Mind Games

Hello. This is my RMT, and it is based around Pokemon with abilities to absorb, be boosted by, or nullify certain types of attacks. Prediction and covering for weaknesses is the name of this teams game. This is meant to be a balanced team. Here are the Pokemon - Donphan, Jellicent, Jolteon, Heatran, Virizion, Gyarados. Here are their uses on the team.

Donphan @ Leftovers
Ability - Sturdy
Nature - Adamant
EV's - 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin

Use on team: I chose an offensive Donphan because I thought it would be more useful to me than a defensive one, as Jellicent is my main physical wall. Donphan's primary job is to set up Stealth Rock. Sometimes, against certain enemies, I'll just start attacking right away while they set up or do whatever they do. It depends. His least used function (as he is usually dead by mid-late match) is Rapid Spin. However, I usually save him to spin if the opponent is going to use Toxic Spikes, which are particularly harmful to my team. Otherwise, if I feel the opponent is going to attack me with a powerful water move, I switch to Jellicent. Speaking of which...

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability - Water Absorb
Nature - Bold
EV's - 248 HP / 208 Def / 52 Spe
- Scald
- Will-o-Wisp
- Recover
- Taunt

Use on team: Jellicent is used to absorb water attacks directed at me. Prediction is usually easy, bar Rotom-W. Taunt is to help shut down those who would status me, or set up. Will-o-Wisp is to cripple physical attackers. Scald is for an attacking move, with a chance to burn. Recover is self-explanatory. Jellicent helps greatly for my team, as its walling abilities and great utility make it very useful. If I predict an electric attack coming my way, I will switch to Jolteon, my next Pokemon.

Jolteon @ Expert Belt
Ability - Volt Absorb
Nature - Timid
EV's - 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Use on team: Jolteon is my electric absorber. If Donphan is alive, he can also act as one, but generally he's not alive mid/late match. Jolteon has great speed and power, and I like to use Expert Belt to both bluff a choice item, and for the extra damage on Jolteon's nice coverage moves. He helps cover for both Jellicent and Gyarados.

Heatran.gif

Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability - Flash Fire
Nature - Modest
EV's - 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Flame Charge
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Use on team: Heatran is my fire absorber. He's powerful and can sweep teams if they don't have a counter for him. Air Balloon is to give me hopefully an extra turn to do something, such as Flame Charge to boost my speed and increase my likelihood of killing a couple Pokemon. The rest of the moves are just for power and coverage. I don't prefer Fire Blast because of the accuracy. If water/ground counters are gone, I can do a lot with Heatran. If someone wants to use fighting on him, I can go to either Jellicent or Gyarados.

Jellicent @ Life Orb
Ability - Justified
Nature - Hasty
EV's - 104 Atk / 152 SpA / 252 Spe
- Work Up
- Close Combat
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Use on team: Virizion is my makeshift Rotom-W check. Doesn't work all the time, but great speed and special defense, along with a Work Up and STAB super effective Giga Drain certainly help. Virizion is also the first of my Pokemon to help me against Blissey, Gyarados and Jellicent to an extent being the others. I use Life Orb and Hasty on my mixed set because I want to do more damage more quickly (and Giga Drain will heal more, anyways), and I want to be better able to sponge special attacks rather than strong physical ones. I have other Pokemon for physical attacks. Virizion is possibly the set I'm least comfortable with, but so far, she does her job well.

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability - Intimidate
Nature - Adamant
EV's - 176 HP / 128 Atk / 204 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge

Use on team: Gyarados is the third physical attacker on my team, which is necessary to have because of the teams struggles against stall and skarmbliss. Intimidate is great so that the opponent either doesn't switch and does less physical damage, or he does switch and I get a free Dragon Dance. He is my second taunt user to help shut down certain Pokemon such as Blissey and Skarmory. His biggest counters are those pesky steel types, especially Ferrothorn. I usually have to be the most careful with Gyarados, because he's needed to beat a lot of threats.

Conclusion: This team is fun because it relies on pretty good prediction skills to do well, but even if you predict wrong a couple times, it still has enough to win. Stall gives it trouble, as do normal, common threats to every team such as CS Terrakion, etc. Smart switches by the opponent are probably the most troublesome of all. I've only gotten it to about 1300 on Smogon server, but I'm still trying to change it to be better. Hopefully you guys can help me. Please keep in mind the spirit of the team when suggesting changes! Thanks.
