Hello Smogon!
Today I'll be going through my Mega Pidgeot team, which I have tested and had both success and failure with in the ladder, but I felt that it had a lot of flaws and so on.
Anyways, here's the team!
Pidgeot-Mega @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Big Pecks
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- U-turn
Mega Pidgeot is very strong paired with the right pokémon, so I decided to start a team based on it.
Hurricane is your main STAB that always hits thanks to No Guard and has a very solid chance to confuse opponents. Heat Wave to hit types that resist Hurricane and Roost is for more longevity on the field, specially against Stealth Rocks.
Kyurem-Black @ Leftovers
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 56 HP / 216 SpA / 236 Spe
Mild Nature
- Substitute
- Ice Beam
- Fusion Bolt
- Earth Power
Kyurem-B is an excellent partner for Mega Pidgeot.
Resist most things Pidgeot would be weak with, as its natural bulk is very good. Subsitute is mainly for status absorb and attacks that don't quite make the cut.
Rest of the set is standard mixed Kyurem-B, with STAB Ice Beam hitting very hard and Earth Power which is specially good against Heatran.
Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 108 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover / Wish
- Giga Drain
- Baton Pass
- Nasty Plot
After I added those two, I realized that this little pokémon right here went so perfectly with them. In addition to type coverage, Celebi provides Nasty Plot and Baton Pass, allowing Mega Pidgeot and Kyruem-B to just wreck through walls like they never did.
Providing Subsitute in replacement of Recover seems like a good idea, but it is also a bit redundant since I already have Sub on Kyurem-B and managing to Pass both Sub and the Nasty Plot to Pidgeot is very hard, as it might just die before you switch.
0 Atk IVs to minimize confuse and Foul Play super effective damage.
Landorus-Therian @ Earth Plate
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 184 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
After I realized the lack of entry Hazard Setters in my team, I decided to use the classic OU star, Landorus-Therian.
Although it adds one another Ice weakness to my team, it goes allong in terms of coverage and damage, as Talonflame and Charizard already block the entire path for Mega Pidgeot to clean, so if Stone Edge doesn't miss, it is one threat down for the Sweepers.
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
I needed a spinner, so I thought of Excadrill, though this is the pokémon I think doesn't really fit, though it still provides some nice special bulk and Rapid Spin which works well with the Stealth Rocks resist and Toxic Spikes immunity.
Also sort of offensively checks a variety of pokémon, some of which are Rotom-Wash, which can be 2OHKOd most of the time by spamming EQ.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split
Rotom-Wash is my favorite Physical Wall. Handles a lot of direct hits, and can work as a Defensive Pivot against some other pokémon.
In my opinion, Resto Chesto is very inconstistance. Yes, you can take status well and basically regain the whole of your HP which is very unfortunate for some enemy sets, but regardless, Pain Split fits my playstyle a bit more, as it allows you to take advantage of the bulkiness some Physical Attackers have, and can also work well against setters that can 2OHKO you. 0 Atk IVs to minimize confuse and Foul Play damage.
Threat list:
Mega Metagross: I've struggled against this thing, specially the Rock Polish variation. If he has EQ and Ice Punch, pretty much GG after one boost.
Weavile: Though Rotom walls it, it can stil manage to sweep with the help of special sweepers like Keldeo, which he pairs really good with, and having an AMAZING speed and a priority move, even MPidgeot fears it.
Talonflame: Bird Spam Brave Bird is a notable problems in this team. I have a lot of ways to handle this Pokémon, but Gale Wings/Choice Band is way too powerful sometimes.
Mega Charizard Y: I don't really have reliable special walls on this, so if I miss Stone Edge, its path is very open.
Mega Charizard X: Pretty self explanatory. One DD and it wrecks the whole of my team.
There are more, but I'm not really good at threatlists, so help me out :]
Welp, there it is... I hope you guys help me out with this, thanks in advanced!!!
