SV OU Mirror Coat Alomomola Stall (Peak 2003 ELO #19 and 31-2 83.5% GXE Kingambit Reqs)

:sv/alomomola: :sv/dondozo: :sv/blissey: :sv/ting-lu: :sv/corviknight: :sv/toxapex:

Hey guys! This is my first ever RMT, so I hope that it turns out to be readable. I would like to apologize in advance if it is hard to read, but here is the full RMT/guide for the team below, and I would also like to thank people below for making this team even remotely possible.
NOTE: The peak was achieved a while ago, but I never had time to push the RMT out. However, I still have the screenshot and game of peak and the screenshot of Kingambit requirements.

:alomomola:
Alomenheimer (Alomomola) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 36 HP / 252 Def / 220 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Whirlpool
- Mirror Coat
Surprisingly, a staple of all 6 :heavy duty boots: stall teams finds itself as the featured teammate.
However, this :alomomola: uses a move that I am sure that many have experimented with as a cheese gimmick, but I would like to share an EV spread that optimizes it for competitive use.
Mirror coat is actually our :heatran: answer, and the EV spread helps optimize it for all sorts of utility.
Switch in :alomomola: as :heatran: presumably clicks magma storm. The next turn, terastalize ghost and click whirlpool. Ideally, :heatran: clicks taunt, which allows you to mirror coat the following turn, severely crippling :heatran: in the case that it clicks earth power or outright KOing it should it click magma storm and land. However, if that does not go to plan, tera ghost allows you to bail into :ting-lu: and eat hits. It is important that :alomomola: is as close to maximum health as possible to get this interaction off.
Although it allows us to beat :heatran:, it also provides a ton of other utility, such as potentially stealing Pokémon should the opponent lack a good dark type to pivot out into and lose a potentially important Pokémon.
1693877785855.png
In addition, it is still an:alomomola:; it has a base 165 HP stat, which is not negligible and will still provide massive wishes for the team. 36 HP counteracts rounding, giving you an even HP stat for a clean 50% heal from wish and a number that is divisible by 3 for a clean regenerator heal as well. The Sp. Def. EVs allow you to better deal with :heatran: and even provides good bulk, living hits as strong as an offensive :zapdos:'s thunderbolt with a little HP to spare and mirror coating. :alomomola: is still a physical wall, however, so it needs maximum physical bulk. Tera ghost allows spin-blocking against :great tusk:. Tera ghost :alomomola: can even absorb volt switches from strong pivots such as :zapdos:, :sandy shocks:, and :rotom-wash:. Mirror coat :alomomola: has also been used by some of my other friends that I met in the Stall Empire server and it allowed them to have a built-in :heatran: check.

:dondozo:
Don Chi Minh (Dondozo) (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Avalanche / Waterfall
- Body Press / Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
A standard unaware physical wall for the team, :dondozo: has become a stall staple for all stall teams as reliable counterplay for :kingambit: and other strong setup physical Pokémon.
There is not much to say about :dondozo: other than it is :alomomola:'s best teammate to utilize wish, as :dondozo: lacks reliable recovery to sustain hits throughout the game. It also provides sufficient counterplay to non-:life orb:/:choice band: :baxcalibur: clicking glaive rush. You could potentially run tera fairy, but I think :corviknight: and tera fairy :toxapex: are sufficient enough to complete to :baxcalibur: counterplay.

:blissey:
von Blissmark (Blissey) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect / Heal Bell
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Calm Mind
As the primary special wall of the team, :blissey: sponges special attacks, whether it be :choice specs: or not. Calm mind is useful against setup attackers such as :gholdengo:, but otherwise it is a straight-forward :blissey:. However, should you choose to use a similar composition to the style I used when laddering, heal bell is an excellent move to provide extra longevity to both :ting-lu: and :dondozo: should they have to use rest, and the former especially since it is prone to sludge bomb poisons from :slowking-galar: when trying to absorb future sights with protect. However, SupaGmoney suggested that :blissey: herself would be a better future sight absorber, thanks to natural cure. Aside from that, :blissey: is more or less straightforward when it comes to stall.

Now that the "Big 3" of Scarlet and Violet OU stall have been covered, the next Pokémon will be personal additions to support this core that I think yield the most value.

:ting-lu:
Ting-Louis XIV (Ting-Lu) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 29 Spe
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock / Protect
- Rest
- Earthquake
The main hazard setter/future sight absorber for the team, :ting-lu: is an excellent addition thanks to its astounding mixed bulk and surprisingly strong earthquakes to provide lots of chip to force progress.
:ting-lu: gets access to both hazards and has an incredible typing to absorb volt switches from pokemon such as :zapdos:, :sandy shocks:, and even :rotom-wash: to an extent. How do we reliably deal with tera blast ice and especially the latter clicking hydro pump? This was briefly mentioned in the :alomomola: section and will also be covered in the :toxapex: section.
I would also like to bring attention to the impish (or +Def.) nature, which gives a 10% boost to :ting-lu:'s higher defense stat, allowing it to eat any sort of hit in a pinch and retaliate with a strong earthquake. It also helps a little bit more against the :ursaluna: matchup, allowing it to eat one guts boosted facade and chip it with earthquake.

:corviknight:
Corvrilo Princip (Corviknight) (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Defog
- Roost
Our only source of hazard removal and our primary form of hazard control, :corviknight: has become my favorite Pokémon to use on stall. The precious bird has a phenomenal typing, allowing it to check :ursaluna: and has enough speed to potentially check adamant :kingambit: if :dondozo: is unable to. In my opinion, good stall teams need some form of hazard removal and a knock off switch in (or at least some form of unique functionality, such as :ditto:, :moltres:, or :altaria:), and :corviknight: remedies the hazard removal part and is a solid switch in to knock off should there be no stealth rocker on the enemy's team. Iron defense allows the trick room matchup to become a lot more bearable, where after a few iron defenses, :corviknight: becomes near unkillable if the opponent does not have mystical fire :hatterene: or thunderbolt :hoopa-unbound:.

:toxapex:
Woahseph Stallin (Toxapex) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 18 Spe
- Poison Jab
- Recover
- Toxic
- Haze
The ol' reliable of stall, :toxapex: is a must-have on structures like the one I am featuring, especially one with tons of compression to deal with all sorts of threats. :toxapex: has become difficult to slot on many stall teams as of late, especially due to :toxapex: only enhancing/remedying all sorts of matchups that might have some source of counterplay to begin with while not contributing at all to the :heatran: matchup. However, because :heatran: is dealt with and because we have hazard removal in :corviknight:, we can complete the regenerator core with :toxapex:, who can also sponge lots of strong attacks. :toxapex:, due to having respectable special bulk as well, can switch into many attacks, such as :choice specs: :walking wake:'s hydro steam and can eat a draco meteor in a pinch, :dragapult:'s shadow ball and draco meteor in a pinch, :booster energy: :iron valiant:, and, with tera fairy, :toxapex: allows us to deal with mixed :hoopa-unbound: and can predict switch on :choice band:/:life orb: :baxcalibur: to get a toxic off. Tera fairy also allows :toxapex: to absorb volt switches from :sandy shocks: and :rotom-wash: effectively if :ting-lu: is unable to handle them. :toxapex: was also a natural fit because of its low HP to defensive stat ratio, making it benefit the most from :alomomola:'s wish should it need to be wished, especially since mirror coat :alomomola: has a smaller wish than normal.

Critical Matchups:
The whole point of mirror coat :alomomola: was to provide enough compression to deal with the widest range of threats possible, but there still are many threats to this team, which will be covered below.

Sun: Sun is actually not a terrible matchup for this team, as the core of :blissey:, :toxapex:, and :corviknight: can deal with most threats (just be careful of tera blast fire :brute bonnet: and :lilligant-hisui:, those are rough matchups and require more prediction, which I would recommend trying to get a toxic off with :toxapex: after baiting spore/sleep powder should either of these Pokémon have it). :blissey: can tera water if :walking wake: becomes problematic and even :alomomola: can try to steal almost all of :torkoal:'s HP with whirlpool and tera ghost early on (a sun team without :torkoal: is near useless). :dondozo: might not be the most useful Pokémon in the matchup, but it can tera fighting to deal with physical grass types that may have accumulated too much strength, as well as being able to sit on a potential :kingambit: that you might see.

:gholdengo: Hazard Stack: This is not an easy matchup by any means. In order to beat structures like this, I would recommend stacking all the hazards you can (despite almost the entire opposing team having :heavy duty boots:; it helps against :gholdengo:, allowing you to wear it down faster). You can try to absorb knock off on :alomomola: or even :corviknight:, depending on how much pivot your opponent has. :meowscarada: with stealth rock support is probably one of the worst variants of hazard stack teams because she forces a knock off on :corviknight: and wears :corviknight: down with u-turn; try to wish pass :corviknight: if possible with a prediction.

Psyshock :gholdengo:: There is no way to know if :gholdengo: has psyshock unless you know the team beforehand. If you know the team beforehand, just try to wear it down with :ting-lu:, maybe attempting to pop the :air balloon: as well if needed. You realistically will not win this matchup most of the time, unfortunately, unless you bait the :gholdengo: into attacking your mirror coat :alomomola:. You could try to build your team around :clodsire: over :ting-lu: if psyshock on :gholdengo: becomes too popular, however.

Nasty Plot :hoopa-unbound:: Like psyshock :gholdengo:, this is another matchup you will realistically not win unless you know the set beforehand. If you do, try to wear it down with :ting-lu:, potentially tera'ing fairy to absorb a hit to get off another earthquake.

Stall Mirror: Try to be a good person and agree to a draw, but if they don't agree to a draw, use :corviknight: to switch in on their hazard setter and defog whenever the opponent gets 2 spikes up. Let :alomomola: (and even :toxapex: if needed) get knocked and convince your opponent that this matchup is not feasibly winnable.

