First of all thanks for taking the time to do this, I'm sure the community will be interested in hearing from an mpl manager and seasonal runner-up, would you mind telling us a bit about yourself? (favorite pokemon, how you got into pokemon, hobbies outside of pokemon, etc whatever you want, stuff in parenthesis doesnt go on the thread)

hi i'm adjustments, i'm a college student studying economics and public health in the state of PA. i think people forget, or don't know that i'm a little bit of a boomer myself in this community, i got into PS back in 2016 and got recruited to a league off of the OU ladder which is how i got into monotype. i wasn't fully assimilated into smogon until about 2020 though when leagues fully died off for good. i've played the video games casually since i was like 7 or 8 years old though, platinum was my first game. outside of mons i like to do martial arts, i've earned a black belt in tang soo do, which is a korean martial art and i've trained in it for about 13 or 14 years now. i also enjoy watching anime and playing chess lol but i think i am better at mons than chess... my favorite pokemon are probably turtwig, goomy and azumarill, in no particular order.

How did you come up with the name adjustments?

this one is quite a funny story, for those who don't know, my name before this was xEpicc, which most people could argue is a cringe and bad name. in late 2017, my friend from a side server offered me the alt adjustments since i mentioned a total rebrand to him. i ended up taking that offer and i also got the alts adjusting, adjustment and adjusts in that deal. i did not get the name on the smogon forums until 2020 though, which i was put in a situation where i was told to get the name change as fast as possible before MPL 6 to maximize my chance of getting drafted. overall though i think the word slides off the tongue smoothly and is a funny and memorable username to have.

How did you really get involved in Monotype? You mentioned leagues, what was that like?

leagues at their peak were an extremely fun time. you got to be a gym leader, elite four or professor but had to complete different challenges to earn your title and it was a little bit of roleplay but the beefing and toxicity was far worse than what we have going on during team tours now. people typically honed in on mastering just 1 type which is a thing of the total past now, you've gotta know how to play everything now and can't just main 1 type. i started as a psychic gym leader and eventually became a fairy gym leader staple for many leagues back then. some of my friends from that era are still around and seeing everyone evolve from type maining and roleplay has been pretty cool, it was a fun thing when we were younger but we've all grown up now.
after the last side server hit record low activity levels in March/April 2020, i ended up leaving there but wanted to stay in touch with all of the people i knew that left that era behind. one of my friends got me an invite to an old private room on the main server, where i met a lot of the people who ditched side servers. we mostly played mafia and i didn't really focus on taking my game to the next level until Splash, someone i knew of somewhat at the time, offered to tutor me and get me in shape for MPL. it was an enticing offer because he mentioned that he was tutored by Eien, which is someone my younger self thought very highly of. i took him up on that offer and i ended up getting a lot out of it. he hooked me up with Wanka and LuckyPiper who picked me up on the first iteration of the Treeckos in MPL 6. since then, i've been a pretty consistent face in tournaments and the like.

Congrats on your great seasonal run, is there a team from your run that you most enjoyed using and wouldn't mind sharing with us? Any fun sets you used that are a bit unorthodox?

thank you!
https://pokepast.es/861fac6c8d68027f this psychic team is pretty cool, i got inspiration from churrojr and gelbel3c but i believe they both ran different sets than me outside of maybe the AV meloetta. psychic is definitely considered a below average type at most but when i saw those 6 being used i thought i could make it work in my seasonal run, but i had to save it for the right time. after extensive testing i realized the only player that it would work on is azick, since he likes to use more bulkier stuff and the team revolves around breaking down bulkier stuff. so i told myself if i make finals vs azick im gonna whip this out and i did. im happy it got me 1 win in finals but it would have been even better to have gotten that one against fighting in the 2nd set. i am gonna retire it for now, which means you won't see it from my mpl team but maybe i'll be inspired to work with the type again at some point.
the other team i'd like to share is this dark team: https://pokepast.es/3c19f27a16d8c3c0 - for the record, this is not my team but Scarfire built this in the round i faced trich. as most people would, when i woke up and saw that i was paired against trichotomy in seasonals i felt a bit doomed and knew that my builds alone wouldn't get the job done. i had to consult a great builder to get the job done and i just had 1 request: don't lose to steel or hazard stack. funny enough this team loaded right into steel and it was perfect with boots spam to not lose to the hazard stack attack that steel has and i won that game and my set against trich.

