Monotype Rising Sets
:sv/ogerpon wellspring:
:sv/iron moth:
:sv/wo-chien:

Welcome to the seventh edition of the Monotype Rising Sets that aims to unveil the future of Monotype. You have been using an unknown set for a long time or have just thought about a new way of using a Pokémon? Come sharing your findings with the community!

This event will be run in the form of a contest. You will have 3 weeks to submit ONE set of your choosing for whichever Pokémon, before a poll is launched in the Monotype room to determine the winning set.

Rules:
  • Only one post per person is allowed.
  • Both the Pokémon and the set you want to feature are up to you.
  • A set is valid if and only if it does not exist in the Monotype SV SmogDex.
  • Item/Move-swap sets are not allowed, unless they change fundamentally the way the Pokémon is used.
  • You may import your set from your PS! teambuilder or write it down.
  • Your set proposition must include the following elements: set, description, potential teammates, and either replays or damage calculations.
  • Replays and damage calculations must showcase the set's uniqueness, so choose them wisely.
  • Please convey the uniqueness of your set while avoiding emphatic language ("It's the greatest set ever!")
  • Do not react to other submitted sets in your post, focus on yours.
Hereunder you will find the accepted format for submissions as well as an example of accepted and rejected sets.

Name of the set + Pokémon name + (Type) (ex: "Choice Specs Dragapult (Dragon)")

(you may import the set directly from your PS! teambuilder)

Pokemon @ Item
Ability:
EVs:
x Nature
- move 1
- move 2
- move 3
- move 4

Set Description

Describe what your set is achieving, which niche does it fill? Why is it interesting in the current metagame?

Teammates

Describe who would be the ideal teammates to surround it with which set.

Replays OR Damage calculations (doing both is accepted)

1. xxx
2. xxx
3. xxx

They should be commented and help you to make your point.

Barraskewda @ Choice Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flip Turn
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab

Changing one coverage move by another does not change the way the set is used, it is still Choice Band Barraskewda inside.
Barraskewda @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Muscle Band
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flip Turn
- Close Combat
- Psychic Fangs

By swapping Choice Band with HdB or Muscle Band, the way the pokémon is used drastically changes. Now Barraskewda acts as an Offensive Pivot, which comes with its own perks. Changing the moveset is not mandatory, but it does not mean the moveset should be lazily copy/pasted from an existing set. Your moveset should always be backed up with arguments.

Rewards:
  • ^ rank on Monotype room for a month
  • The winning set will be featured in the Monotype room
  • Addition of the set in the SmogDex

If you feel the heart of a builder, come sharing your best craft with the community!

Deadline for set submission is October 28th @ 11:59pm GMT-4

Prankster Screens Meowstic (Psychic)
Meowstic (M) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 248 HP / 152 Def / 104 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Thunder Wave
- Charm

Set Description
Prankster Screens has always been a valuable niche on any type that can utilize it. The extra bulk from Prankster screens makes AV mons extremely durable all around. Meowstic’s Prankster Screens also allows setup sweepers to have a number of different angles to setup for wins. Also being able to spread paralysis allows it to function similarly to Klefki on Fairy. Charm allows you soften blows even further behind Reflect to help other Meowstic’s teammates come in easily and is especially useful for Weakness Policy teammates who want to preserve HP. 104 Spe EVs and Timid allows you to outspeed Ceruledge to set Reflect before it can Shadow Sneak. The rest of the EVs goes into HP and Defense to maximize physical bulk.

Teammates
:PMd/iron-crown: One of the Weakness Policy setup sweepers that enjoys Dual Screens to clean games by proc’ing the item as well as living hits.

:pmd/hoopa-unbound: Hoopa has naturally high SpD, by having Reflect to boost its physical bulk, it allows Hoopa to threaten types like Steel more by not being forced out by mons like Iron Threads and threaten an OHKO in return.

:pmd/Gallade: Similar to Hoopa above, having Reflect on an AV set allows Gallade to threaten types like Steel and Dragon much easier.

:pmd/hatterene: CM Hatt enjoys the extra bulk to setup and drain tank as well as providing hazard prevention in Magic Bounce.

