What is Monotype UU?
This thread will serve as the primary place for metagame resources and general discussion.
For some less formal discussion and talk with the Monotype UU community, come hang out in the Monotype uu discord.
Monotype UU is a unique tier that functions as a usage-based tier beneath Monotype.

Tiering Method
The Monotype UU tier begins with a base of the regular Monotype format.
We look at the Monotype usage statistics from the previous months, and ban a Pokemon if one of these conditions is true:

It has only one type and has more than 2.26% usage
It has more than 4.52% usage

In this banning process, we do not consider whether the Pokemon is banned or legal in any other tier (OU, UU, RU,...).
As of February 2024, Latios is banned even though it's usable in the UU tier. It gets more than 4.52% usage in Monotype, so it's banned in Monotype UU.
From this starting point, the community and council decide on bans.
The Monotype UU council will quickban any blatantly overpowered, uncompetitive or toxic Pokemon with a 3/4 (75% or greater) majority to "Monotype UUBL."

Low and minimal counterplay and it's difficult to manage after getting an initial boost. Furthermore, it gained Draining Kiss giving it a better chance against Dark-types.	It's due to his speed + his high atk spe and ofc his ability to snowball a game with grim neigh. Even in mono classic spectrier is a real threat against what u have to be prepared. After 2 months, I think its ability to sweep is too easy and not a problem for Spectrier, itself in the tier (especially if u don't have a bulky dark/normal it's pretty difficult to manage the mon + hard to revenge if scarf or sub set). That explains my vote for a ban.	In addition of that, its ability boosting its SpA and the fact it can be played with many sets (Scarf/Specs/Sub Wow CM/Sub Disable CM mainly) make it unhealthy. It gained Dkiss this gen which makes it stronger than in SS. If u didn't run a normal type in ur team, it's really difficult to avoid a sweep by clicking X. For all these reasons, I think it needs to be banned for the competitivity of the tier.	With a base spatk of 145, one if not the best stab type existing, and a good coverage move to hit dark types with draining kiss, Spectrier is a mon you have to keep in mind when building a team in monotype. Then imagine checking it in monotype UU, where most good spedef tanks are gone. If you have no normal type in your team, it's almost impossible to find a switchin. As a normal type doesn't bring an exciting synergy with mist types (psychic and indeedee set apart), the sole presence of Spectrier in the tier becomes quite a constraint when teambuilding, therefore I would rather ban it.	Not enough data/usage to make me pro ban and I believe Spectrier is a Pokemon that naturally punishes the builder. Adding Draining Kiss gives Spectrier a consistent / better way to offensively take advantage of Dark-types. However, with Hoopa-U dropped last month and rain feeling like a more prominent playstyle, I'm leaning toward DNB for now.

Can we update the resources? A lot of the sample teams have banned mons (like Ogerpon-water, Mamoswine, Enamorus, and Walking Wake, for example).

I've been laddering with UU monotype teams on the OU ladder, and I've come to the following conclusions:

1. The power of UU monotype is much higher than what most people think. IMO UU monotype teams of multiple types can succeed in OU; I've spammed UU monotype teams on the OU ladder (3 different types: Ground, Dragon, and Flying) and managed to climb to 1650 on decent GXE with relative ease, without even running specific prep for mons in the OU metagame. Of course, I then tried to make UU fighting work and lost ELO and GXE... (spoiler: UU fighting is ass). I also have no doubt rain water can work in the OU metagame, and I would not be surprised if a properly built UU Steel and/or UU Dark could do so as well.

2. As a corollary to (1), low tier types (like Rock/Grass/Ice/Electric) aren't actually that good in mono UU despite having relatively few mons banned. These types couldn't even do well on the OU monotype ladder with no bans, how can they compete with teams with enough power that they do so naturally? Maybe if NU monotype becomes a thing these types can shine. I hope this tier gets a ladder so NU mono can be a thing and make these types see play.

3. As another corollary to (1), We should be more lenient on quickbans. If I recall correct RM was once quickbanned, and while it might be banned by usage now, if it does drop I think it should be given a chance; the teams I ran checked it without specific prep for it; for example, on the teams I used, I dealt with it naturally as I had several natural answers without even accounting for it, viz: specs kommo-o, scarf Cyclizar, Scarf Lando-T, Quagsire, Flame Body Moltres, intimidate Twave Gyra. Quite frankly, if Flutter was somehow allowed in UU monotype right now, I would not be immediately convinced it would break the tier; I faced more than one Flutter Mane when laddering and I generally beat them without too many issues.

