Draft Morgrem

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 8

**Price Range**: 1-2 points

**Overview**: Morgrem is a decent low-cost dual screens setter with access to plenty of other utility moves boosted in priority by Prankster. It serves a very similar purpose to its evolution Grimmsnarl for a much cheaper price, albeit with also much worse stats. It can still be a good pickup for a cheap price as a good support option for frail, offensive Pokemon reliant on setup. Morgrem mainly suffers from awful stats as a not fully evolved Pokemon, leaving it both frail and weak offensively, so it can be fairly easy to take advantage of, making it a predictable one-trick pony.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Dual Screens Support**: Morgrem uses Prankster Light Screen and Reflect while holding Light Clay to give its teammates an opportunity to set up or live a hit they normally wouldn't. It can use Parting Shot to pivot in its teammates while also lowering the foe's offensive output. Taunt can be used to limit setup, entry hazards, and Defog, which removes dual screens. Thunder Wave can be used to slow down opposing Pokemon. Morgrem can also sometimes use an attacking move to not completely fold to Taunt, and it can use its STAB attacks and especially Foul Play to deal out solid damage to Pokemon weak to them.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Dark Pulse, Dazzling Gleam, False Surrender, Foul Play, Play Rough, Sucker Punch

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot

**Utility Moves**: Light Screen, Parting Shot, Reflect, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Trick

**Coverage**: Burning Jealousy, Drain Punch, Leech Life, Low Kick

Niche Moves
========
**Fake Tears**: Fake Tears can be used to help your team break down specially bulky Pokemon.

**Scary Face**: Scary Face can lower Speed on Pokemon like Ground- and Electric-types that are immune to Thunder Wave.

Common Items
========
**Light Clay**: Light Clay is used to maximize turns of Light Screen and Reflect, allowing Morgrem's teammates to benefit from them as much as possible.

Niche Items
========
**Eviolite**: Eviolite boosts Morgrem's awful bulk and allows it to live hits it normally would not.

**Lagging Tail / Sticky Barb**: Lagging Tail, Sticky Barb, and other similar hindering items can be used alongside Trick to cripple opposing Pokemon.

Tera
========
Morgrem should never be your Tera Captain under most circumstances, as it doesn't get a lot of use out of it, and there are usually better options for the role. However, should you decide to use it as your Tera Captain, it can use Tera Ghost to block Brick Break.

Draft Strategy
========
Morgrem can fit well on already-solid teams as a utility-focused dual screens setter, and it can be good on teams with strong offensive sweepers while also helping keep the opposing offensive options in check.

**Setup Sweepers**: Morgrem can enable setup sweepers with its dual screens support and other utility moves. Teammates that appreciate this can be Pokemon like Gouging Fire, Zarude and Palafin.

**Ghost-types**: Due to Brick Break being a common way to break dual screens, Morgrem appreciates being paired with a Ghost-type to have a switch-in to Brick Break and keep them up. An ideal partner is Gholdengo, as it also blocks Defog from removing dual screens, and Annihilape can be another great option to take advantage of Defog through Defiant.

Checks and Counters
========
**Dual Screens Removal**: Foes with Brick Break, Defog, or Psychic Fangs like Galarian Weezing, Great Tusk, and Mew can reduce Morgrem's effectiveness by removing dual screens, although Morgrem is naturally immune to Psychic Fangs.

**Dark-types**: Dark-types like Darkrai, Meowscarada, and Greninja are immune to Morgrem's Prankster utility moves and can sometimes use Morgrem as setup fodder, and its offenses are often too weak to do meaningful damage even with super effective STAB moves.

**Fairy-, Poison-, and Steel-types**: Pokemon like Enamorus, Iron Moth, and Iron Crown can easily knock out Morgrem with STAB super effective moves often even through dual screens, although they have to watch out for moves like Thunder Wave.

**Overview**: Morgrem is a decent low-cost dual screens setter with access to plenty of other utility moves boosted in priority by Prankster, like Reflect, Light Screen, Parting Shot, Thunder Wave, Taunt and more. screens is already mentioned & the rest isn't really needed in the overview It serves a very similar purpose to its evolution Grimmsnarl for a much cheaper price, albeit also much worse stats. move the last sentence here Its Dark/Fairy typing gives it an some unique advantages like being immune to Psychic and Dragon, as well immune to opposing Prankster moves. just dex info that isn't really needed Morgrem mainly suffers from awful stats as an NFE, leaving it both frail and weak offensively, so it can be fairly easy to take advantage of, making it a predictable one-trick pony. It can still be a good pickup for a cheap price as a good support mon for frail, offensive Pokemon reliant on setup. move this sentence to after the sentence about grimmsnarl (mentioned above)

**Dual Screens Removal**: Opponents with Brick Break, Defog, or Psychic Fangs like Corviknight Galarian Weezing, (corvi isnt good this gen, wanted to put a more frequently used example) Great Tusk and Mew can reduce Morgrems effectiveness by removing screens, although Morgrem is naturally immune to Psychic Fangs.

**Dark-types**: Dark-types like Darkrai, Meowscarada and Greninja are immune to Morgrems Prankster utility and can sometimes use Morgrem as setup-fodder, and its offenses are often too weak to do meaningful damage even with super effective STAB moves. but can be threatened with super effective Fairy STAB.

**Fairy, Poison and Steel-types**: Pokemon like Enamorus, Iron Moth and Iron Crown can easily knock out Morgrem with STAB super-effective moves often even through screens, although have watch out for moves like Thunder Wave

It can use Parting Shot to pivot in its teammates while also lowering the opponents foe's offensive output. Taunt can be used to limit opposing status moves like setup, (AC) and entry hazards, while also stopping and Defog, (AC) from removing which removes dual screens. (awkwardly phrased, please lmk if this isn't what you intend to say) Thunder Wave can be used to slow down opposing Pokemon. Morgrem can also sometimes use an attacking move in the final slot (I'm not sure how creating movesets work in Draft, but is this really necessary to write down? There isn't a listed set here like in a typical analysis where there would be options for a moveslot.) as to not be completely fold to Taunt bait, and it can use its STAB attacks and especially Foul Play to deal out solid damage to Pokemon weak to its STABs them.
