This is a team Pokeaimmd used in his Road to UU top 10 series, shown here:
As such, there isn't really a teambuilding process, but I will detail why each member is important
Props to him for creating such an interesting team. As I went back looking through his videos, this team stuck out to me and I wanted to try it. I've been playing with it for a while on different accounts and I'm trying to find ways to make it better.
On to the individual members!
Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- U-turn
This is a pretty standard Hydriegon set and functions as part of the Dark-Spam core along with Zoroark. I've forgone a choice scarf set in favor of a Life Orb with U-Turn. Life allows me to stay in longer and generally do more damage to the opponent's team since Scarf Hydreigon is not that powerful. Draco Meteor and Dark Pulse are powerful stab moves, with Fire Blast for steel types. A Modest nature is used to get the maximum amount of damage since U-Turn isn't used for KO's 90% of the time anyway.
Zoroark @ Life Orb
Ability: Illusion
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Aerial Ace
- Swords Dance
Zoroark is the star of this team in my eyes. It is a very underrated threat in the meta game and most players are not prepared to deal with it and the mind the games it forces the opponent to go through. The individual moves on Zoroark are very important. Knock Off is simply for massive damage and to knock off items. Aerial Ace is my innovative decision as it allows Zoroark to OHKO Heracross and Chesnaught after a SD, which would normally counter Zoroark Completely. I originally ran Dread Plate, but Life Orb is needed to KO those 2 threats. As for how Zoroark should be played, i've found it's best to disguise Zorark as Hydreigon, as opponents will confuse the 2 since they both hold life orbs. Zoroark can also be disguised as Froslass if you do not lead with it, it discourages the opponent from going for fighting type moves.
Nidoqueen @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave/Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
Nidoqueen is used to lay lay down Stealth Rocks if Spikes happened to be spun/defogged away. The EV's are specified to outspeed most mega Blastoise. I've been struggling to decide whether Sludge Wave or Thunderbolt is better, Sludge Wave is stab, but Ice Beam hits most of the common threats harder anyway (Dragon types, Roserade, Bulky Grounds). Thunderbolt can also help this team deal with Bulky waters like Suicune and Blastoise.
Froslass @ Focus Sash
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Icy Wind
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Destiny Bond
Lead with Froslass most matches to set up Spikes, making it easier for the rest of the team to KO. This is a standard lead Froslass set, so there isn't much to say about it. Icy Wind is used over Ice Beam since it can slow down any threat if it doesn't get the chance to take it out with Destiny Bond. Froslass can saved for late game as a spinblocker and also to slow down opponents with Icy Wind. Really not much to say, set up Spikes and cripple one of the opponent's mons.
Pidgeot @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Work Up
- Refresh
- Roost
oml Pidgeot has become such a threat in UU. In just the past few weeks, people seem to have realized how good it can be in this tier. This spot originally went to Tornadus, as you can see in the video, but Pidgeot outclasses it in almost every way. It does lack Grass Knot, but after setting up a Work Up or 2, it can 2HKO the same Mons anyway. This is the best Pidgeot set to use, the Hurricane/Heat Wave set fails against this one as I can simply Roost and set up. This can set up on almost any special wall except Suicune, so be careful around that.
Darmanitan @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- U-turn
Scarf Darmanitan is here to provide the team with momentum, along with Hydreigon. Sheer Force boosted Flare Blitz annihilate things, such as opposing Mega Pidgeots, which i don't feel comfortable risking the speed tie with using my own. Darmanitan can also be led with if you want to preserve Froslass as a spinblocker.
Threat list:
Opposing Mega Pidgeot are almost impossible to stop if Darmanitan faints. Zoroark can't reliably hit it with Sucker Punch if it roosts and Knock Off doesn't do much. I don't like risking speed ties, so my best chance is to wear it down with Rocks.
I have no answer to bulky waters, even Pidgeot can't set up against Crocune. If I run Thunderbolt on Nidoqueen, they become easier to deal with, but i don't know if i want to run that over Sludge Wave...
Darmanitan can't 2HKO this thing, so it can stall out my team with Recover + Life Orb Recoil. My only hope is to Knock Off it's eviolite so I can KO it easier. By extension, CurseLax also qualifies as a threat.
What in the tier does this not threaten? It forces Pidgeot to stop mid sweep and can then proceed to boost its attack or Defog away my hazards. Even Darmanitan can't do much with Rock Slide, despite outspeeding.
There are more threats, but these have given me the most trouble since they stop any member of my team from sweeping
Final Words:
Thank you to Pokeaimmd for giving me the chance to use such a fun team!
Although Zoroark is the star of this team, I am willing to switch it out if something has the potential to work better, so don't be afraid to suggest it.
Importable:
