With changes in the meta game in OU and UU, I have decided to jump back into the PS ladder. Check out my first attempt at team building in the UU tier thus far...
My idea for the team was to create a volt-turn hyper offense team centered around Mega Sceptile.
Sage (Sceptile-Mega) (F) @ Sceptilite
Ability: Lightning Rod
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast
Sceptile is the first pokemon on the list because it is my favorite mega. Mega-Sceptile serves as a great counter to the multitudes of bulky waters in UU like Suicune and Milotic and provides the team with an offensive check to many other mons. I decided to run with the Sub set mainly to switch it up from the all out attacking set that I would normally run. Dragon Pulse is the primary spamming move that can really wear down an opposing teams walls.
Bruce (Crobat) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
I decided on Crobat next because he has pretty nice type synergy with Mega-Sceptile and serves as the first member of the Volt-Turn Core. The BulkyBat set is very useful in checking the likes of Chesnaught, Virizion and other grass types that would like to come in. Brave Bird allows Crobat to hit relatively hard and potentially revenge kill. Defog is a great support move and roost adds some much needed longevity.
Othello (Cobalion) @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Close Combat
- Volt Switch
- Taunt
Cobalion is the other half of the Volt-Turn Core. Cobalion is a fantastic pokemon that serves as a fast taunter to better deal with walls and a hard hitter with dual stabs and a maxed out attack. Cobalion's typing works really well alongside that of Crobat and Sceptile, the steel type being a welcomed addition to the team.
Sylph (Gardevoir) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Energy Ball
- Healing Wish
Choice Scarfed Gardevoir was my next choice because at this point in team building I wanted a Scarfer and I wanted to complete the Dragon/fairy/steel core that was being formed. Gardevoir is a capable wall breaker and gives the team great coverage.
Burt (Swampert) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Damp
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Scald
- Toxic
Swampert is the defensive backbone of the team. At this point I knew that I needed Stealth Rocks and I wanted a bulky water type and another immunity to electric (the other being lighting rod on Sceptile). Toxic is run to better deal with stall, and because I didnt think that protect or ice coverage was necessary. Earthquake is an easily spammed stab attack, and scald is for burns.
Atlas (Entei) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Stone Edge
- Iron Head
I debated for a while before I chose choice banded Entei as the last pokemon. I knew that I wanted a powerful wall breaker, but I didn't want to use another choiced mon. However, I decided that CB Entei was the correct answer because I gives me access to some much needed priority and complete the Fire/water/grass core. I am running Iron head over Bulldoze for some extra florges coverage because I hate florges...
Thanks for checking my team out, please let me know what you think in the comment section. I welcome any criticisms and advice that you may have.
