i heard the is a difference between the japanese play and americans play.
can some1 tell me what are the differences plz.
my friend told me something about

Americans=brute strength & Jap=style and strategy

what does that even mean???

i need more info on this plz help.

Americans tend to use strong sweepers like garchomp, salamence, etc. to try and kill their opponents as fast as possible.
The japanese players tend to use teams with more strategy, which I assume means they also are a bit more defensive.
Think america vs. japan=brawn vs. brains.

I'm guessing because Americans just got the game, and Japanese people have had it longer to spread out creative team ideas... on a very broad sense...

It shouldn't mean anything because the whole thing sounds like a stereotype ._.

Right. Americans play without any strategy at all; no Americans have made any competitive Pokemon websites or done any kind of metagame analysis or played in any tournaments or anything.

This is a silly topic. You can't reduce something like this to "brawn vs. brains", as if where someone lives on the planet dictates how they play in the game. Besides, there hasn't ever even been a true communication between American and Japanese players on any kind of large scale.

There isn't any kind of magic strategy that we're all missing, and I'd be willing to bet that if there is an online competitive scene in Japan, their style of play is remarkably similar to ours, simply because after some years of playing, there aren't many things that we could have possibly overlooked, and what works "here" is going to work "there" as well. It's the same game with the same mechanics in both countries, with intelligent people on both sides looking for what works.

I hope this doesn't turn in to an "lol americantz r dum" topic.

Yet another topic of everyone completely missing the point of what skarm was saying when he talked about that "brute force" vs "finesse" aspect of play. Closing this, tenchi17 said most of what I wanted to say.