Description: We run Gastrodon as our water immunity, and Quagsire's here so we don't get 6-0ed by BD azu; rock slide is a must to deal with sub DD Gyra. We add Piloswine to not lose to Freeze-dry (rock slide added to not to get PP stalled by Articuno). Since our defensive core has 2 4x grass weaknesses, we add an Offensive double U-turn core of Lando-T + Flygon to pressure Grass, Dark, and Psychic; in addition, the priority (First Impression) is invaluable for checking threats such as Crawdaunt and Weavile. Lastly, we add AV Toedscruel as a Sinestea check and hazard removal, as well as a general switch-in to special Grass-type moves; 16 speed evs outspeed Adamant Breloom.

Note: If Orthworm is a big issue because steel happends to be good in UU, feel free to add Bpress on Quagsire (but not over rock slide; checking Sub/Taunt Gyra is too important)

Description: We run Specs Kommo-o on Dragon; specs Vaccum wave is the best way to deal with dangerous threats such as Weavile, Sandslash-Alola, and Darkrai; with this, to cement the Ice MU we pair this is Scarf Duraludon to snipe things like Ninetails-Alola. We then run Dragalge as our obligatory moonblast switchin, and we run Hydregion for Stealth rock. We then add Scarf Cyclizar to patch up our speed control (Duraludon doesn't have the best speedtier...) and give us nice hazard removal while also removing items with Knock off. Lastly, we add CM Latias as a way to not get 6-0ed by demon Kelfki.

Description: Inspired by Trich, we run Scarf Lando-T. We add in Gyra as a way to deal with Weavile and Cloyter, and we add Moltres as a way to check Lilligant-Hisui. In addition, we add Articuno as our generic special wall, and Mandibuzz for hazard removal. Lastly, we add Upper Hand Flamigo as a way to check +6 Ceitan; it also helps with BD azu in some cases (naturally a team that relies on double intimidate is somewhat weak to belly drum), and it's also a decent wallbreaker who benefits from all the pivots on the team.

This month's tier shifts will be released on Sunday. For now, sample teams that include banned mons will be removed, and these mons will also be removed from the VR. A more complete update of the ressources is planned following MOMPL (should coincide more with November's metagame).

I'm not sure we can talk about "being more lenient on quickbans" when RM is currently the only mon that is banned by council and not by usage... I personally think the mon is too strong for the tier, it has amazing stats compared to the rest of the tier and great movepool, and this sentiment is shared by other council members. However, I think we're totally open to reconsider it after MOMPL, and it is great to have input from the people who've played the tier for that.

I tried a few different fighting builds and I've found HO builds don't really work that well for the type for some reason. In this tier, fighting's best best is some kind of bulky offense featured above. Essentially, AV Okidogi is the best AV user, and Scrafty covers Okidogi's psychic weakness; Specs Keldeo is the best special attacker (with Surf since Keldeo cannot afford to miss water STAB on this team), and zapdos-Galar is a earthquake immunity while Pawmot is Fighting's best Electric immunity, with Cobalion as the SR setter. Rest BU Scrafty is to ensure you always beat Toxic Quagsire 1v1, allowing it to serve as a reliable win condition against bulky ground and balanced water. The team overall maintained an 79% gxe on the same alt, so it's def usable in mono uu.

Description: Essentially has Sableye + hazards. Overqwil provides Spikes + Tspikes and Hydre provides SR; Hoopa-U is the best scarfer, while Goltres cleans with hazards up and Incineor acts as a specially defensive pivot (since the team has no real moonblast tanker) with Parting shot to help Hydregion and G-Moltres use their setup moves safely. Weavile can be used instead of G-Moltres if you're a fan (SD sets will play similarly to double dance G-Moltres here), but I prefer not to lose to flame body, but ultimately it comes down to player perference and Weavile has its advantages as well.

Team got me from ~1600 to like 1690 with 1 loss; actual smurfing confirmed.

Description: I was sad that HO fighting was bad, so I tried my hand at building HO water to see how good it was. HO water ended up being hilariously effective and fun to play. Team was built with an offensive Spinner (Quaq), Sash Cloyster, SR Flip turn Pert, Specs Basculigion as a special breaker (not running Keldeo with Quaquaval), Scarf Gyra for speed control with actual offensive presence, and webs as a 6th mon to patch up general speed issues. Team was so effective this alt got to top 10 on monotype ladder (~1740 elo).

Sadly Araquanid is now banned by usage so this team is no longer mono UU legal. RIP fun teams; was hilarious while it lasted though. I will have to find another way to make a fun HO team work in this tier.

I'm looking through https://www.smogon.com/stats/2024-10/gen9monotype-0.txt, and whether im using 0 stats, 1500, 1630, or 1760, ditto sits above 2.26% usage. By the OP:

We use the 1630 stats from the three latest months, with weights to give more importance to most recent usages.

In the case of ditto, it had only 1,99% usage in september and 1,80% usage in august, what puts it under the threshold even with 2,38% usage this month.

The reason for that method is to reflect real trends in usage rather than spikes that may occure because one individual decided to use a pokemon at high ladder for whatever reason. It smoothens a bit the usages, allowing more stability in the tier
