[OVERVIEW]

Mesprit stands out as by far the most versatile Pokemon in PU thanks to its solid stat distribution, excellent ability in Levitate, and wide support movepool with moves such as U-turn, Healing Wish, Trick, Nasty Plot, and Stealth Rock. Mesprit is extremely good at role compression and can fulfill a variety of different needs for your team, although its counters rarely differ too much based on the set. While Mesprit is a solid wallbreaker and has the speed to beat out slower offensive and defensive staples like Tsareena and Weezing, it's still outpaced by a large portion of the metagame. Combined with a lack of any reliable recovery, this gives Mesprit extreme longevity issues, particularly Choice Scarf sets, which will rarely outspeed any other boosted Pokemon. Furthermore, Mesprit's special coverage can be lacking at times, as Mesprit can struggle against Steel-types such as Silvally-Steel and Togedemaru. Ultimately Mesprit's role compression can be very useful for covering weaknesses, but Mesprit will never be the best at any one role it attempts to cover.

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Scarf lets Mesprit revenge kill Pokemon such as Virizion and +1 Dragon Dance Scrafty. Many different teammates appreciate Healing Wish support from Mesprit, from recovery-lacking wallbreakers like Guzzlord to sweepers looking to set up twice such as Dragon Dance Scrafty. However, Trick can be run in this slot instead to cripple bulky Pokemon that otherwise wall Mesprit such as Jellicent and check bulky setup sweepers such as Cosmic Power Xatu. Mesprit rarely has opportunities to guarantee a safe switch in and needs to be brought in when a teammate has been KOed, via good predictions, or using pivoting. Slow pivots such as Silvally-Fairy and Lanturn are great options to safely bring Mesprit in and form a VoltTurn core. This will ideally be supplemented with a strong wallbreaker such as Magmortar or Alolan Exeggutor ready to be brought in on a convenient pivot to do some damage.

move 4: Shadow Ball / Thunderbolt
item: Colbur Berry / Life Orb

nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Nasty Plot turns Mesprit into a fairly powerful wallbreaker, being able to 2HKO most of the tier after a single boost. The last moveslot is fairly customizable; Shadow Ball is Mesprit's best move for Steel-types like Togedemaru and Galarian Stunfisk, but Thunderbolt is an effective way to threaten Flying- and Water-types like Talonflame and Vaporeon before Mesprit sets up. Colbur Berry is the preferred item, as it makes Mesprit harder to revenge kill with Dark-types like Sneasel and Absol and fare better versus Choice Scarf Passimian's Knock Off. Life Orb is a more powerful item that might even remove the need for Mesprit to set up, but the lack of longevity is such that Mesprit is unlikely to have many chances to wallbreak. A Timid nature allows Mesprit to outspeed Modest Magmortar and Timid Vanilluxe among other threats, but Modest can be run for more damage output. Passimian is a good partner because it can use U-turn to bring Mesprit in for easy setup opportunities on Pokemon such as Weezing and is a capable check to the Steel-types that give Mesprit issues. Due to Mesprit's lack of longevity, it often pairs well with a secondary wallbreaker like Magmortar or Archeops to keep up offensive pressure after Mesprit has been KOed. Sweepers and cleaners such as Ribombee and Lycanroc can make good use of Mesprit's wallbreaking to clean up the opposing team.

[SET]
name: Offensive Stealth Rock
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Psychic
move 3: Dazzling Gleam
move 4: U-turn / Healing Wish
item: Colbur Berry
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Mesprit's final moveslot is largely dependent on how badly you want Healing Wish on your team. U-turn is far more useful for keeping up momentum and preventing Mesprit from becoming too predictable, but Healing Wish can be an effective way to supplement setup sweepers such as Dragon Dance Charizard. Mesprit's best qualities are its good speed for a Stealth Rock setter and favorable matchup against several entry hazard removers such as Golbat and Hitmontop. Despite this set's lack of defensive investment, having few weaknesses means it often has the time to set up Stealth Rock and fire off multiple attacks. Few weaknesses and access to U-turn allow Mesprit to keep up momentum in a way few Stealth Rock users can, making it an ideal pick for more offensive teams. Its inability to deal much damage to special walls or Steel-types means that wallbreakers such as Tsareena and Toxicroak make for good partners. Mesprit appreciates Pokemon that can punish U-turn, such as Druddigon and Talonflame, which can discourage Pokemon like Passimian and Togedemaru from freely pivoting versus Mesprit. Mesprit can also opt for a more defensively oriented spread that runs both U-turn and Healing Wish while foregoing Dazzling Gleam. However this set runs into extreme competition from Uxie, which is both faster and bulkier than Mesprit at the cost of being mildly less threatening due to its lower offenses and inability to bluff more threatening sets.

