Mega Sableye is an excellent Pokemon on stall teams thanks to its ability Magic Bounce deflecting status moves, effectively neutering certain Pokemon relying on them to accomplish progress, such as Blissey and Ferrothorn. Its good defensive typing and bulk allow it to be one of the only counters to Mega Medicham in the metagame. Knock Off is Mega Sableye's most spammable move, allowing it to make consistent progress by removing items and chipping the opposition. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers, such as suicide lead Landorus-T or Garchomp that might try to setup, or Mega Mawile, which could otherwise freely switch into Mega Sableye. Recover is absolutely needed in order to keep Mega Sableye healthy through the course of the game. Protect lets Mega Sableye mega evolve safely, and can be used later in the battle to scout opposing movesets or choice item users, or stall turns in general. Prankster is the best pre-mega ability, since priority Will-O-Wisp and Recover can be useful in some early games scenarios, and the two other abilities almost have no use at all.
A straightforward physically defensive oriented spread allows Mega Sableye to take on Mega Medicham better, and deter it from spamming Thunder Punch or Ice Punch to fish for haxx or waste Mega Sableye's Recover PPs.
Since Mega Sableye fits on stall teams, staples of this archetype are naturally good partners. Chansey enjoys Mega Sableye's ability to absorb Knock Off, deny entry hazards, and check Mega Medicham. In return, Chansey can wall certain Fairy-Types, or strong special attackers in general, that threaten Mega Sableye, such as Tapu Koko, and can use Aromatherapy to heal Mega Sableye from Scald burns. Unaware Clefable and Quagsire also enjoy hazards not being on their side of the field and can take on Pokemon that can setup on it. Even if Mega Sableye can keep hazards off by itself in certain matchups, hazard removal support is still needed. Corviknight, Gliscor, and Moltres are good examples of partners able to do so. Corviknight and Gliscor in particular are good at keeping rocks off against U-Turn Landorus-T, since Mega Sableye can quickly fell in 2HKO range of Earthquake if it switches into U-Turn a couple of times.

Mega Sableye has an incredible support movepool, but the other moves it has access to are usually hard to justify over the sheer utility the main set provide. Fake Out is an option over Protect to still be able to mega evolve safely while inflicting chip damages, and preventing the opponent to act, but it comes at the cost of not being able to mega evolve safely against Tapu Lele. 4 EVs in speed can be used to outspeed Ferrothorn. A specially defensive spread could be used to take on Heatran, but this set is rather inconsistent, since it still loses to Z-Moves variants and is much more pressured by Mega Medicham. A Calm Mind set can sound appealing, but lacks the utility of the standard set, and can be easily pressured by the myriad of Fairy-types populating the tier, Swords Dance users such as Garchomp, which can boost multiple times in order to break Mega Sableye despite a burn, and loses to the common Haze Toxapex.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Fairy-Types**: Most Fairy-types, such as Clefable, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini and Mega Mawile threaten to 2HKO or OHKO Mega Sableye with their STAB moves. However, most of them don’t want to switch into Knock Off or, in Mega Mawile case, Will-O-Wisp. Mega Mawile must also be wary of Prankster Will-O-Wisp if Sableye didn’t mega evolve. Mega Diancie, however, takes minimal damages from Knock Off and has no item to lose, bounce back Will-O-Wisp, and forces Mega Sableye to immediately switch out.
**Status Conditions and Chip Damages**: Even if Recover has a respectable amount of 16 PPs, Mega Sableye must be wary to not burn them too quickly, especially against opposing bulky and stall teams alike, where Mega Sableye is often needed to check multiple Pokemon. Being burned or poisoned, switching regulary into entry hazards, or Sandstorm can force Mega Sableye to dig into Recover’s PPs more often than it would like. Status in general also greatly alter its ability to check Mega Medicham.
**Fire-types**: Fires-types are immune to Will-O-Wisp, and have usually enough power to break through Mega Sableye. Both Charizard forms wall Mega Sableye easily, and 2HKO it with their fire stabs. Even Heatran and Victini also have a great matchup against Mega Sableye, both dislikes losing their item, unless the former is holding a Z-Crystal. Victini also takes big damages from Knock Off.
