* Meteor Beam Lunala is an essential wallbreaker on Psyspam teams that works in conjunction with other Pokemon such as Meteor Beam Deoxys-A and Ultra Necrozma to overwhelm shared counterplay such as Arceus-Dark and Yveltal. Despite appearing to be a good option as a standalone wallbreaker for balance and bulky offense, it should only be used on Psyspam teams; without the full support of a Psyspam team, Meteor Beam Lunala is outclassed by other wallbreakers such as Eternatus and specially offensive Yveltal, which are more consistent and require little support to be effective wallbreakers. These Pokemon, Eternatus in particular, are substantially more difficult to revenge kill due to their defensive typing and higher Speed.
* Meteor Beam is used to OHKO Pokemon that would otherwise wall Lunala such as Yveltal and Ho-Oh. The Special Attack boost provided by Meteor Beam makes it difficult to check Lunala defensively; for example, defensive Primal Groudon and utility Arceus formes are 2HKOed by +1 Moongeist Beam, while defensive Primal Kyogre and Ho-Oh are 2HKOed by +1 Psyshock in Psychic Terrain.
* Moongeist Beam and Psyshock provide strong neutral coverage. Moonblast rounds out Lunala's moveset and makes Dark-types such as Yveltal, Arceus-Dark, and Chien-Pao hesitate to swith in. Psyshock is run over Psychic to enable Lunala to deal with special walls such as Ho-Oh and more niche Pokemon such as Chansey that shrug off Moongeist Beam.
* Lunala frequently utilizes Tera Fairy for defensive purposes and to wallbreak for its teammates. Tera Fairy enables it to effortlessly remove one of the biggest threats to Psyspam teams, Choice Scarf Yveltal. Since Yveltal poses no threat to it after Tera, Lunala can opt to OHKO with either Meteor Beam and get a boost or with Tera Fairy Moonblast after Stealth Rock. Additionally, +1 Tera Fairy Moonblast OHKOes utility Arceus-Dark after Stealth Rock.
* Lunala is best used as a mid-game wallbreaker. It often uses Tera Fairy to remove Pokemon that can be a headache to Psyspam teams, such as Yveltal, Arceus-Dark, and Marshadow. Using Tera to remove these threats is a worthwhile expenditure, as this often enables teammates such as Deoxys-A and Ultra Necrozma to sweep.
* Tapu Lele is a mandatory teammate to set Psychic Terrain. Tapu Lele's Moonblast also relieves Lunala of some of the burden of handling Dark-types such as Yveltal and Arceus-Dark. Glimmora is commonly used as a dedicated lead, as it can consistently set and remove entry hazards to keep Shadow Shield intact. Additionally, Smeargle and Shuckle can be used instead of or alongside Glimmora to provide Sticky Web support to enable Lunala to outspeed Pokemon such as Marshadow, Eternatus, and Zacian-C.
* Deoxys-A and Ultra Necrozma round out an offensive core that is difficult for many teams to withstand. Deoxys-A provides speed control to help with Pokemon such as Chien-Pao and Zacian-C, and it also provides a second Meteor Beam that can be useful in case Lunala misses or when the opposing team has multiple targets such as Ho-Oh and Yveltal. Ultra Necrozma adds a physical attacker and a potent win condition after a Dragon Dance. Furthermore, it has some resilience to Ditto, as it needs to be heavily chipped to be revenge killed. Additionally, Ditto makes an excellent teammate itself, as it can revenge kill boosted threats such as Dragon Dance Arceus-Ground and Rock Polish Primal Groudon, which can easily slice through Psyspam teams if given an opportunity to boost.
