Mix It Up A Little

Team Building Process

So a friend and I got bored and decided to build a team based around Mega Charizard X. We have not gotten around to learning any of the other mega evolution pokemon so what better way than to experiment with them and test their capabilities. I wanted to give the DDance set a chance because I've always had a thing for sweepers that can destroy everything in their wake once they set up.

We decided that Azumarill could deal with most of the pokemon that Charizard couldn't kill comfortably plus this little bundle of joy just seems to be like a beast.

mandibuzz.png

We wanted something to get rid of SR because of the obvious hindrance of multiple Charizard switch ins. Mandibuzz seemed to be quite good when we were up against it so we decided to try it out, and it doubled as a wallbreaker because of Taunt.

conkeldurr.png

Conkledurr is just a powerhouse and AV just increased it's overall survivability. Conkledurr gave me checks to multiple pokemon such as Aegislash, Heatran, Rotom-W, etc. He also provides added bulk towards the team.

aegislash.png

We added Aegislash because we had no idea what it did and wanted to see what all the buzz was about.

mamoswine.png

Mamoswine was added because we wanted a way to set-up SR and use focus sash endeavor shenanigans

latias.png

Mandibuzz was replaced with Latias because we had no consistent check to Rotom-W aside from Conkledurr but he was having to support too much of the team and we needed to make the rest of our team hold some of their own as well.

Talonflame was added over Mamoswine because we had no reliable way to check Breloom who was consistently putting us in difficult situations.

The Team [For Now]

Charizard (M) @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Outrage
- Roost

Mega Charizard X is an absolute powerhouse and is decently bulky which ended up being the central focus of the team. The EV Spread is completely standard because he is a physical sweeper, hear him roar. Roost was chosen over Earthquake because it allows Charizard to come in under SR and threaten with an OHKO on a pokemon; then mega evolving into Roost on the switch putting it back into optimal health for the late game.

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Superpower
- Waterfall

Azumarill is a beast because of it's brand new Fairy typing just allowing it to threaten many of larger threats of OU. We have no idea about the EVs we just wanted it to hurt things when it came in, and I am currently considering switching from Jolly to Adamant since most of the pokemon that can check him usually run enough Speed EVs to outspeed anyways. Aqua Jet is standard priority stab to revenge and weaken hinderances to Charizard's sweep, Play Rough because Fairy, and the last two moves Superpower and Waterfall is to check Ferrothorn and for a harder hitting STAB move; Return is being considered over Waterfall though.

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Defog
- Healing Wish
- Psyshock

Latias is my gal just being so obnoxiously bulky while still packing a huge punch. EV Spread causes it to be more a suicide bomber. Mainly trying to stay alive just so it can check Rotom-W, being able to Defog away SR and to Healing Wish another pokemon which threatens their team back to full health.

Aegislash @ Life Orb
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
- Shadow Sneak
- Flash Cannon

This thing is a crazy sword shield whatever but man it destroys a whole lot of things with Shadow Ball and Shadow Sneak. EV spread is to maximize overall bulk and to hit as hard as possible. King's Shield is crazy good like what even man, a Protect that lowers Attack on contact? Yes. please. Lastly Flash Cannon is being tested because Sacred Sword is doing nothing and generally speaking Conkledurr provides enough fighting type moves to the team. 0 IVs in speed is to ensure that it is slower than opposing Aegislash.

Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- U-turn

Talonflame was legitimately added in purely to deal with Breloom because that guy just tears a hole into this team. Again standard EV spread and standard moveset.

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 4 Spd / 252 Atk / 252 HP
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Knock Off
- Mach Punch

This guy is the heart and soul of the team, honestly it has secured more wins than the objective sweeper of the team itself. The boost to Knock Off in this generation just destroys a lot of common things while simultaneously breaking up walling abilities of pokemon. Guts pretty much ensures that it cannot be crippled by normal standards and Assault Vest was a blessing from the pokemon gods themselves tailored specifically for Conkledurr to reign fury down on everything.
