Moonblast ~ A dual teambuild by Shaian and Myself, GlassGlaceon

INTRODUCTION
Backstory: This Interesting team idea popped into my head because back in BW Dubz, I had made a team with a Darkrai on it used as a bulky attacking mon. NP Taunt Protect Dark Pulse. Needless to say I was (and still am according to finally ) the world's biggest scrub. Fast forward to XY, my main thug based Shaian and I love to dual-teambuild, because of the stupid things that we think of, and trying to make them work. One time we were about to work on a team, and the team was having trouble with cress. Now instead of being smart and using Aegislash, We decided to be dumb. I told him "Bulky Dakrai w/ taunt y/y" and that's when it hit us. We realized how expansive krai's movepool was, and how much of a great mon he had the potential to be. Then I said, "Mega-Gardevoir would go great with this." And that's how Moonblast was born. (Glass peaked @ #2 but lost the screencap somewhere ;_;.)

Also Shaian is in
Green
And Glass is in Blue
W/out any further ado...

The Team:
tumblr_mlw02i0Hxo1s5h198o1_400.gif

Pwne's Heart (Darkrai) @ Leftovers
Ability: Bad Dreams
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 220 HP / 144 SpA / 144 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Snarl
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Protect

This is half of the team's main core: Darkrai+Megagard is an extremely powerful mixed core, with Darkrai being the supporter for the two. Darkrai is surprisingly bulky with this investment, able to take attacks like Jolly Kanga's Return, scarf lando's attacks (bar superpower) Darkrai's main use is to outspeed weaken physical attackers that destroy mega-gardevoir with will-o-wisp such as mega-kanga, excadrill, garchomp, and other assorted threats. For things like aegislash that try to switch in on gardevoir, we have snarl and will-o-wisp, and taunt can lock it into blade form while gardevoir blasts it. Taunt is also good against TR teams that try to disrupt the mostly fast pace of this team.

We went with a bulkier Darkrai set as our main building point. Snarl helps break down special sweepers, and provides STAB spread for chip damage. Will-O-Wisp allows Darkrai to use his great speed to cripple imposing physical threats, being able to get in sac burns on threats like Terrakion, Azumarill, Bisharp, Kangaskhan, Aegislash, Lucario etc.. Taunt is to shut down walls/TR setters. And Protect because this is doubles. The Leftovers on the set provide healing, which Darkrai is otherwise incapable of doing.

Pwne's Masculinity (Gardevoir) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Psyshock

Gardevoir is the second half of this team's main core, and the synergy it has with darkrai is just outstanding. Shaian said really everything I was going to...Gardevoir's lackluster physical bulk is remedied by will-o-burn from crai, and garde hits most of darkrai's threats extremely hard. Hyper Voice is a fantastic spread move levels any Super-effective hits, and hits insanely hard off of base 165 s.atk w/ pixilate to boost it. Psyshock is also the equivalent of a bomb, and it's run for special walls/tanks and serves as another good stab to hit things like char-y, sylveon, and things that resist hyper voice.
Hp Ground is great on Garde because it lures in and kills (BAN ME PLEASE) (bar shuca) and hurts other steel types marginally hard.

Gardevoir + Darkrai is such an imposing core, it might actually be unfair. Gardevoirs lack of natural physical bulk is mitigated by Darkrai's fast burns, and Gardevoir hurts the bugs and fighting types that threaten Darkrai. Hyper Voice provides an absolutely devastating STAB spread move that takes an easy 50% off anything that doesn't resist it, and OHKO's every fighting type this side of an Assault Vest. Hidden Power Ground is to pick off opposing Heatran and Aegislash at lower health. Psyshock rounds this set off with a move that deals physical damage in order to prevent Gardevoir from being walled by special walls.
tumblr_m1ebixySfX1qckwxco1_r1_500.gif

Pwne's Sweg (Thundurus) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 88 HP / 164 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave

Thundurus is such a menace in this metagame: Prankster para, prankster taunt...Thundurus is just awesome. Part one of the offensive/anti-rain core of this team, thundurus clocks in at an awesome base 111 speed and can fire off powerful tbolts and hp ices coming off of it's good s.atk stat. Was formerly rotom but rain made me cri and i also needed a secondary check to talonflame EVs are to ohko standard 4/0 garch w/ hp ice, max speed as always, and throw the rest into bulk. Can also be used as anti-tr if jellicent is seen.

