Hey ubers folks, mai pearl here. Those of you who frequent the ubers room may know me as that one dude who always used that mega kangaskhan team way back when and now uses that cloyster tspikes team all the time. And rages when he sees defog ekiller :].

Anywho, I’ve been meaning to make a second rmt for a while but the teams I built either involved cores so similar to others that it would seem like plagiarism or were so forced to be original that they ended up being utterly bad (I have a team with ursaring and slurpuff, for example). But I figured this would be as good a time as any because I’m retiring from play until at least sun and moon. I’ll still hang around if I have absolutely nothing to do, but basically the game has cost me too of a headache and not enough satisfaction to justify the time I invest in it, and I’ll be starting my Master’s program soon so that will be my main focus for the time being. I will probably return in November for sun and moon if it can keep my interest but that’s a big if. So consider this my parting gift: a relaxed, very shitty but pretty fun mono-ground team!

In-depth

excadrill.gif

Excadrill @ Focus Sash
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Rapid Spin

Excadril serves as my lead, getting up rocks with decent reliability due to mold breaker and focus sash. Though mega sableye has faded a bit in usage, diancie ho-oh balance is still alive and kicking, against which this can set up rocks at least once and possibly toxic the defogger. The moveset is pretty elementary: rocks are rocks, eq for stab, toxic to wear down arceus and the like, spin to clear hazards. It’s a simple, but solid mon.

groudon-primal.gif

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 56 Atk / 252 SpA / 144 SpD / 56 Spe
Mild Nature
- Rock Polish
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge
- Precipice Blades

Opting for the hyper offense route (because really what else am I going to do with mono-ground?), I chose this groudon set because of its ability to surprise kill or soften up a variety of pokemon that other members have trouble dispatching, such as defensive yveltal, lugia after rocks, skarmory/ferro, etc. It can also function as an effective cleaner under the right conditions. The evs are updated to the standard spread, letting me soft-check xern and have a good amount of power on both sides. The main change here is that I nixed dragon pulse for stone edge. Personal preference and you can change it if you want, but I can’t stand the sheer concept of a groudon walled by ho-oh, nor do I find hitting mence or giratina (the former of which is 2hko’d by fire blast after rocks anyway) worthy of the move slot. That aside, this set is a solid member of the team and a good threat in general that people should really bring back.

arceus-ground.gif

Arceus-Ground @ Earth Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Extreme Speed/Gravity

A mono ground team wouldn’t be complete without the second best ground mon in the tier (arguably the game), groundceus. For this team’s purposes, I again opted for a more offensive route with extreme speed over recover to let me pick off mons like deoxys and do a bit of chip to faster threats. It also helps me combat ekiller a bit better, since landorus is my only real soft check. If you’re feeling a bit ballsier, gravity is a cool option that I’ve tried out against some fatter teams that supports other members and gives a means to hit bronzing, but that’s generally not as useful since this team has groudon and a few other members to handle that.

gastrodon.gif

Gastrodon @ Assault Vest
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Clear Smog
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Mirror Coat

Having a mono ground team requires a secondary ogre check, and my team was also sorely lacking a pivot and xern check. Enter: assault vest Gastrodon! Seriously, I’m not kidding. This guy has deceptively good 426/443 special bulk with an assault vest and can check a lot of threats with mirror coat. For example

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Gastrodon: 249-294 (58.4 - 69%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Mega Gengar Hex (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Gastrodon: 142-168 (33.3 - 39.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after poison damage

252+ SpA Life Orb Deoxys-A Psycho Boost vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Gastrodon: 227-269 (53.2 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+1 252+ SpA Primal Kyogre Blizzard vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Gastrodon: 138-163 (32.3 - 38.2%) -- 97.7% chance to 3HKO

Delicious :]

The move set is a bit wonky but each one fits. Mirror coat is the primary weapon for this, allowing it to check non-dark, non-grass move special attackers pretty well if it’s kept healthy enough. Ice beam is there to prevent mence or rayquaza from setting up, and clear smog prevents other mons like arceus from doing so. Scald is there almost exclusively to thaw gastrodon out if it gets frozen by a kyogre or kyurem, and it can also burn something. Gastrodon was obviously nowhere near its gen 5 and XY usefulness but it fits awesomely on this team and I like it.

mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Oblivious
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- Icicle Crash

Mamoswine functions on this team as a much needed mence and rayquaza answer, while still hitting decently hard with a stab EQ and icicle crash. EVs are standard with adamant nature for the added power, since you don’t outspeed much with jolly anyway and ice shard compensates. Superpower was chosen as the last move to hit ekiller and ferrothorn harder so that other mons can pick them off. Not much else to say about this mon but it’s definitely something worth trying out.

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Explosion
- Stone Edge

Last and probably simplest mon on the team, scarfed landorus-t provides a revenge killer, intimidate mon, u-turn pivot, and ground immunity in one package. I don’t know why it’s still so uncommon on ladder nowadays; even in ubers it’s more than able to carry its weight. Anyway, this moveset again needs little explanation but I’ll give it regardless. EQ is mandatory stab, u-turn provides momentum and hits psychics + darkrai, stone edge hits burds (mostly ho-oh), and explosion lets it get off a last ditch super hit to dent or kill something and bring another mon in safely. Good coverage, good power, excellent ability, excellent mon.

Threatlist:

This team is primarily for shits and giggles, so you’ll have a lot of poor matchup regardless, but here are a few of the biggest ones to look out for.

Grass knot geoxern: 6-0’s basically, very little counter-play if groudon is weakened.

Darkrai: Checkable with lando + priority, but I’m not willing to put sleep talk on it so the lack of an absorber is rough.

Lugia: If it gets back up to multiscale, there’s not much to break it. Toxic on mamoswine can work I suppose.

Probably a ton of others but I’m too lazy to think right now so yeah

Replays aren’t working for me right now but I’ll update that later when I can.

Shoutouts:
I don’t really know too many people personally but I’ve had a blast in this room, and like I said I’ll probably still lurk from time to time if I have absolutely nothing going on, but anyway.

Pohjis: Had a lot of fun playing against you early on with that greninja team.

Darrell1297: Thanks for a few of those teams and for being a good opponent in tours :]

Lord Outrage: Thanks for the rate on my first team, I improved it a lot.

Magsy: Your memes are great man

Aberforth: Played you once or twice on your youtube videos, and learned a great deal about the meta from them. Keep up the awesome work

Wfuu: I don’t know if you’re even on here but thanks for giving me immense satisfaction every time I beat that garbage ingrain xern.

Antacool: stay innovating my man J

MrJamvad: you stay the uber master

Everyone else, if I missed you, thanks a million. Mai out!

I know this is mostly a fun team but you get 6-0ed pretty effortlessly by standard Arceus-Water, it walls everybody and Gastrodon will simply succumb to Toxic as it can't do anything back. You could consider changing Groudon to a Paradancer set, which would help your team break Lugia and Arceus-Water a bit more easily.

Don't think there's much else you can do without ruining the theme of the team, have fun!

yeah that's true too. I have tried things like solar beam mixed don or double dance and they do work on the team as well. Not fond of paradance but that has merit too. Like I said this is pretty much only for bants so anything works
