ORAS OU Mega-Metagross Offensive Team

Hello! This team was able to peak at 1600 on the Showdown OU ladder, but still has a few flaws I don't know how to fix. for example, this team has a very hard time with sand, as I lack a flying type or ground immunity, and bulky steel types such as Ferrothorn. the team is based around weakening Mega Metagross's counters with Manaphy and Clefable, and winning with it.

376MMS.png
Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
  • Meteor Mash
  • Zen Headbutt
  • Bullet Punch
  • Hammer Arm
Pretty standard M-Metagross with BP as this team's only priority other than Sucker Punch. This is the basis for the core, and the team aims for late game sweeps with it.

445MS.png
Garchomp @ Lum Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
  • Stealth Rock
  • Earthquake
  • Dragon Claw
  • Swords Dance
Lead chomp was the last addition to the team, as a fast rocker, and Dragon STAB. Garchomp's job is usually to set up rocks, and weaken something (such as Rotom-W) with a +2 Dragon Claw, before fainting.

036MS.png
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
  • Calm Mind
  • Moonblast
  • Moonlight
  • Flamethrower
Unaware CM clef helps make up for this team's weakness to the many setup sweepers in the meta, such as Manaphy, Alteria, and to a lesser extent Scizor. This is basically the teams only way to deal with Skarm, Ferro, and Scizor, Luring them with Flamethrower, and allowing Mega-Metagross to sweep later game.

490MS.png
Manaphy @ Wacan Berry
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
  • Tail Glow
  • Surf
  • Ice Beam
  • Energy Ball
Speaking of setup sweepers, Manaphy is my main special wallbraker, and kills most bulky Water types with Energy ball that would otherwise give this team trouble. Wacan Berry allows Manaphy to live attacks like Specs Raikou's Thunderbolt and K.O it at +3. It is also basically my only way to deal with Excadrill, Sadly. I prefer Surf over Scald, as Surf weakens walls slightly better.

625MS.png
Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
  • Iron Head
  • Sucker Punch
  • Knock Off
  • Pursuit
Pursuit Trapping Bisharp makes up the Keldeo - Bish core. Not to much else to say.

647MS.png
Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
  • Scald
  • Secret Sword
  • Hydro Pump
  • Hidden Power [Electric]
Scarf Modest Keldeo is my only scarfer, and has HP electric to weaken more of Mega Metagross's checks, like Slowbro. Modest provides extra power, and Timid doesn't let it outspeed anything important, other than other Scarfers.

Threat List:

212MS.png
Only real way to KO this thing is having Clefable at full health.
184MS.png
I cant switch into Azumarill without a prediction
530MS.png
645TMS.png
Pretty obviously I have no Ground resist or immunity, so sand teams and scarf Lando cause lots of problems.
598MS.png
036MS.png
302MMS.png
Lastly Common stall threats, especially Ferrothorn and Sabelye, give me problems. Clef is my only way to deal with them, and most people know to run Clef checks.

Edit: Importable

And that's the team! I really need to add a good stall breaker, Scizor check, and Ground immunity. Thanks!

Hi Waxcode, really nice team you have there and I've got a few suggestions I'll like to recommend for your team to improve it.
  1. As mentioned by yourself, your team tend to struggle against bulkier Steep types like Ferrothorn and Scizor, one change I'll recommend to the team is to make Garchomp bulky with Rocky Helmet and the move Fire Blast to help cope with the 2 mentioned a lot easily while still providing Stealth Rock. With the Rocky Helmet and Rough Skin damage and bulk given to Garchomp, it helps your team to deal with opposing Metagross fairly better as well.
    445.png

    Garchomp (F) @ Rocky Helmet
    Ability: Rough Skin
    EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 Spe
    Impish Nature
    - Earthquake
    - Dragon Tail
    - Stealth Rock
    - Fire Blast
  2. I'll recommend changing Clefable to a Magic Guard variant with Soft Boiled instead of Moonlight. It helps it not get worn down so easily and it takes hit much better neutrally. With the Magic Guard variant, I'll recommend using Thunder Wave as your last move instead of Flamethrower since you now have a Garchomp to deal with Scizor and Clefable is able to stall Ferrothorn out of Gyro Ball easily. Thunder Wave also helps to cripple common threats that made you used Unaware as well.
    036.png