Thundurus provides Prankster Taunts to shut down opposing Thundy's, Whimsicotts, Perish Trap and more. It also spreads around T-Waves to make it easier to sweep late game with Gardevoir, as it no longer has to deal with the annoying base 100 speed ties and also slows down pokemon that are base 100+ and scarfed pokemon. The 25% chance to provide parahax isn't too bad either. With a Life Orb, he becomes an imposing special attacker that can shut down rain teams, flying types, can 2HKO Rotom - W. Thunderbolt is for a strong STAB attack, and for dealing with Charizard, which otherwise wrecks the rest of the team (bar Heatran). Hidden Power Ice is for Dragons such as Garchomp and Landorus, both of which wall Thundurus.
tumblr_mm1x230t1v1s5h198o1_r1_400.gif

(Skymin's all up in the magnezone)

Pwne's Spirit o3o (Shaymin-Sky) @ Life Orb
Ability: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Air Slash
- Seed Flare
- Earth Power
- Protect

S-sky is mah boi. Life Orb Shaymin-sky hit's ridiculously hard, and spamming seed flare for sdef drops for more solid kills/ to force more switches is awesome. Part two of the offensive core is skymin. Skymin is normally used for it's sheer haxing to deth wallbreaking/revenge-killing powr. It's normally what we use to overpower special walls which is important because, as you may realize, this team is purely special attackers. Moveset is standard, Air slash/seed flare for dual ha-i mean STAB, and earth power for mons like tran, aegis, and other mons that bother me

Flinch.. flinch... flinch...RAGE. Shaymin might just be the most annoying pokemon to deal with when paired with Thundurus's Prankster T-Waves. Just having the chance to paraflinch hax the opponent to death makes having Air Slash a necessary evil on Shaymin. Outside of that, it's a nice reliable STAB move, with a 60% flinch rate. Seed Flare is to OHKO Rotom - W, ground types, rock types and putting dents into non-resisting pokemon, with an 80% chance to drop their special defence, leading to an almost guaranteed KO the next turn. Earth Power is to deal with Heatran and steel types in general. The Life Orb is to provide a nice boost to Shaymins offenses without forcing it to be locked into an attack.
tumblr_m7d9l7tAuh1qlms3vo1_500.gif

Pwne's Bod (Heatran) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Protect
- Heat Wave
- Substitute
- Earth Power

(BAN ME PLEASE) has honestly been an awesome addition to our team, being our talon counter, one of two amoonguss counters, among other things. Heatran's base 130 special attack is outstanding along with it's not-half-bad mixed bulk, allowing him to easily take strong attacks, and take NVE attacks really well behind a sub. (BAN ME PLEASE) is one of the glues of the team, it synergizes well with most of the mons, and brings a slowed pace to the game, setting up subs, and hiding w/ protect. Speed Evs are to outspeed adamant bisharp and pretty much guaranteedly outspeed all other heatrans.

Heatran is a pokemon that provides a nice combination of power and bulk. Having access to 91 / 106 / 106 defensive stats and a fantastic based 130 special attack, he hits hard and can take a hit. Heat Wave is for a powerful STAB spread move to hit Aegislash, grass types and non-resistant pokemon for large amounts of damage. Earth Power is to hit other Heatrans, fire types, rock types and for getting past pesky Wide Guard Aegis. Substitute + Protect is for being able to attack from behind an extra layer of defence, best set up during an obvious switch. When paired with a balloon, Heatran come in on pokemon locked into Earthquake or other ground type moves and set up.
tumblr_mzkigkXGYg1scncwdo1_500.gif
EXCALIBOO!
Pwne's Strimpf (Aegislash) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Stance Change
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature
- King's Shield
- Wide Guard
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon

Aegislash is another mon on our team that brings a sort of relative bulk to the team. It's our Anti-TR mon, taking on mons like Aromatisse, Cress, and others. Standard Special Aegis, wide guard comes in handy w/ most of the mons on this team being weak to some sort of common spread move, such as
Tran: Surf, EQ
Skymin: Rock Slide, Icy Wind, Blizzard, Heat Wave
Darkrai: Hyper Voice
Thundurus: Rock Slide, Ice Spread
Aegislash is probably the biggest glue on our team, being able to synergize well with all of the mons on this team to take out some kind of threat. Shadow Ball+Flash Cannon to hit the major TR users in dubz, and for good neutral coverage overall. Modest > Quiet to outspeed other mons with aegis's base speed, and to finish off a weakened aegis b4 it hits us.