Is there anything you think is underexplored / has potential that you would like to see somebody try and make work?

well definitely psychic can work as a type lol. but besides that i think some offensive/hyper offensive flying builds have yet to really be explored since everyone just wants to build fat/bulky teams, rain water also has so many different ways that it can be built that i haven't seen too too much of. i don't want to leak too much of my thoughts here during the mpl season haha because my team is having a lot of fun building SV and exploring different things that we want to show off in the tournament.

What's managing MPL like? How did you get your start managing and how did you team up with hex?

managing MPL is really fun, the dreamchasers were the runner ups of the first MFPL iteration and me and hex wanted to go bigger. it's super cool to bring a franchise from the farm league up to the big leagues. mushamu (he's the other comanager too!!!) is a long time friend of mine dating back to around the time i first started playing monotype, we even ran a league together back in the day. hex didn't enter the picture until MWP 4- which for time context is late 2021/early 2022- she and mushamu managed that tour and they ended up stealing me from LuckyPiper and crashy that tournament, who i had only teamed with in the past up until that point. i was a little bit unhappy about that at first, but it only took me a short amount of time to realize how funny and cool of a person hex is. the seafolk city spirits were a total blast and we created some of the most memorable moments in our monotype careers on that team. we ended up winning that tournament and we've stayed in touch and have been friends since then. both hex and mushamu provide the experience that i don't have in managing- since MFPL was my first go at that. they both know all the little tips and tricks, from rule nuances to auction prep from their vast and past experiences managing. i like to think that i provide a more level head and keep their ideas from going off the deep end- we keep each other in check like that.

Do you have any advice for someone who maybe missed out on getting drafted for MPL but wants to play in MFPL?

i don't really know what the tutoring program is like these days but that is definitely an avenue to get your foot in the door since the tutors are usually consistent faces in our tours. people often blindly recommend just reaching out to managers for tryouts and to send them introductions/accolades at the time of the tournament beginning. however, i think the prep for making these tournaments begin in the individual tournaments. to make connections you need to reach out to people, so if you are building a team for a seasonal and there's a player in MPL that you look up to/are friends with/good terms with, you should reach out to them for help in your seasonal or cup run. send them that team you are planning on bringing and just ask for a small tweak or two. if you are kind to them and work with their advice, they may be an outlet for getting your foot in the door in the future, especially if you both click on building.

Do you have a favorite moment playing monotype? A favorite memory that sticks out from your time on Pokemon Showdown / Smogon?

i rate my time on the MPL 6 Treeckos and MWP 4 Spirits about equally. the underdog finals run the Treeckos went on in MPL 6 was a fantastic first experience for me, and having really active teammates that helped me even further improve my game helped me out. if the replays still exist, i recommend go checking out all of the tiebreak games the Treeckos played in MPL 6- as a new face to the scene they were totally insane to me in an exciting/nervy way. we ended up playing among us in voice call in our team cord down 0-3 in finals and got swept by the Krows. Spirits actually followed through with winning the tournament but we had a very joking and unserious mentality for a lot of that time- deez nuts and bitches jokes were running rampant in the cord but the feeling of winning is like no other. we were rated very low on the power rankings but it didn't feel like that at all and we just had fun.

If you were tier leader for a day, what would you ban or unban?

if you read what i say in the monotype discord at all- i say some pretty crazy things about the meta. but in reality i think everything is ok right now, but with TL powers i wouldn't be able to help myself and experiment with a significant bout of unbans. i would probably free gambit and zamazenta at the very least. i preached about a full gen reset, i.e unbanning everything and retiering from scratch in the past but we are far too late for that now. thankfully i'm not the tier leader though!

Well, those are all of the questions I have for you, thank you for your time and your very dilligent answers! Do you have anybody you'd like to give a shoutout to?

i want to shoutout my comanagers hex and mushamu for being my bestest friends on this site that i could ask for, here's to many more legendary moments together, i love you. i also want to shoutout the people who first helped me get my feet on the ground when i was serious about taking my game to the next level Splash LuckyPiper Wanka crash, their boomer asses probably won't see this but i really appreciate what they did for me. i could list out a ton of other people but just know i really appreciate all of the people who i hang out with in all the random discord servers i'm in on a daily basis- you know who you are. lastly, i want to thank the lovely host royal for offering this opportunity for me to speak to the crowd and being a great friend as well.