move 3: Shadow Ball / Trick
move 4: U-turn / Trick
item: Choice Specs
ability: Levitate
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Shadow Ball is Mesprit's best way to hit Steel- and Psychic-types, U-turn eases Mesprit's reliance on predictions while gaining momentum in the process, and Trick can cripple switch-ins such as Articuno and Vaporeon. Choice Specs Mesprit is extremely prediction reliant, so having at least one of U-turn and Trick can be vital for a safer option that does not leave Mesprit Choice locked into an exploitable attack. Even with Dazzling Gleam, Dark-types greatly hinder Mesprit's ability to freely spam Psychic, so a solid Dark-type answer such as Passimian or Aromatisse is important. Mesprit is not the strongest wallbreaker around, so entry hazard setters such as Froslass and Regirock are advised to supplement its damage output. Weaker or non-boosting cleaners such as Dragon Dance Charizard and Alolan Exeggutor are ideal Pokemon to make use of Mesprit's wallbreaking. Mesprit will also require a solid defensive core with blanket checks such as Palossand, Jellicent, and Weezing ready to cover the wide variety of threats capable of revenge killing Mesprit after minimal chip damage.

[OVERVIEW]
Mesprit stands as by far the most versatile Pokemon in the PU metagame thanks to its solid stat distribution and a wide support movepool with access to moves such as U-turn, Healing Wish, Trick, Nasty Plot, and Stealth Rock. This means that Mesprit will be a solid option whether you need speed control, a wincon, (np is much more of a wallbreaker) a Stealth Rock setter, or a wallbreaker, which also gives it a sense of unpredictability. (i mean, not rlly? its answers r always gonna be the same and it's sometimes easy to guess which set it is) Its ability, Levitate, also comes in handy as it makes Mesprit immune to all hazards bar Stealth Rock, allowing it to more easily spam U-turn. (just mention this in the opening sentence) While Mesprit can offensively check many Pokemon such as Weezing and Hitmontop, its mediocre Speed leaves it reliant on Choice Scarf to outspeed and KO Pokemon such as Virizion and Nasty Plot Toxicroak and even Speed tying with Choice Scarf Passimian. Mesprit's special coverage can be lacking at times, as Mesprit can struggle against Steel-types such as Silvally-Steel and Togedemaru.

another thing that should be mentioned somewhere in this overview is how its lack of recovery means it gets overwhelmed p fast at times. it also has ton of really good sets but it's not the best at anything it does; as a scarfer, u have other options like rat and passimian, as a bulky psychic, uxie is usually better, and other special sets suffer from competition from other special wallbreakers. obviously it's still really good, it's just often not the first choice on a lot of teams which makes it not /that/ splashable despite having multiple good sets which is, imo, its biggest issue. also if u're gna add this make it shorter lol, or highlight it in the sets

Choice Scarf lets Mesprit revenge kill Pokemon such as Virizion and +1 Dragon Dance Scrafty. (it's also a decent-ish cleaner) While Mesprit can hard switch in on certain moves like Passimian's Close Combat and Regirock's Body Press, Mesprit has to watch out for their other moves that can greatly damage or cripple it such as Passimian's Knock Off and U-turn and Regirock's Thunder Wave. Therefore, slow pivots such as Silvally-Fairy and Lanturn are great options for teammates as, even forming a Voltturn core with Mesprit. (i mean, this set mainly acts as a revenge killer, it doesnt really need mons bringing it in that much? i'd rather have u mention hwish abusers (which u do already a bit) and wallbreakers that can often soften up the opposing team's foes so it has decent shot at cleaning late-game) Both of these Pokemon also benefit from Mesprit's first option for the last slot, Healing Wish, as it can support them and their lack of recovery or other weakened teammates late game. This is ideally when Mesprit is also at low HP and offers little more. However, Trick can be run in this slot instead to cripple bulky Pokemon that otherwise wall Mesprit such as Vaporeon and Pokemon trying to set up such as Orbeetle. (orbeetle is kinda bad, feel like xatu would be a better example)

[SET COMMENTS]
Nasty Plot allows Mesprit to serve as either a sweeper to clean up the match or a wallbreaker weakening the opposing team for a teammate to more easily clean. (it'll rarely ever clean, its typing + speed tier leave it somewhat easy to revenge kill) Colbur Berry is the preferred item as it makes Mesprit harder to revenge kill by moves such as Absol's Sucker Punch and Sneasel's Knock Off while checking Fighting-types such as Toxicroak and Scrafty better, (well in the event that toxicroak is at +2 already, gunk shot kills) but Life Orb is another option for more damage output. Similarly, Timid makes Mesprit harder to revenge kill as it allows it to outspeed Pokemon such as Modest Magmortar and Timid Vanilluxe, but Modest can be run for again more damage output. (does this help against anything?) For the last slot, you can choose between Shadow Ball to hit opposing Psychic-types harder or Thunderbolt to hit most Steel-types and Vaporeon harder. (u dont need tbolt for vapo) If not running Thunderbolt, Mesprit can struggle to KO Steel-types such as Silvally-Steel and Galarian Stunfisk (me when i hit a ground type with an electric move) even at +2, so it is good for those to be taken out or greatly weakened beforehand. Good teammates for this include Magmortar and Passimian. Passimian also helps with Dark-types, which are a threat to Mesprit if not running Colbur Berry, and can lure in Pokemon like Weezing and Uxie, which Mesprit can use as setup fodder.

mons like ribombee have an easier time cleaning once steels / spdef walls are weakened

This set serves as an offensive and decently fast Stealth Rock setter, something lacking in the tier. This makes it less susceptible to Taunt from Pokemon like Whimsicott and lead Archeops. (how? idg this point here) Mesprit itself makes for a solid lead, getting up Stealth Rock as early as possible while being able to gain momentum with U-turn. (i have a p big issue with this part, it should really be highlighted how this set's main purpose is being a rocker that can pressure some removal options while also having a decent amount of defensive utility) It also has a good matchup against certain hazard removers such as Hitmontop and Golbat. Outside of serving as a Stealth Rock setter, the Psychic+Fairy coverage alongside a decent Special Attack allows Mesprit to serve as a good offensive threat. This alongside Stealth Rock makes setup sweepers such as Toxicroak and Ribombee appreciate Mesprit's ability to wear opposing teams down for them. (i mean yeah? but not rlly at the same time, it doesn't hit that hard and u're not gna do much progress against most spdef walls) (well the teammates part is awfully short tbh. mention how it fits well on more offensive teams n wallbreaker that appreciate rocks + pivoting)

[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Specs alongside Mesprit's solid Special Attack stat makes it able to hit like a truck. (not sure if this appropriate for analyses tbh) However, being choice locked leads to Mesprit being quite reliant on predictions or Pokemon like Sneasel and Weezing will be able to take advantage of it, depending on what move it's locked into. Mesprit has a few options for its last two slots, Shadow Ball is Mesprit's best way to hit Steel- and opposing Psychic-types, U-turn eases the reliance on predictions while gaining momentum in the process, and Trick can cripple switchins such as Articuno and Vaporeon. Even with Dazzling Gleam, Dark-types greatly hinder Mesprit's ability to freely spam Psychic, so a solid Dark-type answer such as Passimian and Silvally-Fairy (fairyvally has been mentioned a decent amount of times, replace w aromatisse) is important. Mesprit also promotes a lot of switching for the opponent, so hazard setters such as Froslass and Regirock also make for good teammates.

