charizard Y, specially if the latter has Hidden Power Ground.
An Assault Vest Landorus-T can be used as well. Would give an EV spread, but i don't have it at hand right now. In any case, if you want to keep Scarf on Landorus-T, an Ev spread of 12 HP / 252 Atk / 92 Def / 4 SpD / 148 Spe is reccomended, so you survive LO Bisharp's Sucker Punch and also outspeeding Weavile, one of the fastest unboosted Pokemon you'll find in VGC.

Well, hope this helps! Watch out for Trick Room teams!

I actually had multiple problems dealing with Aegislash and Landorus-T when I took this team on Battle Spot, so I'll use your suggestions. I'll try the AV set on Landorus-T because Choice Scarf hasn't been doing much use for my team (that and I keep forgetting Thundurus carries HP Ice and I lock into Rock Slide like a scrub).
I might try to replace someone with some Pokemon that can deal with Trick Room teams, but I have no ideas.

Your TR matchup is OK (although, slap an amoonguss on EVERY team and the TR matchup will be OK), just play around it carefully lol.
Protip: if you have milotic vs landoge and aegis, go for scald as opposed to icy wind. If you have the competitive boost, it should OHKO. If you don't, you can burn it and it's generally safer than icy wind. People keep forgetting scald is also SE on landorus (proven by myself, this guy had a lando thundo with a heatran in the back vs my milotic amoonguss, switched in tran just to get KOed by scald. It wasn't even a read)...

... it looks like a pretty good team; I'd like to try it at PS.
Now, this might sound stupid but I really dislike Lando-T. What could be a replace for it?
