Other Metagames Monotype Steel Team

Steven is my inspiration behind this team, and it has constantly evolved (hehe) up to this point. I like what i have so far, but it would be nice to have some outside opinions.

Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
I use Excadrill as a wall breaker. With mold breaker, i can blast past Pokes with Sturdy and levitate. EQ and Iron head are self explanitory (IMO). Rock slide is for Flying types, mostly talonflame, and Rapid spin for spikes mostly. Max speed and attack for max damage output. Life orb is sometimes switched with choice scarf/band

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Volt Switch
Magnezone is for bulky water types like azumarill and for skarmory. Volt switch is for momentum and prediction, tbolt for a reliable STAB, as well as flash cannon. HP fire for other Magnet pull pokemon. Choice Scarf is for an extra speed boost on most unboosted pokes.

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch
- Meteor Mash
Metagross is the main cleanup poke. With max speed and jolly, it outspeeds a lot of the meta. taking full advantage of tough claws, zen headbutt and meteor mash are great STAB, ice punch for coverage against bulky grass types, as well as dragon types, EQ for coverage as well.

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind
- Roost
Skarmory is mostly used for Rocks, but if matches well with the opponent's lead, can shuffle very well. sturdy, of course, to ensure that rocks are set, roost and BB are for if skarmory makes it out alive and lasts.

Empoleon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Flash Cannon
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
Empoleon is the main sweep, as opposed to the bulky/defensive set. Choice specs for an added boost. Hydro pump over Scald for extra damage, Grass knot covers Rotom-W, other moves for general coverage.

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
Ferrothorn is for some added utility and for switch-ins. gyro ball is its main STAB after seeds are set and at least one set of spikes. power whip for azumarill and MegaDos. 0 IVs and relaxed nature to take full advantage of Gyro ball.

Hey, interesting team. Here's a rate:
  • 376-mega.png
    -->
    scizor-mega.png
; Mega Metagross is banned in Monotype, so the next best mega evolution, and pretty much the only good one, is Mega Scizor. There are a few variants of Mega Scizor, but a bulky variant with Roost, Swords Dance and two attacks fits really well on a balanced build such as yours.
  • empoleon.png
    -->
    heatran.png
; Heatran is a very important Pokemon on Steel-type teams because it's immune to Fire-type moves and can fulfill many roles. Looking at your team, a Specially Defensive variant would fit the best. Putting Stealth Rock on it will enable you to put Toxic on Skarmory which helps with crippling or stalling out Pokemon.
  • magnezone.png
    -->
    bisharp.png
; Magnezone's main job on Steel-type teams is to deal with Water-types and make the Flying matchup easier. Since you have Ferrothorn, Water is not an issue and Flying can be played around, especially with Bisharp which has a powerful priority move in Sucker Punch allowing it to pick off threats like Landorus once it's taken some damage. Bisharp is a great physical attacker and thanks to its access to Swords Dance and the previously mentioned Sucker Punch, it can be a great wincon in a lot of matchups, being able to pick off a lot of things that have taken damage, especially if it sets up. It also punishes Defog users thanks to its Defiant ability and this is important because you have Stealth Rock and Spikes on your team so your opponent is going to want to get rid of those as soon as possible.
  • excadrill.png
--> Choice Scarf ; By replacing Magnezone with Bisharp, you now lack a Choice Scarf user, so that's where Excadrill comes in. Excadrill has decent Speed and with a Choice Scarf it's able to check threats such as Mega Charizard Y, Choice Band Terrakion, Infernape etc., pick off other weakened Pokemon or just spam Earthquake which is a strong STAB move that still hits things like Rotom-W and Latios thanks to Mold Breaker, obviously.
  • skarmory.png
Stealth Rock --> Toxic ; By adding Heatran you can put Stealth Rock on that and run Toxic on Skarmory, as mentioned in the Heatran explanation.
  • ferrothorn.png
Rocky Helmet --> Leftovers ; 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def --> 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD ; Ferrothorn is your main check to Water-types and even Ground-types, so you want as much longevity as you can get, that's why I recommend Leftovers over Rocky Helmet. You already have Skarmory as a physically defensive wall, and one of the best I might add, so running that much defense on Ferrothorn isn't needed. I recommend a mixed defensive spread which will let you check many other Pokemon than just physical attackers and Pokemon which STAB moves you resist.
Scizor-Mega (M) @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Atk / 108 Def / 52 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Knock Off / Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers / Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpD / 80 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Toxic

Excadrill (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Toxic
- Whirlwind
- Roost

Bisharp (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

Hope I helped, good luck with the team! :toast:

the thing is, i don't use my team in monotype, i use in it normal "street battles" as an OU team. that should be kept in mind.
I didn't really take heatran into mind because I thought of it as a legendary, but just realized it was OU, so i will give it a try. Bisharp also never crossed my mind, so i will try that out as well. With the way i am using megagross, i want to try to keep him, but if need be, i will switch it out (reluctantly). Ferrothorn was honestly a last minute throw-in to replace klefki, but he worked.
Thank you for the feedback, i will try the subs out :)