Special Wall Frog Politoed (Water)

Politoed @ Eject Button
Ability: Drizzle
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Encore
- Weather Ball
- Haze
- Protect

Politoed is an excellent rain pivot for Water teams, being able to survive most hits and switching out to preserve. Unlike Pelipper, Politoed can easily survive a Thunderbolt, and doesn't need to use Heavy-Duty Boots. Haze can decimate common set-ups like Volcarona while comfortably surviving hits, encore to essentially make special attackers immobile, and Weather Ball for reliable damage.

Basculegion and Barraskewda are essentially required as teammates, being excellent Choice Band sweepers.
Tentacruel takes advantage of this, being a wall almost impossible to break with Leftovers and Rain Dish, while also removing hazards with Rapid Spin.
Urshifu greatly benefits from this, Surging Strikes destroying teams left and right.

Damage Calcs:
252+ SpA Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Politoed: 234-276 (60.9 - 71.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Sinistcha Matcha Gotcha vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Politoed: 146-174 (38 - 45.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Zapdos Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Politoed: 308-366 (80.2 - 95.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Assault Vest Slither Wing (Bug)
Slither Wing @ Assault Vest
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 220 Atk / 68 SpD / 220 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn

Set Description
This is designed to help turn around Bug's generally poor matchups such as Raging Bolt Dragon where Bolt can basically 6-0, Steel, Normal. With its solid HP and high SpD, an Assault Vest lets Slither Wing switch in on special attacks that threaten its teammates. Against Steel, Flare Blitz, Earthquake, and Close Combat with its high Atk lets it threaten most of the team with a OHKO or 2HKO. Its high SpD provides an answer to Gholdengo, Archaludon, and even Heatran. It can 2HKO Raging Bolt with Earthquake (or usually with Earthquake + U-Turn too) while the 60 SpD EVs allow it to always survive +1 Thunderbolt/Draco Meteor into Thunderclap from 200 SpA Modest Bolt, ~90% chance to survive if 252 Modest, from full HP. Its resistance to Ground and Dark and neutrality to Rock lets it answer Bisharp, which is normally a nuisance for Bug when at +2, and Choice Scarf Landorus. Good SpD and a strong STAB Close Combat lets it threaten Normal types like Terapagos, Blissey, Porygon2, and Ursaluna. The Spe EVs allow it to outspeed unboosted Meowscarada, and anything slower such as Roaring Moon, Sneasler, Greninja, Ogerpon, in Sticky Web.

Teammates
Standard powerful offensive threats for Bug like Volcarona, Scizor, and Kleavor are good teammates. Araquanid also provides a switch-in for Fire type moves and Sticky Web support. Forretress is a good physical wall that can use Volt Switch for pivoting or set Spikes to chip opponents for Slither Wing and the rest of the team. Lokix is also an option to add on more direct offensive pressure and provides a Psychic immunity.

Calculations

Future Sight Latios (Dragon)

Code:
Latios (M) @ Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Luster Purge
- Flip Turn
- Future Sight

Set Description
While most Latios sets capitalize on its coverage options, here we use Future Sight and Flip Turn to create an unstoppable offensive combination. Soul Dew is used as the best generalist damage-boosting item as no coverage moves are used. Draco Meteor pairs well with Flip Turn since if Latios switches out after Draco's SpA drop but before Future Sight hits, Future Sight will still use Latios's full SpA. Luster Purge is both Latios's best spammable STAB move while also pairing well with Future Sight since a Future Sight that lands on a target whose SpD has been lowered by Luster Purge will benefit from those SpD drops.

Teammates
The most important teammate is a strong physical attacker as Future Sight followed by Flip Turn into them creates a situation where the opponent will be hit by both a physical attack and a special attack the next turn. For that reason, Roaring Moon is a great teammate. Other options include Garchomp, physical Dragapult, and Dragonite. Since Latios can get chipped down throughout a battle, Healing Wish support from Latias can prove valuable.