(Aside from misplaying a turn, I still like this replay because every time :zapdos: got whirlpooled, :zapdos: had to burn roosts and tera blasts in order to not get knocked out by a mirror coat)

I would also like to add that you could modify the team to slot :clodsire: depending on the current trends of ladder.

Now that the RMT is coming to an end, I would like to give a special thanks to SupaGmoney for helping me smooth out the team and make it more consistent. I would also like to thank the Stall Empire server for helping me become a better stall player. Lastly, I would like to thank you for reading this RMT and making it through to the end of my first RMT, especially since I don't actually know how to make a good RMT just yet.

The featured replays section is now out! There are not many replays because I did not save that many, but I hope these replays get the general idea across of mirror coat :alomomola:'s potential when it comes to matchups! This section may be edited with more replays if I find any more good ones.

Dear quacc, this RMT and team has opened my eyes to the world of competitive pokemon. I now realize that stall is the way to go. It is 100% skill as you need to play well unless you get crit. Then you're fucked. Anyways, I used to be a HO scrub praying on 50/50s and Booster Energy Iron Valiant. Now I realize that this stall team beat them all. The way this team is build to its core, the though put into this as a whole is incredible. I shall convert from a HO scrub to a Stall Gigachad and crush my opponents mentally and get lots of death threats. Great work again!

P.S. Why didn't you release this team sooner as the meta is coming to an end soon. And I can't climb :/

P.P.S. How do you think stall is going to do in the dlc?

Hey there! I am glad you find more defensive teams to be more reliable. Anyways, I am more than willing to answer your questions.

P.S. Why didn't you release this team sooner as the meta is coming to an end soon. And I can't climb :/

Unfortunately, I did not post the RMT earlier because of OLT. This team has great matchups but struggles to counter-team attempts badly because of the use of :ting-lu: over :clodsire:. :clodsire: is perfectly viable, but I think :ting-lu: solidifies the :heatran: matchup well. If you are willing to exchange :clodsire: for :ting-lu: to limit counter-team occurrences, feel free to do so! My main recommendation would be to run earthquake on :dondozo: over body press if you do that, however. Once OLT was over, however, I got busy with school and other work, so I could neither play as many games as I used to nor push out the RMT as early as I would have liked. I still decided to post the RMT because I think it is still a solid team to close out the metagame with and also another reason that bleeds into your second question:

P.P.S. How do you think stall is going to do in the dlc?

Firstly, I would like to twist the question just a bit to focus on mirror coat :alomomola: just for a fun theory question. I think mirror coat :alomomola: could be a viable set on teams if any of the following happens: scald gets limited redistribution, toxic gets limited redistribution, and :alomomola: does not get flip turn. If :alomomola: gets scald, it can still run mirror coat, but you don't get the easy kill confirm with the whirlpool + mirror coat combination. However, it could be an interesting option to force certain Pokémon out, such as :zapdos:. If toxic gets redistributed, :alomomola: would simply have more options but would not take away from the existing set. The last move, which would be the most interesting to look at, is flip turn, because it would mean you have a built-in :heatran: check by flip turning out on the magma storm. This probably would be the nail in the coffin for mirror coat :alomomola: unless :zapdos: + :heatran: cores become popular. The EV spread, however, would definitely be usable and potentially good for the meta. Going back to the main question, I think stall has a place post-DLC, but it comes down to how restricting is :gholdengo: on the building process to deal with all the new threats. Without good defensive items such as :leftovers: or :rocky helmet:, some threats could get out of hand, but we will have to wait and see on that one! Also, I feel like the return of :gliscor:, :crawdaunt:, and :clefable: to an extent would provide practical problems for stall. :gliscor: and :clefable: are nearly unkillable, but at least :clefable: is not a threat without knock off. However, :gliscor: learns knock of via level-up and therefore would likely not lose it. If :crawdaunt: keeps knock off, that would also be an issue, despite stall getting :dondozo: as a great way to deal with :crawdaunt:.
:gholdengo:
Despite the new threats, a lot of interesting Pokémon could be used as well, such as :clefable: as a knock absorber with magic guard and :mandibuzz: for defog support and great overall bulk, typing, and movepool.
:mandibuzz: gets toxic, roost, knock off, foul play, and defog by level-up, meaning that she would likely keep these moves.
The last thought I would like to tack onto the question is the rise of semi-stall/fat teams. With :rillaboom: getting grassy glide back, we may even see :rillaboom: fat cores to help replenish the loss of leftovers on our walls, potentially using :magnezone: to support :rillaboom: as well! :gliscor:, despite likely using roost, could potentially use a set of substitute, protect, knock off, and earthquake with a toxic orb to harass the opponent's team a bit as well. Maybe the metagame would be able to see more balanced cores, but again, with a lot of knock off users coming in the DLC, we will have to see the impact of :gholdengo: on the hazard removal crisis.