Aegislash is the perfect anti-TR pokemon. Being capable of having its way with virtually every setter in the meta, and being bulky enough to take a hit and hitting back HARD. Kings Shield is an absolute necessary move on every Aegislash set, shielding it from opposing attacks, and getting the opportunity to drop an opponents attack 2 stages. Wide Guard allows Aegislash to protect its teammates from spread moves such as Hyper Voice, Earthquake, Heatwave which are all common in doubles. Shadow Ball is a strong STAB move, hitting ghost and physic types incredibly hard, and hitting neutrals for significant damage. Flash Cannon is the same, but for rock, fairy and ice types. Both moves have a chance to lower the opposing pokemon special defence 1 stage, which is just gravy (Shadow Ball having 20% and Flash Cannon having 10%). We chose to go with a Modest nature instead of a Quiet one as we wanted to be able to hit opposing Aegislash faster, rather than after because Darkrai's Snarl made it pointless to be slower.

Threatlist: red- huge orange-mild *common **less common
530.png
Excadrill**- Scarf Excadrill can neuter this team if not played around carefully, being able to OHKO my main wallbreaker, mega-gardevoir, hitting ridiculously hard with EQ/Iron head. Stick to using aegislash to wide guard against spread moves
445.png
Garchomp**- In the same boat as Exca, but weirdly, it's mega is easier to handle because garde outspeeds and kills with h voice.
186.png
Rain** (in General)- When played right, rain has the ability to pretty much bulldoze this team. Thundurus and skymin are both offensive checks, so they can be struck down with a quick ice beam or draco. Conserve them to paralyze sweepers and use Aegislash to block spread moves and get off big hits on Rain sweepers
485.png
Heatran*- Regular heatran w/ sitrus/lefties are easy to handle. ShucaTran and Ballontran really hurt me, as they normally can get off a surprise kill when they reveal their item/dodge an hp ground/earth power. Relatively useless after that, though.

625.png
Bisharp*- Hits very hard, but is slow enough to get revenged by the majority of mons on this team. Can leave a hole in the team if left unchecked.

Good Team Pairings:
282-mega.gif
491.gif
Gardevoir+Darkrai. The core this team was built around can take on many common cores such as Lando+Rotom, Kanga+Anything, tran+amoonguss, etc. Darkrai can also soften up physical attackers with a fast will-o so garde can survive a strong physical hit
642.gif
492-sky.gif
Thundy+Skymin. This highly offensive core's main goal is to spam stronk moves and watch things fall. it's also the two mons i use against rain, as they either OHKO rain setters or cripple rain sweepers

aegislash-shield.png
+anything. Aegislash is awesome on our team sheerly because of how weak most mons are to spread moves. It's also used against most TR Leads w/ darkrai/thundy, as it can hit the vast majority super effectively.

I'm really happy to see more people from the Doubles room posting Doubles RMT's. :] I'll be sure to rate this sometime later today, and so will my nig finally; cool team meng

Definitely a cool team. Bulky Darkai is fucking cancer.

Will edit this with a rate when I get home/don't have butt level internet speed.

Just some things to think about, as I'm sure these fine men will be able to deliver their promised rates in due time. Meanwhile, consider these changes, guys (not going very in depth with this; it's late and ugh)

This team is pretty Offensive, so it's necessary that you cover all of your defensive bases with coverage attacks.

Some things you need to cover:
~Priority (attackers mainly, you don't have room for Quick Guard on this team)
~Speed control (Swift Swim / Chlorophyll / Tailwind are pretty annoying as your team is mostly frail glass cannons)
~Fast Ground-types (because your main form of Speed control, Thundy's TWave, does not work on them)

Suggestions:

Make Darkrai more offensive.

