Hello Smogon forums. I've been on these forums a lot and I've never actually posted a RMT but im doing so now. My team is focused on Mega Tyranitar at its core, with the big dog easily being my favorite pokemon in the game. Mega T Tar is a good answer to bird spam, and with his sand stream he gets strong SpD from being rock type. Overall T-Tar has power, but he also has some beef that lets him take more risks in a match and I like that.
So here is the export, I've played quite a few matches with this team already and I'll try to go over what I think is weak and strong and hopefully I can get some suggestions for improvement.
Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Ice Punch/Fire Punch
- Crunch/Earthquake
This T-tar set has a lot of coverage, with stone miss being my primary stab damage. DD is obviously for setting up opportunities, predicting a switch or a protect and getting off one DD can really set up T-Tar to tear teams apart. Ice punch is for dragonite, landorus, gliscor, salamence, garchomp. all can pose threats to T-tar with their damage or statusing. Crunch is a bit of a point of contention for me as well as fire punch. Sometimes i feel like i would benefit more from earthquake rather than crunch to deal with magnezone, excadrill, and charizard x although stone edge seems to handle him ok. But crunch is really useful against alakazam, gengar, trevenant, jellicent, ect and it has stab. same with fire punch, sometimes when i find myself fighting an annoying ferrothron i curse myself for not getting fire punch, but then when im being walled by gliscor i moan that i dont have ice punch. in the end i suppose they are equal and ill just have to compensate with the rest of my team. Overall I've had great success with T tar and i really enjoy using him. hes my favorite pokemon and one of my favorite megas and id like to keep him core on the team, but i am open to the idea of changing his moves or even his item and picking a different mega as I most often use T tar as a sandstormer/tank/pursuiter anyways. Please tell me what you think.
Thundurus (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 192 HP / 76 SpA / 220 SpD / 20 Spe
Calm Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
Not much to say, i think its a pretty standard looking set. Thundurus fills the role as lead as well as a landorus killer/taunter to shut down those early attempts at setting up. The only issue I have is when my opponent leads with something like excadrill or quagsire and im forced to switch without doing anything productive, but thats the part of thundurus i suppose.
Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Outrage
- Fusion Bolt
- Substitute
KB is a straight up beast. His monstrous attack stat makes his outrages smash into opponents so hard that they cease to exist. I set KB up to a bit of a mixed attacker, with some SpA for a solid ice beam when needed. Sub i like to use when im sure it wont get broken and i can outrage behind it safely, giving me a layer of protection if i make a big mistake and need to switch out but cant in the middle of outrage or when i get confused and i decide to go for an attack anyways. He gets killed pretty easily and i have to make sure ive rid the enemy of all his strong steel and fairy types before i go balls deep with the outrage, but when i do its really amazing how strong he is. Fusion bolt is for zard Y, slowbro, and even talonflame sometimes if im behind a sub.
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
One of the posterboys for OU, Ferrothron is as reliable as they come. A beastly physical wall who laughs at so many sweepers, (especially pinsir). leech seeding and gyro balling to victory has saved me so many times its not even funny, and ferrothorn is really good to switch in on bird spam as well. but i think im being kind of dumb explaining how ferrothron works in my team on this forum, because ferrothorn works so well in so many teams easily.
Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Calm Nature
- Healing Wish
- Draco Meteor/recover
- Defog
- Roar
Latias was kind of just a last minute "eh" when i realized i needed a defogger. i set it up to wall common high threat attacks that the rest of my team cant handle super well, like flare blitz or focus blast. roar is for sweepers who got a little too fat too fast, or baton passing pokemon like scolipede. healing wish is awesomeeee for turning around a game, especially when latias loses most of her usefulness in the late game and the stealth rocker is dead. healing wish has helped me so many times by restoring a burned T-tar, paralyzed ferro, or sleeping KB to their full glory.
Landorus (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
Landorus might just be the real MVP of this team. With coverage better than most mobile phone plans, this man has all my bases. Standard moveset but with choice scarf i can all but ensure that he will go before most moves except priority of course. ive even outspeeded a zard x with one DD up several times. Landorus can also take fighting hits pretty decently and put the opponent in a bad spot where they need to switch out, but whatever they switch into will also take a big hit. especially if i can predict the switch.
Thats basically the team, ive often thought that i can make better use of the sandstorm that T-tar brings but putting in excadrill gives me more weakness to fighting than i am comfortable with. The pitfalls of this team that i face time and time again are zard x if my landorus is dead and same with magnezone. clefable can be an issue if i allow it to get a calm mind off or two, because sometimes it can OHKO my latias. another issue for this team is dragonite, depending on whether or not it has fire punch. if not then i usually am able to handle it pretty well with my ferrothorn. and of the last big issues i have is with stone miss. freaking stone miss hates me, especially at a critical moment, and sometimes i regret setting up my T-tar so that it is my main source of damage. Water also does pretty well against me, Keldeo is one of my biggest threats as well as bisharp with a SD up because he can rip through T-tar with a bullet punch as well a KB. Please rate the team and tell me how I can improve! I dont claim to be good at this game, ive always capped at 1600 but i really enjoy playing and id love to learn how i can become better. Thank you for your rate :)
