AAA MLG Money Man (MGLO Gholdengo) [GP 1/1]

[SET]
Magic Guard (Gholdengo) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Steel Beam
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball / Hex
- Recover / Focus Blast / Thunder Wave

[SET COMMENTS]
Magic Guard Gholdengo is an extremely powerful special wallbreaker that takes advantage of Nasty Plot, Life Orb, and Steel Beam, the latter two without recoil, to overwhelm special walls. Shadow Ball provides excellent neutral coverage, hitting Manaphy, Hisuian Goodra, and Empoleon. Hex is an alternative with Toxic Debris or other status support and bypasses Bulletproof. Recover gives Gholdengo the ability to heal off damage taken while setting up, as well as simply giving it the longevity to attack the opponent's team throughout the battle. Alternatively, Focus Blast hits Steel-types like Heatran and Hisuian Goodra, while Thunder Wave slows down faster attackers like Iron Moth and Roaring Moon that try to threaten Gholdengo while powering up Hex to break down bulkier Pokemon like Manaphy. Gholdengo's ability to beat down balanced cores with the sheer strength of Steel Beam benefits faster cleaners like Barraskewda, Chien-Pao, and Choice Scarf Azelf and Walking Wake. If Gholdengo runs Thunder Wave, it can also support other offensive Pokemon that appreciate faster attackers getting slowed down, such as Great Tusk, Ceruledge, and Dragonite. However, Gholdengo is vulnerable to faster Dark-types like Chien-Pao and Weavile, so Pokemon that can check them like Corviknight and Quaquaval are appreciated. Corviknight can even safely bring in Gholdengo with its U-turn. Additionally, if Gholdengo is not using Thunder Wave and Hex, RegenVest users like Manaphy and Meloetta completely wall it, so Pokemon that beat them with super effective STAB moves or physical attacks like Desolate Land Ogerpon-H and Roaring Moon are appreciated.

Magic Guard allows Gholdengo to spam its most powerful Steel STAB attack, Steel Beam, without the recoil that it would otherwise take. Magic Guard also pairs well with Life Orb, powering up Gholdengo's attacks without any of the recoil that Life Orb also would cause. With these two in conjunction with Nasty Plot, Gholdengo becomes an extremely powerful special wallbreaker Gholdengo is an excellent special wallbreaker taht takes advantage of Nasty Plot and drawback-free Life Orb and Steel Beam to overwhelm special walls. Shadow Ball, while noticeably weaker than Steel Beam in terms of power, has better neutral and super effective coverage than Steel Beam. However, Hex can be used if Gholdengo is paired with teammates that spread status, such as Toxic Debris Great Tusk, Garchomp, and Ribombee, Zapdos, and No Guard Gengar provides excellent neutral coverage, hitting Manaphy, Hisuian Goodra, and Empoleon; Hex is an alternative with Toxic Debris or other status support. Recover gives Gholdengo the longevity to repeatedly barrage the opponent's team with its powerful attacks. Alternatively, Focus Blast hits Steel-types like Heatran and Zamazenta-C super effectively, while Dazzling Gleam hits Dragon-types like Walking Wake, Dragonite, and Kommo-O. Both coverage moves also deny safe switch-ins from Dark-types like Roaring Moon, Chien-Pao, and Weavile. Recover provides extra setup opprotunites, while Focus Blast provides coverage for Heatran and Zamazenta-C and Dazziling Gleam can reliably KO Roaring Moon and Walking Wake. Maximum Speed and a Timid nature lets Gholdengo outrun Dragonite and Heatran, two foes who can threaten Gholdengo. don't need to explain max / max investment However, Gholdengo can run a set with 224 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 28 Spe with a Modest nature, which gives Gholdengo extra bulk to better take hits from powerful attackers like Ogerpon-C and Azelf while still outrunning minimum Speed Great Tusk and even making Gholdengo more powerful than before. This slower, bulkier investment means that Gholdengo no longer outspeeds Pokemon that it could with maximum Speed investment, so it appreciates paralysis support from spreaders like No Guard Zapdos. bulkier spreads are better handled by the defensive set Gholdengo's ability to beat down balanced cores with the sheer strength of Steel Beam benefits faster cleaners like Barraskewda, Zamazenta-C, and Choice Scarf Azelf and Walking Wake. Additionally, RegenVest Manaphy is a unique threat that completely walls this Gholdengo set, so Pokemon that beat Manaphy such as Zapdos and Desolate Land Ogerpon-H are great partners.

Corviknight can even safely bring in Gholdengo with its U-turn. Additionally, RegenVest Manaphy is a unique threat that completely walls this Gholdengo set, so Pokemon that beat Manaphy such as Zapdos and Desolate Land Ogerpon-H are great partners. Hex provides enough power for Gholdengo to brute force through Manaphy so consider revising this statement for RegenVest mons in general like Meloetta.

GP Team done

Gholdengo's ability to beat down balanced cores with the sheer strength of Steel Beam benefits faster cleaners like Barraskewda, Chien-Pao, and Choice Scarf Azelf, (comma) and Walking Wake.
I intended this to mean both Choice Scarf Azelf and Choice Scarf Walking Wake; do you want me to say "Choice Scarf Azelf, and Choice Scarf Walking Wake" instead?