3 Ice Attacks Cloyster (Water):
:cloyster:
Cloyster @ Never-Melt Ice
Ability: Skill Link
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 240 Atk / 180 SpA / 88 Spe
Rash Nature
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Beam
- Ice Shard
- Shell Smash

Set description: Mixed spread enables it to always beat most Dragon and Flying (except AV Archaludon variants) after a Shell Smash setup. 240 Attack EVs with a NevermeltIce ensure Cloyster always KO Latios at +2 with Ice Shard (while still taking down Goodra-Hisui), while 180 Special Attack EVs with a Rash nature ensure it can always oneshot Archaludon with Ice Beam and same item. Rest of EVS goes into speed to outspeed certain fat threats and can outspeed up to 130 unboosted speed after a Shell Smash. It's also very useful against Flying since mixed approach enables it to beat simultaneously Articuno, Skarmory and Corviknight. Set goal is to have a reliable way of beating forementioned types while freeing the rest of team structure to prepare vs other builds (Dark, Water, etc)

Teammates:
:ogerpon-wellspring: :urshifu-rapid-strike:
Pokémon that struggle with Flying and Dragon in Pokemon in general such as Ogerpon-Wellspring and Urshifu-Rapid Strike form great partners.
:swampert:
Swampert is also a great ally due to its ability to bring Stealth Rock (denies Skarmory's Sturdy which lets it get KOed by +2 Ice Beam) and Flip Turn, obtaining extra momentum especially against Defoggers.

Calcs:
+2 180+ SpA Never-Melt Ice Cloyster Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Archaludon: 385-454 (100.2 - 118.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 240 Atk Never-Melt Ice Cloyster Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Goodra-Hisui: 395-470 (108.5 - 129.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 240 Atk Never-Melt Ice Cloyster Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 302-356 (100.3 - 118.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 180+ SpA Never-Melt Ice Cloyster Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Skarmory: 364-429 (108.9 - 128.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 240 Atk Never-Melt Ice Cloyster Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Articuno: 395-470 (103.1 - 122.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 180+ SpA Never-Melt Ice Cloyster Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Corviknight: 307-363 (76.9 - 90.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (phys def Corv)
+2 240 Atk Never-Melt Ice Cloyster Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Corviknight: 380-450 (95 - 112.5%) -- approx. 91% chance to OHKO (spdef Corv)

:toucannon: THE CANNON :Toucannon:(Defensive Custap Berry Toucannon) (Normal)

Tiger Cannon (Toucannon) @ Custap Berry
Ability: Keen Eye
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Beak Blast
- Roost
- Knock Off
- Brave Bird

Before I say anything BIG shoutout to Leafeonlol for this set, he beat my ass on ladder with it and as a fellow Toucannon enjoyer I used it a bunch myself and was impressed with the results.

Set Description:
Anybody who has played STABmons knows how nasty this move is against physical attackers. Normally Toucannon's stats are too bad to use this move offensively, but defensively its another story. With fully defensive EVs this thing can crucially take hits from Pokemon like Ogerpon-W, Kleavor, and Sneasler and cripple them or outright KO them depending on the situation. Beak Blast also punishes the use of Rapid Spin from Pokemon like Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Brambleghast, which can be super handy in the long run. It also punishes the commonly spammed Flip Turn and U-turn that many countless Pokemon use. Roost allows you to heal while Knock Off gives you pressure against the several switch ins this thing has. Brave Bird allows you to use a stronger physical nuke and also allows you to chip yourself into Custap range. Custap is super useful as a last-ditch effort to make progress or to keep Toucannon healthy. Custap Roost allows you to survive hits like Exacdrill/Landorus' Rock Slide better and allows you to try and stall them out. Heavy Duty Boots can be used as well but Braviary tends to be better if you use this item due to its stats being better. Custap is uniquely good on Toucannon due to its unique ability to burn the targets it attempts to wall, which Braviary cannot do.

Teammates:
:Blissey: - Works well to take special hits for it, also just a really solid mon on Normal.
:Ditto: - Borderline requirement for Normal teams, also takes advantage of its burns to revenge kill physical attackers
:Zoroark-hisui: - Mindgame specialist and also a really solid breaker that likes Toucannon's disruption tactics
:Terapagos: - Rapid Spin support so Toucannon doesn't lose to rocks
:Ursaluna: - Burnt targets make for great setup opportunities

Replays: (More to come)
