Hello there.
After the relative success of making a team around Specs Sylveon, I wanted to build an entirely different team to see what else I could do. I think I've failed miserably, as I've ended up with a Tailwind team based around a Fairy Pokemon.
The Team:
Altaria (F) @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 196 SpA / 60 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Fire Blast
- Tailwind
- Protect
I haven't seen much of Mega Altaria, but there's something about the cotton ball that I just can't get enough of. Deciding between physical and special M-Altaria came down to spread damage, as well as not being totally crippled by Intimidates and burns.
After Mega Evolving, Pixilated boosted Hyper Voice becomes quite the strong move. Fire Blast provides coverage against Steel types not named Heatran. Speed is an issue with Mega Altaria, so I use Tailwind over Draco Meteor. Protect provides a safe turn to Mega Evolve, as well as having some general utility with stalling out opposing Tailwind and Trick Room. As well, it allows Altaria to stay in non-Mega form for an extra turn, making use of Cloud Nine, which can deal with the various weathers.
The EV spread allows Mega Altaria to live a 252+ Atk Double Edge from Mega Kangaskhan. The 60 Speed EVs let Mega Altaria outspeed Scarf Landorus-T under Tailwind. The rest are put into Special Attack to maximize damage output.
Heatran (F) @ Chople Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 50
EVs: 52 HP / 252 SpA / 204 Spe
Modest Nature
- Heat Wave
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Protect
Heatran is now the Fire type user of choice, in place of Arcanine and Volcarona. While Heatran cannot set up Tailwind, its other attributes make it worthwile to use.
Heat Wave is the Fire type move of choice, having the nice spread damage. Earth Power is the secondary STAB, dealing with opposing Heatran. Flash Cannon lets Heatran take on Fairy types, such as Specs Sylveon. Protect goes in the final move slot to get Lefties recovery, stall the weather/Tailwind/Trick Room shenanigans, and to punish double targets.
204 Speed EVs let Heatran outspeed Adamant Bisharps, and 252 Special Attack with Modest nature give Heatran good damage output. The rest is put into HP for some added bulk. I'm still trying to decide whether a Chople Berry or Lefties would be better for this set.
Landorus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 156 HP / 148 Atk / 4 Def / 108 SpD / 92 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Superpower
- U-turn
A Ground type Pokemon is a good partner for any Fairy type, as Earthquake gives extremely good coverage with Hyper Voice. Of course, since I needed a Ground type, I look to Landorus-T. Because Intimidate support.
Earthquake is a necessary move, destroying Heatran, as well as denting Fire and Steel types in general. Rock Slide has great utility, and allows Lando-T to check all of the birds. Superpower is pretty much for Mega Kangaskhan, but it can certainly be a good move to avoid Wide Guards. U-turn is in the final moveslot, as avoiding prior damage on the other Pokemon (such as Altaria or Breloom) on the switch is valuable.
An Adamant nature along with the provided EV spread and Assault Vest does the following (taken from here: nuggetbridge.com/forums/topic/12571-assault-vest-landorus-ev-spread-help/):
Rotom-Wash @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect
At this point, I required an Ice resist, something that can beat Water types, and something physically bulky in general. In my country, they call that Rotom-Wash.
The moveset is generally standard. Hydro Pump is the strong Water STAB move, and itis my only choice for a water move hits pretty hard, especially on Landorus-T. Thunderbolt is used for its good power. Other choices like Volt Switch and Discharge were considered, but the consistent damage is definitely nice to have. Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers, such as Landorus-T, Mega Kangaskhan, and Bisharp. Protect is used for the reasons stated with Mega Altaria (except for the Cloud Nine bit).
52 Speed EVs let Rotom-W outspeed max Speed Azumarill, and lets Rotom-W 2HKO with Thunderbolt. The defensive EVs and Bold Nature let Rotom-W live a 252+ Atk Double Edge from Mega Kangaskhan. The Sitrus Berry is used over Leftovers for the instant recovery.
Breloom (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Protect
- Spore
Breloom fills the need of priority user, Fighting type, Sturdy breaker, Sash destroyer, and general sleep spreader, all in one convenient package.
Bullet Seed is the obligatory grass STAB move of choice, breaking Sashes and hitting Rotom-W. Mach Punch deals with Tyranitar, as well as most Steel types. Spore is just a solid move in general, letting the other members of the team get free hits in. Protect because Protect.
252 Attack EVs let Breloom get as much damage off as possible. Max Speed on Breloom lets it get fast Spores off. The Focus Sash lets Breloom live possible Brave Birds from Talonflame, and general SE hits, so that Breloom can Spore the dangerous members of the opposing team.
Braviary @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- Return
- Rock Slide
On my previous team, Staraptor was used for the role of Mega Venusaur killer, and general Flying spammer. However, Intimidates heavily decreased Staraptor's effectiveness, and that makes me sad. To prevent me from being sad, Scarf Braviary was chosen, for a couple of reasons. These reasons will be discussed below.
Brave Bird destroys Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss, two Pokemon that the rest of the team don't enjoy. Return is a safe STAB, dealing good neutral damage without the recoil of Brave Bird. Rock Slide is in the final moveslot, for getting rid of the Fire/Flying 'mons such as Talonflame and Charizard. As well, fast flinches can always change the course of a match.
Oh, another 252/252/4 spread? I think you get the idea. One thing to note is the Adamant nature. Since the Choice Scarf helps patch Braviary's speed, I figured that an Adamant nature would be better.

After the relative success of making a team around Specs Sylveon, I wanted to build an entirely different team to see what else I could do. I think I've failed miserably, as I've ended up with a Tailwind team based around a Fairy Pokemon.
Teambuilding Process:
I started with Mega Altaria, because I wanted to try it out. My last experience with Pixilated Hyper Voice went well enough, so why not?
Next up, I went with Arcanine. The Intimidate/Will-O-Wisp support is nice, and Flare Blitz/Close Combat dealt well enough with the Steel types that trouble Mega Altaria.
If one Intimidate is good, then two must be outstanding. So Landorus-T was chosen. Earthquake provides another way to deal with Steels.
I enjoyed using Suicune on my Specs Sylveon team, with Tailwind and Snarl support. So I figured it would do well on this team as well.
Breloom provides some nice sleep utility, as well as being the Fighting type I needed. Breloom also beats Rotom-W, which always gives me trouble.
Braviary rounded out the team, as Brave Bird dealt with Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss, Superpower deals with Mega Kangaskhan, and Defiant punishes Intimidates.
I felt that my team struggled against Water types in general. Rotom-W could beat Water types, while still providing speed control with Thunder Wave.
After a few games, I realized something: I don't like Thunder Wave. I missed the Tailwind support. At the same time, I realized that the rest of my team all performed Arcanine's role, and I never ended up bringing it. I solved both problems with the inclusion of Volcarona.
gingeruprising mentioned replacing Volcarona in favour of Heatran. After some games, I really enjoyed using Heatran, so I put it on the team, and decided to use Tailwind on Altaria.

Trick Room: None of my Pokemon are particularly slow, and I don't have Taunt on this team (although Mental Herb is becoming a thing, so I doubt Taunt would totally alleviate this). Stalling out Trick Room turns with Protect is the main strategy here, but a well played TR team with spread moves will probably win.
Ice: No secrets here. Two thirds of my team are weak to Ice moves. I'm not sure what I could do here to alleviate this without changing the team composition too much.
