Introduction:

This is the thread where we will be revising Krilowatt's movepool. All aspects of Krilowatt's movepool, including TM moves, Move Tutor moves, Level-Up moves, and Egg Moves will be revised according to the limits listed below and the requirements listed in this process guide article. All process details for the revisions can be found in this thread.

Base Stat Rating & Movepool Limits:

This is where the BSR Overall Rating and Movepool Limit are decided. In accordance with this process guide article, all CAPs must have a Overall BSR limit that is balanced by the maximum of that CAP's Very Good Move (VGM) limit. The calculator for the Overall BSR of a Pokemon can be found here.

Justification:

CAP10 kicked off with concept submissions on February 28, 2010 and ended its playtest period May 21, 2010. During this period, Latias was considered OU.
Krilowatt was given some of the best stats of any Pokemon we've ever made, and a movepool easily winding up with the absolute most total and Very Good Moves (VGM) that we'd ever given a Pokemon. It was absolutely clear after Krilowatt that power creep was an enormous problem, and it was he that spurred the movepool revisions. The particularly difficult thing with Krilowatt is that with his base stats being so high, he is very, very limited in how many moves he can have.

Anyway, Krilowatt was a tough revision because he's supposed to actually be able to counter a bunch of the OU metagame when teched to, but he can't beat everything at once. Because of this, during the movepool stage, we gave him a ton of individual tools to just beat anything he came against. In revising him, I had to cut off a whopping 43 total moves and 24 VGMs, which meant that virtually all of that extraneous coverage had to go.

In revising and cutting the coverage, I focused on maintaining a few key aspects of Krilowatt's competitive and flavor movepool:

  • Earth Power / Earthquake
  • Counter / Mirror Coat
  • Payback for Latias / Rotom-A
  • Moves for double battle purposes (ie. Follow Me, Helping Hand)
  • No Charge Beam / Light Screen based on the TL's in-process wishes (despite being Type-Move requirements)
  • Ice Shard for pinch countering of Speed-boosted Dragon-types that Krilowatt could use help with
Furthermore, there were many things that were completely eliminated from Krilowatt's movepool that might have been thought to be a great or cool idea at the time of making him. (Because we were obsessed with giving him every tool possible)

  • Fire-type attacks
  • Dragon-type attacks
  • Bug-type attacks
  • Psychic-type attacks
  • Strange and generally useless offensive / utility moves (ie. Aqua Jet / Sucker Punch / Magnet Rise / Knock Off)
  • All Dark-type VGMs except Payback
  • All Fighting-type VGMs except Low Kick
In lieu of this and with a bit of shuffling to keep the flavor and level-up movepools interesting, Krilowatt's new movepool is actually incredibly focused and modest. He maintains all of the Water-, Ice-, and Electric-type coverage he always had, but now must actually use Hidden Power Fire if he wants a Fire-type attack. Thunder, Mirror Coat, and Counter are all repeated moves on the Level-Up movepool so that Krilowatt has something to do as it levels up, while Ice Shard is now a Heart Scale move in the place of the now-gone Sand Tomb and Night Slash. I also got rid of Zap Cannon on Krilowatt because I put Thunder as a level-up move. As cute as Mind Reader + Zap Cannon was, I had to cut it to have his level-up movepool make sense. He also needed another upper-level Water-type move to balance his typing, so he now gets Muddy Water (precedent set by Vaporeon), which is basically a crappier Surf with a chance to lower accuracy. I also gave him Bubblebeam in his level-up list because he starts with Bubble and needed an intermediate Water-type move.

Anyway, I think that I have finished Krilowatt and really brought the little shrimp down to size. I welcome comments and criticisms, however, and hope that I've demonstrated exactly what is expected of these revisions! I have attached to this thread some excel spreadsheets I whipped up for Krilowatt that can be applied to other CAP movepools for revisions or just building movepools in general. They helped me organize what was needed on Krilowatt and count up all the individual parts. Cheers!

I have finished and justified Krilowatt's revised movepool. I now encourage other senior members of the community to post and provide their thoughts on it.

I like the new movepool, but I would really like it if you left Copycat on the movelist. Copycat is an amazing and fun gimmick move that could expand Krilowatt's role if the user wishes so (call me crazy for defending a gimmick move). Also, you have one move count remaining =).

I'll comment on the rest of the movepool later if I notice anything significant missing but for now, good job ^_^.

I can appreciate Copycat, and I do have room in the movepool for one more move. I have added Copycat back as a part of the level-up movepool. I'm happy to know that you're pleased with my rendition of the movepool, though, that means a lot!