I don't know what your current spread achieves in terms of bulk. Max Speed is certainly not necessary; Skymin and Thundy-I provide more than enough Speed for this team, and if your only goal is to outpace physical attackers so you can burn them, then you don't need Timid. Taunt is kind of redundant on this set too; you've already got it on Thundy and Gardevoir fears attacks more than she fears status and other stuff like that. I think you can squeeze in a coverage move, like Focus Blast, instead of Taunt. Focus Blast is cool because it hits pesky Steel-types a lot harder and is almost perfect coverage with Snarl. You get to smack Excadrill, Heatran, and Bisharp all directly for an OHKO, immediately removing them and covering Gardevoir so she doesn't have to waste a turn using Hidden Power Ground. A better spread is also necessary; one such as 220 HP / 44 SpA / 244 Spe Modest. This spread lets you retain your bulk (investing solely in HP is much more efficient than a spread of EVs, helpful tip). In fact, you take less damage from Mega K's Return (Return will OHKO half as often) so you're actually bulkier than you used to be. You're still pretty fast; you outpace 252+ 108 Speeders by 1 point (no point in trying to beat 110s because you can't) This lets you snarl Keldeo and FBlast Terrakion before they attack Garde. 44 SpA + Modest is all you need to always OHKO 4 HP Excadrill with Focus Blast. You don't need more because Mega K and Heatran will never be OHKOd regardless of how much investment you have, though you can run 252+ Modest to try and nab the OHKO on Terrakion, as 44 SpA only OHKOs 6% of the time.

Make Heatran bulkier.

You don't need that much Speed on Heatran. What you need is bulk. With FBlast on Darkrai, Bisharp is handled with much more security, and other Heatrans are pummeled by Earth Power from Skymin, FBlast from Darkrai, and HP Ground from Garde. So fuck that, go with simple 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDef Modest Heatran. More bulk means better coverage against Trick Room and priority attackers such as Mega Mawile and Mega Scizor. I would also suggest Shuca Berry over Air Balloon because the team is so offensive and should be able to fall back on Heatran whenever necessary in order to sponge hits. Being forced to throw in Heatran because nothing else on the team can take a Fire Blast shouldn't force you to forfeit your ability to sponge a Ground-type attack.

Other things I encourage you guys to try are Tailwind on Skymin / Thundy-I to beat speed spam and random Hidden Power Ices on things to beat Ground-types. However, I will let you guys decide on how you choose to go with that; I'm merely just bringing it to your attention that these are options that you have.

Good luck, Shaian / GlassGlaceon! Cool team :)

Good luck, Shaian / GlassGlaceon! Cool team :)

Thanks for the rate Electrolyte Shaian and i have done a lot of testing and have come to a conclusion. We will be adopting the new spreads for Darkrai and Tran, but we won't be replacing Taunt with Fblast or the air balon. We really have seen that we need the extra insurance against TR, and focus blast misses way 3 much so yeah. The new spreads are working fantastically, and the bulkier spread on heatran is pretty gorgeous :]

8 other ppl owe me rates though ;_;

Finally got around to rate this, GlassGlaceon and Shaian. :') I really like the team, and I am loving the idea of using a bulky Darkrai for support purposes; a very unique strategy that can catch your opponent off guard and still be effective.

Although this team is already fairly solid, there are a few minor changes I would like to make. I recommend a Modest nature over a Timid nature on Shaymin-Sky due to the fact Max Speed Modest Skymin still manages to speed tie base 111 Pokémon with positive speed natures while having added offensive firepower to compliment his Life Orb. Skymin still has the ability to outspeed the majority of the Pokémon in the Smogon Doubles metagame even with a Modest nature, and you always have Thundurus with Prankster Thunder Wave if you still require speed advantage over your opponent. I'd also like to note that Modest LO Shaymin-Sky OHKOs Landorus-Therian with 4 HP EVs 93.8% of the time, further revealing that Skymin can deal a significant amount of damage to any Pokémon that doesn't resist his attacks.

The only other change I would make to this team is to change Heatran's EV spread to 248 HP / 252 SAtk / 8 Spd; this allows Heatran to outspeed opposing standard Heatrans and attack them first with Earth Power.

Some other options you could consider would be Hidden Power [Ice] on Skymin over Earth Power for coverage against Lando-T and Garchomp like Electrolyte mentioned, or even STAB Flash Cannon over Substitute on Heatran for extra coverage against opposing Fairy-types such as Mega-Gardevoir and Sylveon. But of course, this is completely up to you two whether or not you guys would like to utilize these other options and incorporate them into your sets.

Overall, this team is really cool, Shaian and GlassGlaceon. Good luck you guys! :]

A better spread is also necessary; one such as 220 HP / 44 SpA / 244 Spe Modest. In fact, you take less damage from Mega K's Return (Return will OHKO half as often) so you're actually bulkier than you used to be. You're still pretty fast; you outpace 252+ 108 Speeders by 1 point (no point in trying to beat 110s because you can't).

