Moug's UU RMT (Top 200)

Moug’s UU RMT

I’ve kind of gotten sick of OU. Volt-turn, Sandstorm, Rain, it’s no fun to me. So I decided to try my hand at UU and have done okay, but would appreciate some suggestions.

I don’t have a designated lead so pay no attention to the order.

Now on to the meat and potatoes.

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trait: Download
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Tri Attack
- Discharge
- Ice Beam
- Recover

My bulky special attacker, this thing is an absolute monster and I am really surprised it is not used more. Eviolite gives this ‘mon amazing defenses without any investment. I put 252 in HP and SpA for even bulk and the most power while Modest nature gives me an even bigger boost. If I am able to get a +SpA boost from download this little duck can reach over 500 SpA. Tri Attack is a powerful stab with Discharge and Ice Beam for coverage while recover allows me to tank hits and keep firing back.

Flygon (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Outrage
- Earthquake

Honestly, one of the most replaceable members of my team, he is more of a filler then anything so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. But if you don’t already know about scarf-gon then you really need to play more. U-turn is for scouting, Edge-Quake for coverage and then Outrage to clean up at the end. It’s as standard as you can get but it gets the job done.

Hitmontop (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Fake Out
- Mach Punch
- Close Combat
- Rapid Spin

Hitmontop <3 This little pointy headed bugger has won me so many games I’m starting to lose count. Tech-top is one of its best sets for good reason. Fake Out and Mach punch do absurd amounts of damage with priority. Rapid spin support is essential in a very hazard laden meta-game. CC gives me a high powered move when Mach punch just won’t cut it. Max HP and Attack give me some bulk and lots of extra power.

Shaymin @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 6 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Seed Flare
- Earth Power
- Aromatherapy
- Rest

Why everyone doesn’t use Shaymin confuses the hell out of me. Stab Seed Flare with life orb, Modest and max SpA is one of the hardest hitting moves in UU, it just hits everything hard; resisted or not. Earth Power is for coverage on fire types like Arcanine and picking weakened Pokes off with a 100% accurate move. Rest allows me to recover all of my HP and abuse natural cure. Aromatherapy is my wild-card, no one expects it. People will just toxic my Dusclops or P2 and assume the game is won, wrong. Aromatherapy saves my butt with those random toxics, scald burns, Twaves, etc. It’s an extremely useful move and I don’t feel that I lose any really important coverage by using it.

Dusclops (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Night Shade

You son of a bitch. That is what I imagine most people saying when they see this guy in the team preview. Nothing kills it; it takes hits like no other and keeps firing back. The fighting immunity is extremely important with P2 and Empoleon otherwise scarf-hera would bend me over. Will-o cripples physical attackers while Night Shade lets me avoid being taunt locked. Sub-Split allows me to play an annoyer role with more stall oriented pokes. They can rest and recover all day while pressure drains them of PP and I just keep Pain Splitting to recover damage and Subbing up to prevent status and take hits.

Empoleon (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 6 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Roar
- Stealth Rock

My special wall, hazard setter-upper and phazer. I know there are better walls out there then Empoleon but he does so many different things it is hard to replace him. Stealth rocks are there because not having the best move in the game is kinda dumb. Roar to stop CroCune and others from setting up while Scald and Ice Beam give me some coverage and firepower and the occasional burn.

Well, here is the team in all of its glory. I managed to get into the top 200 in PO on the PO server so I know the team works well but definitely could use some tweaking. Like I said earlier, Flygon is my least used and most replaceable member. I welcome all comments and hope to get some advice.

Teambuilding isn't my strongsuit but I would swap night shade out for seismic toss on dusclops so you can hit normal types like stoutland and such. Night shade lets you hit ghosts but most of them will just tear your ass open with shadow ball anyway.

Looks like a pretty strong team setup.

Does Rapid Spin on Hitmontop come into play much? He has no way to hit ghosts, so a spinblocker (pretty common : Mismagius/Dusclops/Chandelure/Sableye take your pick) makes that move pretty worthless.

Rapid Spin is kind of hit or miss, it definitely has been used enough to warrant a moveslot, but I am thinking of replacing Flygon with a pursuit trapper, Krookodile perhaps?

Cool team, but in my opinion, Dusclops is a complete waste of a team slot on any team other than designated stall. It is able to take hits, sure, but that doesn't help if half the metagame sets up on it. It also has no form of reliable recovery outside of Pain Split and Rest, both of which have extreme downsides if you are relying on them, as well as no leftovers recovery. What I would recommend in its place is Sableye. Sableye is able to take on all the pokes that Dusclops was, and with priority Taunt, is able to prevent itself from becoming setup bait. This poke also gives you a great sand counter, which your team seems a bit weak too atm. Sorry if this sounded really critical, but I'm just trying to help, so please don't take it personally. Glad you've begun to get into UU and hope to see you on the ladder!

Thanks for the comments! Strangely enough, sand is one of my best matchups. Shaymin's seed flare allows it to take out all bulky ground/rock types and Tech-top allows me to revenge stoutland very nicely. I will definitely give sableye a try over dusclops though.

Dusclops is significantly bulkier than Sableye, though it does lack reliable recovery. Sableye also doesn't take Heracross as well as Dusclops does and this team is rather Heracross weak otherwise. Both have their strengths and weaknesses IMO.