[SET COMMENTS]
While this set does receive a large amount of competition from Mesprit's own brother, Uxie, Healing Wish gives it enough of a niche to be a viable alternative option. Similar to Mesprit's offensive Stealth Rock set, it makes for a solid lead thanks to Stealth Rock+U-turn. However, this set is also able to defensively check various Pokemon such as Passimian and Silvally-Ground, although Mesprit has to keep mind how easily wornout it can be, especially by moves like Passimian's U-turn. (should mention how this makes it a not so reliable fighting-type answer in longer games) Mesprit is alsoable toserve (same) as a slow pivot, leaving the field after other pivots such as Silvally-Fairy (steelvally maybe? or togedemaru, which also has wish) and Assault Vest Lanturn. (lanturn also checks stuff like mag for mesprit) As previously stated, Healing Wish is the main selling point over Uxie, as it allows Mesprit to support teammates that are easily worn out throughout the match such as Toxicroak and Guzzlord. If your balance team consists of various of these while not being able to fit a Wish passer, Mesprit makes for a solid option.
considering this set's selling point is hwish, u should put more emphasis on that in the teammates options

Choice Scarf lets Mesprit revenge kill Pokemon such as Virizion and +1 Dragon Dance Scrafty. While Mesprit can hard switch in on predicted Fighting- and Ground-type moves like Passimian's Close Combat or Sandaconda's Earthquake it is usually a risky proposition because Mesprit can be easily crippled by other attacks like Knock Off or Glare not wrong but phrased weird. Slow pivots such as Silvally-Fairy and Lanturn are great options for teammates to bring Mesprit in safely and form a VoltTurn core, but even without slow pivots, Mesprit will generally find its way in as a revenge killer once a teammate has been KOed. Many different teammates appreciate Healing Wish support from Mesprit, from recovery-lacking wallbreakers like Centiskorch i feel like there are better breakers that come in/worn down more, maybe guzzlord here instead since centi takes like 1 hit to sweepers looking to set up twice such as Dragon Dance Scrafty. While this set does receive a large amount of competition from Uxie, Healing Wish gives it enough of a niche to be a viable alternative. Mesprit has to keep mind how easily it can be worn down, especially by pivoting moves like Passimian's U-turn and Basculin's Flip Turn. This prevents Mesprit from functioning as a reliable counter to Fighting-types, meaning you'll need additional counterplay such as Talonflame or Garbodor the 2nd and 3rd sentences might be better rephrased together. Mesprit's slow pivoting makes it a good partner for frail wallbreakers such as Archeops and Vanilluxe. As previously stated, Healing Wish is the main selling point over Uxie, as it allows Mesprit to support teammates that are easily worn out throughout the match such as Toxicroak and Guzzlord. Despite this set's defensive nature, it fits best on offensive teams that can make good use of Healing Wish and do not mind that Mesprit will likely only have one or two opportunities to do anything over the course of a game.

Mesprit's best qualities are its good speed for a Stealth Rock setter and a favorable matchup against several entry hazard removers such as Golbat and Hitmontop. However this set runs into extreme competition from Uxie, which is both faster and bulkier than Mesprit at the cost of being mildly less threatening due to its lower offenses and inability to bluff more threatening sets.(feels very weird to mention a defensive Mesprit set in the section about an offensive set)

[SET COMMENTS]

Shadow Ball is Mesprit's best way to hit Steel- and Psychic-types, U-turn eases Mesprit's reliance on predictions while gaining momentum in the process, and Trick can cripple switch-ins(AH) such as Articuno and Vaporeon. Choice Specs Mesprit is extremely prediction reliant,(AC) so having at least one of U-turn or and Trick can be vital for a safer option that does not leave Mesprit choice-locked Choice locked into an abusable exploitable attack. Even with Dazzling Gleam, Dark-types greatly hinder Mesprit's ability to freely spam Psychic, so a solid Dark-type answer such as Passimian and or Aromatisse is important. Mesprit is not the strongest wallbreaker around,(AC) so entry hazard setters such as Froslass and Regirock are advised to supplement its damage output. Weaker or non-boosting cleaners such as Dragon Dance Charizard and Alolan Exeggutor are ideal Pokemon to abuse make use of Mesprit's wallbreaking. Mesprit will also require a solid defensive core with blanket checks such as Palossand, Jellicent,(AC) or and Weezing ready to cover the wide variety of threats capable of revenge killing Mesprit after minimal chip damage.
