XY Doubles Mixed Rain Team (For Local Tournaments)

So guys in my local area we are getting close to regionals and premier challenges I need a team thats good for the meta. So I just picked one of my favorite strategies Rain but i needed coverage so lets get into it
politoed.jpg

Politoed @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Focus Blast
- Encore
The moveset is pretty standard ice beam for dragon mons scald for 100% accuracy and burns focus blast for t-tar and norms, encore over protect is for people who try to set up on the toed, I'm not sure whether to run choice scarf/ Damp Rock so please let me know if its a good/bad idea
ludicolo.jpg

Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Giga Drain
- Ice Beam/Psychic
- Fake Out

Ludicolo is my Number Juan pokemon on this team...... I'm sorry for the awful/ mildly offensive pun but anyway he is a big part. Swift swim makes him pretty good on a rain team and his moveset is ok. Hydro Pump helps me 2HKO t-tar when he's in the sand, which scald doesnt. Giga Drain is a good stab and negates life orb recoil, I cannot chose between ice beam and psychic, Ice helps with flymons but i already pack the ice beam on poli, Psychic helps me with nearly the same things aka Venusaur and Amoonguss who like to punish my over predictions.

rotom.jpg

Rotom-Heat @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Overheat
- Thunder
- Volt Switch
- Trick

This is where things get tricky..... I just can't stop I'm sorry. Ok since this is sort of a rain team rotom heat is hindered. Overheat can no longer OHKO Venusaurs if the rain is up, so you have to play around a little. Thunder helps sometimes with that additional power and volt switch is good just to keep up the momentum. Trick is to keep physical attackers and hazard setters from doing a whole lot

mawile.jpg

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Protect

Mega Mawile is just fun to use, as long as it doesn't get knocked out seven times over by a Zard Y so thats why its here on a rain team (and yeah I know mega zard can still one shot in the rain) The set is completely standard for Mega Mawl Play Rough is a good stab as is iron head, my team is lacking priority so sucker punch is always good, protect is just protect.

salamence.jpg

Salamence @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge

Salamence is good with Mawile, Double intimidate is also good.
I made him mixed cuz i only have one other physical attacker, I didnt want to make him hasty but I had to considering.
gengar1.jpg

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 28 HP / 148 SpA / 80 SpD / 252 Spe
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute

I did not know what to put in this spot so i chose gengar his moveset isnt great but I am open to suggestions, sorry my last two descriptions were so short accidentally posted it. Shadow ball is a good stab and so is sludge will-o is good for physicals and if i can hide behind a sub Gengar will have some fun.

I hope for lots of feedback and I don't mind changing anything on my team I just want to maximize the team to the fullest! Thanks for taking your time to RMT :)

I guess I'll start from the top and work my way down, because there are several tweaks that can be made to improve your team

In general, you should have more than one Rain setter on this team. Politoad is great for setting it up initially, but chances are he won't last very long. And when he eventually gets knocked out, your team could be in deep trouble.

I think Damp Rock on Politoad is a good idea. You really need that rain to last as long as possible. I would also invest 252 EV's into HP on him, and 4 into Speed. you'll need him to last a long time.

Assault Vest > Life Orb on Ludicolo. It'll really help him out for Ice and Electric attacks. And I would personally pick Ice Beam > Psychic for that third moveslot.

I would seriously consider replacing Rotom. Fire types on a rain team in general are just a bad idea. May I suggest something with Dry Skin like Helioisk or Toxicroak? Helioisk could ultilize Surf and Thunder, while Toxicroak could take out Fairies and deal with Mega Kanga. However both don't have great defenses. Perhaps you could also replace him with a Lightningrod like Marowak. That would really help out Ludicolo and Politoad, as well as take out Electric threats.

Thats all I have for now, good luck with your team!

I would suggest swapping Rotom-H for A bulky Thundy spread.

(Thundurus) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 212 HP / 128 Def / 52 SpA / 96 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt/Thunder wave
- Rain Dance

It can stand up to a rock slide from Lando-T and hit back with HP Ice, use rain dance to help you late/early game and in weather wars.

Also here is a decent Ludi spread for Assault Vest;

Ludicolo @ Assault Vest
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fake Out
- Hydro Pump
- Giga Drain
- Ice Beam

Spacebass's ideas are great and i would strongly consider you use them, instead of that thundurus i'd use therian:

Taste the Rainbow (Thundurus-Therian) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 32 HP / 252 SpA / 224 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunder
- Volt Switch
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

I use this guy and he works really well! With scarf you outspeed most relevent threats so he's a great poke to eliminate threats to your team

Now about politoed I'd reccomend replacing focus blast with helping hand that extra power on one of your moves is sometimes enough to secure a win.

Only don't listen to Spacebass or Qwerty, since you stated earlier your team is for regionals and premiere challenges I would assume you're playing for VGC? If that's the case you got your tag mixed up.

Anyway, if you're having issues beating Venusaur under rain you should consider adding a psychic type to your team though I know the Kalos dex is limited on that end. One thing you might consider is a Gardevoir, which also compliments your team by being able to switch in on Fairy and Psychic type moves that threaten Salamence and Gengar. Though if I was mistaken in assuming it's VGC, Latios or Latias work excellently on Rain teams.

p.s nice thundurus qwerty :p