I actually experimented with this spread on Darkrai, and I found it effective. But Glass and I made reached another chance, after Darkrai lost to AuraRay's Latios because it couldn't outpace it and hit it with Snarl. A spread of 220 HP / 144 SpA / 144 Spe Timid allows Darkrai to outrun max speed 111s and only loses minimal damage (342 SpA vs 348 SpA). This spread also lets it get the jump on situational things like Jumpluff, if that ever needs to be handled.

ok chatted w/ glassglaceon on PS and gave him a rate so i figured i'd just c/p the convo here:
GlassGlaceon: Asurfer
+Audiosurfer: yes?
GlassGlaceon: Could u r8 my dubs RMT?
+Audiosurfer: link
+Audiosurfer: cant do it now cuz im exhausted
GlassGlaceon: o
GlassGlaceon: :[
+Audiosurfer: but i could give it a look and rate tomorrow
GlassGlaceon: it's mine and shains
GlassGlaceon: btw
GlassGlaceon:http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/moonblast-a-double-doubles-rmt.3506614/#post-5479465
+Audiosurfer: ok my rates are
+Audiosurfer: bulkier thund set
+Audiosurfer: yache > lo on skymin
+Audiosurfer: shuca > air baloon on tran
+Audiosurfer: actually you can keep air balloon if you want
+Audiosurfer: or actually no shuca is better
GlassGlaceon: yeah shaian and I had a lil debate
+Audiosurfer: thought exca still ohkoed
GlassGlaceon: o
GlassGlaceon: ;_;
+Audiosurfer: but then i calced in dubs
+Audiosurfer: and it lives the hit
+Audiosurfer: and i'd say get rid of sub since ur tran is important to check zard
+Audiosurfer: and runnin down its health is a no
+Audiosurfer: stone edge is a good replacement
+Audiosurfer: it ohkoed tflame zard and volc
GlassGlaceon: I was thinking about running stone edge
+Audiosurfer: w/o investment and w/ a modest nature
+Audiosurfer: and is so unexpected
+Audiosurfer: so i personally like it
GlassGlaceon: But zard isn't rly a problem to my team
GlassGlaceon: :/
+Audiosurfer: and for dealing with Charizard, which otherwise wrecks the rest of the team
+Audiosurfer: so i assumed it was
+Audiosurfer: if not then ignore that
+Audiosurfer: lemme think of another thing
+Audiosurfer: 3 options for you
+Audiosurfer: 1 = taunt
+Audiosurfer: which is cool to completely mess up amoonguss
+Audiosurfer: and trick room and stuff
+Audiosurfer: 2 is wow because wow, but most physical attackers that you'd wow will mess up tran if it stays in so i'd say nah
+Audiosurfer: 3rd is more unorthodox
+Audiosurfer: and a little experimental
+Audiosurfer: but could be really cool too
+Audiosurfer: magma storm
+Audiosurfer: to trap mons like politoed and such and then kill them off
GlassGlaceon: ooh
GlassGlaceon: i might
GlassGlaceon: try tht
tl;dr -
  • offensive thund ----> bulky thund (252 HP / 120 Def / 18 SAtk / 98 SDef / 20 Spd @ Sitrus Berry + calm nature) the spread lives a fire blast from zard, a return from jolly mega kang, and outspeeds jolly loom
  • life orb skymin -----> yache skymin (eases rain matchup a bit since u dont have to worry about ice beam as much. charti is also an option for excadrill's rock slide tho)
  • air balloon tran ----> shuca tran (air balloon is easy to pop and shuca is more versatile and eases ur matchup against opposing heatran a little)
  • substitute tran ----> taunt or will-o-wisp or magma storm (these are all potential options, the individual merits of each are explained in the thread)
cool team dude, hopefully you enjoy the rate and gl with it going forward

Looks great, everything has been said
I suggest Sitrus over Leftovers however on Darkrai as Darkrai usually gets killed by many things and Sitrus turns 2HKOs into 3HKOs
Also support Audio's ideas
not much to say, it's really decent, good job guys

Wow I'm seriously in love with this team. You guys just gave me something I want to build myself. Hope that's okay though. Anyway, kudos to you for making such an amazing team.

Thanks for the rate audio, been really busy so just got around to seeing this. Will test out everything mentioned, and i'm really liking the idea of yache skymin, so I can't wait to go test that out. Shaian we got more work to do brutha ;_;
ty for the rate U-Turn Out i was gonna just change this without thinking but I'mma have to test this before i just go along with it because I play the team to where i try to conserve darkrai for as long as possible, but I'll try it out mang
