Substitute- PP 10/ BP --/ ACC –
As you know, substitute is probably one of the most whored moves in Netbattle.
What it is
When a pokemon uses substitute, it creates a little doll using 25% of its hp. The doll takes all damage for the user until it is broken. For example, if a pokemon has 100 hp max and uses substitute, then it will lose 25 hp and create a doll that takes ¼ of its hp or in this case 25. So when the doll takes 25 or more damage as it would have it will break.
Substitute also does other things:
It blocks-
-Trapping moves
-Confusing
-Sleep
-Paralyzation
-Burning
-Poison
-Stat lowering moves
Note that it doesn’t block encore and attract. Sub also blocks rapid spin clearing away your spikes. You can also baton pass subs. Note that you baton pass your sub’s hp not the recipent’s possible hp. This is useful in getting 101 hp subs.
Strategies using Substitute
Subpunch
Subpunch is a combo of Substitute and Focus Punch. The way it works is that you sub, either faster or slower (better done slower) to create a sub. The next turn even if your opponent breaks your sub focus punch will still hit. Here are some examples of subpunch:

This strategy is when you continue subbing down to get a berry boost like petaya.

This strategy is when you sub down to 1, 2, or 3 hp to get 200% power flail or reversal and/or salac berry.

101 Hp Subs
101 subs are subs that can take 101 damage. This means 2 seismic tosses or night shades are needed to break it. This is useful when up against people that have ns/st (looking at you blissey). To get 101 hp subs, your base hp has to be 100 or more. Some pokemon examples are celebi, muk, whishcash, and rhydon.