    Clefable (F) @ Leftovers
    Ability: Magic Guard
    EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
    Calm Nature
    IVs: 0 Atk
    - Calm Mind
    - Thunder Wave
    - Moonblast
    - Soft-Boiled
  3. For Manaphy, it's just a minor suggestion, you may want to consider running Hidden Power Fire instead of Ice Beam especially since you have a Bisharp with Pursuit to trap whatever Ice Beam hits like Latios. Manaphy commonly lures in Ferrothorn and with Hidden Power Fire, it provides your team with a way to lure it in and kill it off at +3 so that it eases Metagross sweep even better in late game. Lastly, just a minor change, don't put that 4EVs into HP for Manaphy, it's usually better to keep your HP as an odd number so it takes lesser in terms of percentage from residual damage like Sandstorm and statuses.
    490.png
That's all I have. Hope it helps n_n

Hey, i think you are mixing things up with the roles of the Pokemon in your team, you should view your team like this:

376-m.png
+
490MS.png
is a deadly core, Manaphy can handle almost every Mega Metagross check and bring them to the point where Metagross can finish them.
With Manaphy you beat Skamory and Scizor too (Clefable is too unreliable for that job and dies to Steel attacks! Never do that, Scizor can Ohko you) You can use Hidden Power Fire to beat Ferrothorn.
If you run Surf, Splash Plate might be the right item for you because of the damage output. But Leftovers should be best in the long run, Wacan Berry might not work most of the time.

036.png

Clefable @ Leftovers | Unaware
Bold 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Moonblast / Heal Bell / Wish / Protect

I'd change your set to this: Clefable as a cleric to remove status from Metagross and Manaphy, also to pass wishes to both because they lack recovery. This thing deals easily with Sableye. (I faced a metal burst Sableye before...) Also deals with Setup Pokemon. For example Leaf Storm Serperior, stall out the Leaf storms with Wishes. I'd put enough SpD in Clefable to be able to avoid the 2hko if you want to deal with Serperoir using Clefable.
This is also your Draco switchin and your check to Latis.

445MS.png

As Alkov said a Rocky Helmet Garchomp would fit to punish physical attackers, also weakening Metagross walls. But you can also try out the offensive variant, but then Metagross gives you problems.

625MS.png
and
647MS.png
are not really providing anything new to the team. You have to specify what they provide and what their exact role is on that team, why you chose them.

So i'd change
625MS.png
->
286.png
which helps with the Sand/Excadrill matchup and also deals with Bisharp and Scarf Tyranitar. Breloom also pressures problematic Pokemon like Rotom because Manaphy is afraid of Volt Switch and needs to set up to ohko Rotom. Putting something asleep with Spore is also great. Try different Breloom sets, maybe the Focus Sash variant is something for you, or the Life Orb Swords Dance set, as a late game wincondition.

Look at
006-my.png

If you apply these, you struggle with Charizard Y having nothing for it to switch in. (Your version doens't have an answer too) If rocks are not up Metagross can't deal with it and it has to be Mega evolved.
A Latios/Latias can work here. I'd go with a Roost Latios. Also helps dealing with Keldeo.
So

The best way to mitigate most of the problems you have is to add more weapons to maximize the team's offensive pressure. Try adding Klefki over Clefable. With this change you'll limit opportunities for your opponent to set up and most of the time, Klefki will allow you to keep your momentum while setting hazards at the same time. An emergency Thunder-Wave will stop most set up sweepers from shredding the team.

The next thing would be to add Swords Dance + Rock Polish Landorus-T over Manaphy. Landorus-T would be able to help with sand as well as Scizor and it also gives the team a ground immunity. Bulky waters might still be problematic but they will be limited by hazards and easily KOed by Garchomp or Keldeo. SD + RP Landorus-T is a better setup option than Manaphy because of its ability to augment both speed and attack. Manaphy is limited by its pedestrian speed tier and is easy to revenge killed or forced out after a boost. If you still want to keep Manaphy then try a bulkier spread with Substitute + Salac Berry (108 Hp / 252 Spa / 148 Spe) w/ sub/scald/tailglow/energyball. If you decide to use Landorus-T or even test it then use Ice Punch > Bullet Punch on Metagross so it can beat Landorus-T, Gliscor, and etc. The extra coverage is necessary on an offensive team such as this.

Hello Waxcode , and welcome to Smogon!

Unfortunately, this RMT is currently not following the rules which can be found in the RMT Resource Thread; specifically, this thread violates rule #4, because you lack sufficient descriptions for each Pokemon on your team. As such, I am afraid that I will have to lock this thread for the time being. If you would like this thread to be reopened, feel free to PM me with your updated RMT, and I would be happy to reopen this thread for you. If you need help making an RMT up to the required standards, I recommend that you carefully read the RMT Resource Thread and check out other RMTs from the Team Showcase and RMT Archive for some examples.

Good luck with your team, and have a nice day!
