Other Metagames Mono-Type: Fairly Odd Parents (feat. Cosmo and Wanda)

So I've been messing around with Mono-type battling the last few days (I really enjoy the diversity of move sets I've seen and the ingenuity people have trying to overcome their weaknesses even in the worst match-ups). I built a few teams and about a week ago I came up with a Fairy-type mono team that was built to combat Poison- and Steel-type mono teams (while still covering against almost all other types). I haven't laddered (mostly because I have an aversion to even trying) but the record against counter types is positive and I haven't lost a good match-up yet (my only loss so far was to a well-built Rock-type team that managed to set up Omastar and stall out with Cradily). Here's what we've got!

azumarill.gif

Cosmo (Azumarill) (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Knock Off
- Superpower
- Aqua Jet

Azumarill is definitely the premier beater of this team. It manages to get coverage and priority against a plethora of mono-type teams (it's usually the star player against Steel-types as its typing takes their hits with neutral damage, while dealing a lot back with Superpower). It also plays well against Ghost-types spamming Knock Off in the late game and acting as a way to revenge kill Gengar).

gardevoir-mega.gif

Wanda (Gardevoir) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt

Mega Gardevoir is easily one of the best Mega Evolutions in the game, and its attack typing covers very well against most teams. It is capable of (and does) a sweep straight through Dark- and Dragon-type mono teams. It also adds a very necessary Focus Blast to hit Steel-types and Thunderbolt to take care of the ever-powerful Flying-type. Even more necessary is the Psyshock adding a STAB to deal with Poison-types.

klefki.gif

Boo-Boo Keys (Klefki) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Spikes
- Reflect
- Light Screen

Klefki adds great support to Fairy-type mono teams. Taking Steel-type attacks with neutral damage while providing a full immunity to Poison-types, Klefki also helps a great deal using Thunder Wave to slow down enemy teams for the rest of the team to deal with (Fairies are great, but they lack a solid speed tier, so Klefki is perfect for the mono-types). It also helps a hell of a lot by setting up Screen/Reflect to allow Slurpuff a safe(r) Belly Drum.

togekiss.gif

Kisses (Togekiss) @ King's Rock
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Flamethrower
- Air Slash
- Roost
- Thunder Wave

Togekiss also works well as a support(ish) Pokemon for Fairies. Flamethrower allows it to take out the pesky Steel- and Bug-types. A second Thunder Wave user (that also acts as a Flincher) further supports the rest of the team (while it can also sweep by itself against mono Grass teams).

florges.gif

Blossom (Florges) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy
- Wish
- Protect

I needed a Specially Defensive wall that could act as a cleric to my team. I weighed Florges v. Sylveon for awhile but I decided on Florges because it generally takes Special Hits a little better and that's what I needed.

slurpuff.gif

Splat (Slurpuff) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 60 HP / 252 Atk / 198 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wish
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
- Drain Punch

Finally, I wanted to add a setup sweeper, and there was none better than Slurpuff. Generally speaking, the only problem this set has is physically defensive Poison-types (like Weezing). Otherwise, the Belly Drum setup allows for either an early lead (ie, predicting against a hazard setter) that can take out 1 or 2 Pokemon before being countered (or otherwise forcing a forfeit). It can also come in the mid-game or late game to clean up.

Welp, that's mono-type Fairies. I personally recommend everyone to try out mono-type battling at least once, you'll be amazed by all the cool tech choices you see people running. Leave comments, let me know what you think about this team. Thanks!

Hey, dude. Nice standard team! There are some edits that I'd suggest though.
First of all, you decided to run the screens klefki set, so why no set up azumarill? Azu abuses screens really well so I'd recommend you change azumarill to this set:
Azumarill (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Knock Off
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
164 speed to outspeed no speed base 70s (like skarmory) but in monotype lots run max speed so that could be more useful. This set is pretty simple, really. Set up screens, set up azu, sweep/put in tons of work vs types like ground, fire, psychic, etc. Just a really nice mon in general.
+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 88+ Def Ferrothorn: 344-405 (97.7 - 115%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO also a nice calc that ohkos ferro
Regarding Gardevoir, there are many moves that are just way more useful than thunderbolt. I'd personally recommend Substitute>Thunder Bolt but you could also run will o to cripple attackers, taunt, or encore.
For Togekiss, a really nice set on fairy teams is
Togekiss @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Air Slash
- Dazzling Gleam
- Trick
this is actually a really nice set with pretty self explanatory moves. trick to cripple walls like chansey which could be annoying for your team otherwise.
I noticed your lack of a stealth rocker (which is amazing for fire, flying, bug etc matchups) and I also saw how useless florges seemed on your team. What I'd recommend to you in fully defensive unaware clef with Stealth Rocks, Moonblast, Flamethrower, and Moonlight. This set gets up rocks and is able to live any attack from scizor (major threat) and hit it hard with flamethrower.
For Slurpuff, I'd run Aromatherapy/Return > Wish because you can get rid of your status or hit neutrally with return.
Cool team!
edit: accidentally put band bd xd
edit2: DO NOT use kings rock that was a mistype
Azumarill (M) @ Sitrus Berry

Thanks for the suggestions!

While Azumarill is definitely fearsome as a Belly Drum setup paired with Screens, I find it difficult to abuse 2 Belly Drum users on one team, whereas the Choice Band set is great for Revenge Kills and general beater purposes. I did, however, put the speed investment into it and it's been so far very useful for countering non-speed Bisharp and the like.

As for Slurpuff, I now do Aromatherapy > Wish as you recommended (that 4th move slot on Slurpuff is kind of a gray area but Aromatherapy seems like the most logical for certain purposes).

As for Togekiss, I assume you meant to change the item to either Choice Scarf or Choice Specs. I went with Choice Scarf > King's Rock for the simple fact that it acts like Jirachi with Air Slash and it's ability to cripple walls is better than if you get a bad switch and pass a Specs to a Special Attacker/Wall. So far, this set has done beautifully.

Thanks for the support! Always appreciated.

Yo Zane,

Nice team bro. I haven't played THAT much Monotype, but it definitely looks like a solid team. I do see some things that could be changed.

- Mega Gardevoir is a great mon and it fits really well on your team, but I feel like the Thunderbolt is kind of redundant. Like Lax said, I would go for the Substitute > Thunderbolt. This way you can set up a Sub on a predicted switch and get of a free Hyper Voice in any given situation.

- Slurpuff is happy behind the screens :] But I feel like Return > Aromatherapy. I know it prevents Slurpuff from being burned or paralyzed, but you already have your Florges as a clerc. Also, when you are facing Poison teams Return becomes a lot handier, even though Toxic Spikes will probably be on the field, as you can get a neutral hit of instead of a resisted one.

For the rest of the team, I personally wouldn't change anything. It looks pretty solid this way. I hope my comment was useful and I wish you luck and fun in your battles.

Coba out

Hey dude, King's Rock doesn't add up to the flinch chance so better but otherwise its pretty good'ol powerful fairy team, consider scarf for some flinch shenanigans and You get a strong revenge killer too.
Or you could try the standard defog set too, as you have no hazard removal, also I agree with CobalionCouncil as return > wish/aromatherapy on slurpuff as it is more of a cleaner.
Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 4 SpD / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Air Slash
- Thunder Wave/Defog
- Roost

Hey thanks. I'm using the Scarf set on Togekiss now. I don't think Defog is super important for Fairy Monotype teams as the only one that is weak to SR is Togekiss and Spikes are a tad bit under-used in the format. I'm also testing out Return on Slurpuff but haven't gotten to test it against Poison yet (but I see that it's a super cool idea).
