I'm going to be the Poison leader for my university's Pokemon club gym circuit. Rules are pretty much the same as Smogon for Pokebank OU. No Mega Gengar, hence why mine has a Life Orb instead. The challengers will know my roster, but not my moves, items, etc. I won't know their roster.
Scolipede @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Protect
- Baton Pass
- Megahorn
Scolipede's job is to first and foremost lay down TS. In the event it doesn't seem worthwhile, either Protect to get a speed boost to pass or Megahorn if I feel like it can OHKO (hasn't failed against Greninja if it still has dark-typing). Liechi is an extra bonus if I can pass it off after surviving a big hit.
Drapion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Earthquake
My primary mauler. Helps a lot if I can get a speed boost passed to him, although he surprisingly outruns a lot. SD then sweep. The dark typing is essential for obvious incoming psychic attacks. I love how Knock Off wrecks faces this gen. Seems to have enough bulk to withstand many non-choiced, non-EQ attacks too, so I can at least get in a Knock Off.
Dragalge @ Black Sludge
Ability: Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Toxic
- Venoshock
- Dragon Pulse
Adaptability isn't available yet, so PP will have to do. Dragalge tanks special hits pretty well, serving as a complement to Weezing. Venoshock takes advantage of Toxic Spikes, but otherwise he can usually absorb a special hit to use Toxic or try to burn with Scald if they're immune. Shrugs off mons like Heatran or Rotom formes.
Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Taunt
- Focus Blast
I wish I could go Mega. Oh well. Taunt takes care of a lot of things like boosters and status users, then I just try to sweep. Useful as a spinblocker too.
Toxicroak @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Poison Jab
- Sucker Punch
- Ice Punch
Toxicroak has been hit or miss depending on my opponent. Very useful water counter, but I often find that without a baton passed speed boost he's usually too slow to survive long enough to deal out damage. Should I go Jolly? Problem in that case is he probably won't have enough dmg output to OHKO.
Weezing @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Will-O-Wisp
- Sludge Bomb
- Fire Blast
Invaluable as a physical wall. WoW shuts down physical sweepers. Mega Lucario ain't shit. SB for stab and FB for steels. Heatran walls the shit out of this. Thinking of replacing SB with TBolt. Toxic might be redundant as well. Pain Split? Or maybe run WoW/SB/TBolt/FB.
I can also have two reserves. I really like Nidoking (it's my favorite Pokemon), so I was thinking a choice specs/scarf/life orb sweeper could be interesting. Something like Timid + Earth Power/Ice Beam/Fire Blast/TBolt. A Crobat with Defog/Brave Bird/Uturn/Roost would be my #2 if I feel like entry hazards are starting to be a problem.
I've noticed a few problem enemies:
- Substitute Gliscor is a major counter. Doesn't give a damn about poison since it's usually holding Toxic Orb. Gengar is usually my best bet, but otherwise he kinda screws me over. Was thinking Nidoking could be a possible solution.
- Clefable is usually strong enough to tank my hits, especially with Cosmic Power. If it gets a couple up I'm usually defeated.
- Prankster is a problem for some of my team members. Dragalge and Drapion w/ Lum don't mind it much, but a paralyzed Gengar or taunted Weezing is major trouble.
- Fast special sweepers who can counter Dragalge, like Greninja, pose a problem once in a while.
