MegaSableSkar Core
Introduction
This is the first team I've ever put on here, but I've been playing and making teams for a very long time. I really like Mega Sableye despite it being less and less useful as of recently. Skarmory compliments Mega Sableye extremely well, and the other Pokemon were built around both of them. I've laddered with it for about 25 or so games, and the team seems to orbit around 1400 ELO, but I managed to get it up to around 1475 ELO, before tilting back under 1400. Feedback is appreciated as always.
Teh Team
Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Will-o-wisp
- Recover
- Foul Play
The Pokemon the team is built around. Mega Sableye is a great lead, as it checks/walls Landorus-Therian, Ferrothorn, Garchomp, and other physical attackers and rock-setters. Sableye boasts an immunity to psychic, fighting, and normal type attacks, which is useful for having an easy switch-in on potential sweepers. Knock off is used if you predict them switching out, or just plain stab on special sweepers weak to it. Will-o-wisp cripples many physical attackers and some stallers. Recover is its only form of recovery, which is much needed if it wants to take hits. Foul play is useful for 1 or 2-shotting physical attackers not resistant to it.
Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Counter
- Iron Head
- Roost
Skarmory is the second and last physical wall on this team. Many of the pokemon Mega Sableye have trouble with, Skar takes care of, such as Bisharp(although it will be a sacrifice), and fairy types. Skarmory also presents a better switch in to non-flare blast Garchomp and Lando-T. Rocky Helmet is to get residual damage on physical attackers. Defog allows it to blow away any mis-predicted stealth rocks set up by the opposition. Counter is used to take care of Bisharp and Non-sub Mega Gyarados as well as other physical attackers who decide to just attack it. Iron head takes care of rock types, ice types, and fairies. Roost for recovery.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- U-turn
Scizor is the Physical attacker of the team as well as a pivot and wallbreaker... and revenge killer. Its main focus is to revenge kill and take care of fairies such as Mega Altaria, Clefairy, Azumaril, ect. Its choice band lets it hit harder than Mega Scizor at +0 and take down many already damaged pokes with just one BP. Knock off is used as a predict move and coverage. Bullet Punch murders nearly everything. Superpower for coverage, as well as kills Heatran's slower variants. U-turn for pivot. The speed ivs are necessary for Superpowering slow Heatrans and other things.
Volcarona @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Giga Drain
Volcarona is the Special Sweeper of the team. It is used to set up with a Quiver Dance whenever its threats are fainted, sometimes sweeping the entire opposing team. Lum Berry to shake off status when setting up a QD or on the switch in. With just one quiver dance, Volcarona one-shots many things. Fiery dance over fire blast for accuracy for a chance too boost SpA and more accuracy. Bug Buzz for STAB coverage on psychic and dark types like Latios and Tyranitar. Giga Drain for coverage and recovery.
Lanturn @ Leftovers
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Heal Bell
- Volt Switch
- Scald
- Thunderbolt
Lanturn is very underrated and nearly never used in OU, which is why I like using him. Nobody really expects Lanturn to be so Special Defensively bulky. Because of the bulk, it walls Pokemon like specially-oriented Tornadus-Therian and Starmie. Lanturn's main job is to Heal Bell whenever another Pokemon accidentally gets a status, and be immune to electric type attacks, effectively walling out Special Electric type attackers and getting off a free scald when it switches out for a chance to burn, or pivoting with Volt Switch. Thunderbolt is there purely for power, and because of lack of movepool.
Dragalge @ Black Sludge
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Hidden Power Fire
- Shadow Ball
Dragalge Is another Pokemon underrated by many, but because of its great Special bulk and its ability Adaptability, it makes for a great tank, and seemingly fits perfectly on this team. It's able to take nearly any special attack, responding usually with a 1 or 2HKO because of excellent coverage. Dragalage can also take a hit from nearly any fairy special attacker and respond with an OHKO Sludge Wave. Draco Meteor is obvious, as it deals huge damage and benefits from Adaptability STAB. Sludge Wave destroys Grass types and Fairy types like Serperior and Sylveon. Hidden Power fire is useful because people who have a Ferrothorn on their team normally like to send it out on Dragalge because of its resistance to its main STABs. Shadow Ball sometimes kills ghost and psychic types on their switch in without the SpA drop that Draco Meteor has.
Team Weaknesses
This team as very few weaknesses. Its main weakness is Speedy Special Heatran with earth power. Earthquake Mega Charizard X is less used than Speedy Special Heatran, but still counters nearly the whole team with supereffective EQ, Fire STAB, or just plain brute force. Also, not really a weakness, but this team doesn't like magnezone very much because of the 2 steel types. I can't think of much else, so suggesting some would be nice. :)
Other Options
You could replace Lanturn with Rotom-W to counter Mega Charizard X and Heatran, but that would leave it pretty defenseless against Special Electric type users such as Mega Manectric and Raikou, as well as T-wave users.
Conclusion
This team is the jizz. It just needs some adjustments. I will be making new teams and updating old ones and posting more teams in the future, so prepare for my dankness.
