XY OU Mega Tyranitar ft. Magnepwn (1600 and rising)

Hello everyone!

The AtharvaLarva is back for a third RMT, which features the one and only mega tyranitar, Magnezone, and buddies. The team features a core I found on the Victory Road version of the good cores thread, featuring Mega Tyranitar, Lum DD Gyarados, and air balloon magnet rise magnezone. This team has peaked 1600, and I just want some optimization of the team to increase it's effectiveness. Without further ado, let's get straight to it!

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake

Mega Tyranitar is the star of the show here. He's great in the late game, and against a sufficiently worn down team, with his counters eliminated, he can almost always sweep. This is the standard set with standard EV's, blah blah, ice punch for gliscor/lando-t/garchomp, stuff stuff.

Magnezone @ Air Balloon
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 112 HP / 252 SpA / 144 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Magnet Rise

As awesome as mega tyranitar is, he is easily walled by the likes of skarmory and ferrothorn. That's where magnet pull badassery comes in. This set can easily trap both the bulky steels. What's awesome about it is that it can also trap excadrill! I switch magnezone in on a predicted excadrill, to which he can't attack b/c of air balloon. So, on the turn he tries to break the balloon[and hoping that I don't get flinchaxed via iron head/rock slide], I click on the magnet rise button. Now, for five turns, excadrill is powerless as I roast him with some HP fires. Speed EV's are to speed creep Heatran.

*EDIT: The above set wasn't made by me, it was some guy on the good cores thread who thought up of it. I don't want to cause a misunderstanding

Gyarados @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 8 HP / 252 Atk / 248 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Bounce

Gyarados finishes the three piece core. He acts as a secondary win condition, and a pokemon that can help break down opposing sand offense. Most people don't expect regular gyarados, and are surprised when they send in mega venusaur or keldeo and see a bounce. He is a good check to keldeo, one of mega T-tar's biggest counters, and is a good pokemon in general. Stone edge is to predict things like thundurus, and get off neutral damage against something.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled

This thing is just so f**king awesome I can't describe it in words. Clef is a great status absorber, and can tank hits from many pokemon, and retaliate back. This fairly common spread avoids the 2HKO from Greninja's Hydro pump, who would give the above core problems. To be honest, I think she is a staple for a team centered around physical sweepers.

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish

A defogger or spinner is required on any team, so latias was the lady of choice when it came to this slot. Life orb for more offensive power, and Draco Meteor and Psyshock for reliable stabs. She also acts as another counter to megaSaur and Keldeo, and provides more type synergy and supports the team through healing wish. (By the way, I think she's my favorite legendary. So cool looking, a stunning red, and not to mention that she is peaceful and is willing to sacrifice herself for others? Boss)

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
- Drain Punch

Conkeldurr is here to patch up some holes in the team. He's an awesome check to chansey and sand offense, and helps to take out bisharp and tyranitar as well (as they would wreck latias). He provides priority as well, and knock off spam is pretty nice.

Threats

As with every team, there are a lot of threats that are present. Some major ones of mine include mega pinsir, bird spam (to an extent), and mega mawile(not as much of a threat, I can wear her down), and mega medicham, who is probably the biggest threat. If y'all could give me some advice on how to improve this team, that would be great.

Well, leave a reply, I am open to constructive criticism and suggestions. Thanks!

From,

AtharvaLarva

Looking pretty good, only comment is Conk is total ass atm and you got a weakness to Quagsire and Gastro and, even with Conk, sand. Solution? Sash Breloom:

Breloom @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SDef
Jolly/Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance/Spore
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Rock Tomb

Get in, set up, wreck shit. Still checks sand and Bishart w/ even stronger Mach Punch and you're no longer walled by bulky waters types, namely water grounds and Mega Gyara. So slap this sex on there and ladder away muh friend

I like this team, good core, I like seeing Conk, especially with an assault vest. Nice choice. My only suggestion is to possibly use Latios over Latias... Latios gets defog as well, and lacks healing wish only (correct me if I am wrong). I like Latias on your team, but if you're going for the offensive build with 252/252 offenses, Latios does the job better in my opinion. Something like this works well with Latios, if you are willing to use it...

Latios @ Life Orb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock/Psychic
- Earthquake
- Defog

With this set, you can easily use Defog like you addressed earlier, with the added offensive stats, as well as another attacking move in earthquake that can wreak teams that are not prepared. Opposing Magnezone, and steel types that resist Latios' stab moves get hit fairly hard.

Hope this helped, I can see why this team is threatening. If you were going for a more supportive Latias set, I would change the EVs but it looks good to me.
