[SET]
Kommo-o @ Expert Belt
Name: Mixed Wallbreaker (Dragon)
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 92 Atk / 164 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Close Combat
- Clanging Scales
- Flamethrower
- Vacuum Wave
[SET COMMENTS]
With its decent mixed offensive prowess, Kommo-o can use a mixed set with Close Combat to put more pressure on the defensive cores of opposing Steel, Dark, and Dragon teams. Close Combat pulverizes Hisuian Goodra, Heatran, Ting-Lu, and Empoleon that otherwise can try and scout other Kommo-o sets. Close Combat also deals with Scrafty, which is troublesome for most Dragon teams. Clanging Scales punishes switch-ins like Dragapult, Sableye, and Archaludon, 2HKOing the last two defensive walls. Flamethrower deals with Steel team's switch-ins in Skarmory and Gholdengo. Vacuum Wave picks off faster threats like Meowscarada and Greninja. 92 Atk EVs coupled with Expert Belt ensures Kommo-o OHKOes Hisuian Goodra with Close Combat. A Rash nature is preferred, as it lets Kommo-o 2HKO non-specially defensive Gholdengo with Flamethrower and reduces the prior damage needed for Vacuum Wave to KO Hisuian Samurott and Greninja late-game.
Mixed Kommo-o struggles with bulkier defensive cores such as those of Flying and Water teams, and it is unable to 2HKO specially defensive Corviknight, so wallbreakers such as Choice Specs Dragapult and Latios make for great teammates. Dragapult also deals with faster threats like Choice Specs Flutter Mane and non-Choice Scarf Iron Valiant and loves Kommo-o's ability to punch through special walls like Ting-Lu and Hisuian Goodra. Latios deals with Poison-types like Clodsire and pressures Flying and Fighting teams. It can even run Flip Turn if using a Choice Scarf to pivot Kommo-o in against Ting-Lu, Empoleon, and Gholdengo, all of which check Latios. Both of them appreciate Kommo-o's ability in Bulletproof, as it covers for their weakness to Shadow Ball. Kyurem and Raging Bolt devastate the defensive cores of Water and Flying teams and love Kommo-o's ability to remove their checks in Iron Treads, Ting-Lu, and Empoleon. Kyurem deals with Clodsire, while Raging Bolt zaps Corviknight and Toxapex for Kommo-o. Hisuian Goodra and Archaludon are notably not weak to any of Dragon's weaknesses, with Hisuian Goodra dealing with Primarina, Flutter Mane, and Greninja and Archaludon covering for physical threats like Roaring Moon and Meowscarada. Hisuian Goodra can also use Knock Off to remove items from walls, allowing Kommo-o to plausibly 2HKO specially defensive Corviknight after Stealth Rock. Archaludon also provides Stealth Rock, which help chip down speedy threats to the point where Kommo-o can safely remove them with Vacuum Wave. Choice Scarf Roaring Moon deals with faster threats like non-Choice Scarf Dragapult and Flutter Mane, and it also pivots Kommo-o in against walls like Skarmory. Swords Dance Garchomp appreciates Kommo-o's ability to break down Steel and Dragon teams, which paves a way for Garchomp to sweep. It also deals with Volcarona and Articuno, which wall Kommo-o. Other setup sweepers like Dragonite benefit from Kommo-o breaking its checks in Skarmory and Archaludon.
