Mowing Down the Competition

Hey everyone, this is Twiggy bringing you his first RU Team. : D Back to first person, I'll say that I got bored of UU and decided to try a tier under. After 5 rough drafts, this is what I came up with. The lead is debatable, although my favorite Pokemon in RU right now is Rotom-C so I'd rather not get rid of it. Thanks for your help!

Edit: My favorite part of this team is that almost every member has some priority move. That means whatever fast-but-frail sweeper better be careful!

Kabutops @ Lum Berry
Trait: Weak Armor
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet
- Swords Dance

Once my rocks lead, Kabutops just wasn't made for this job. However, it (sadly) does way better than Hitmonchan at Rapid Spin. What does this move do? Rapid Spin stops entry hazards (Stealth Rock, Spikes, Toxic Spikes) from damaging your team upon switching in. The best part of this spinner is that it can actually defeat the ghosts that plague spinners. On the switch into a ghost-type, I use Swords Dance and then KO the spinblocker with Stone Edge or Aqua Jet. With Weak Armor, Kabutops can take a hit from Entei and raise its speed by one. This acts as if it were holding a scarf. This is the easiest way for me to rid my team of opposing Entei.

Druddigon @ Leftovers
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 60 Spd / 252 Atk / 196 HP
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Stealth Rock
- Sucker Punch

Druddigon serves as my SR lead. With the EVs, it can outspeed Tangrowth and other Druddigon. Rough Skin gets nice damage on physical hits. Anyway, to the moves. Stealth Rock is a must for almost every team (outside of doubles). Earthquake is for coverage and also hits hard without being locked into a move. Outrage is the locked move, but its power is just too much to pass up. I'll have to play wisely with that. Sucker Punch adds even more priority to my team. This means that I won't have to worry about really fast threats as much. Druddigon beats the FWG core, which is common in RU. The only thing it's missing it Recover! :p But that isn't needed because Druddigon is one of the greatest Pokemon in the RU meta right now. It's pretty great on my team, too.

244.gif

Entei @ Choice Band
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- ExtremeSpeed
- Flare Blitz
- Stone Edge
- Sleep Talk

Entei is my wall breaker. Not only does it hit crazy-hard, but Extremespeed lets it outspeed the likes of Cinccino (now that's an overrated Pokemon) and other quicker or scarfed Pokemon. Flare Blitz is for STAB and the Wall-breaking status. Entei defeats any defensive behemoths that may block the path for an incoming visitor. Stone Edge hits opposing Entei and other fire-types super hard. HP Grass wasn't even used in the battles I've had, so I switched to Sleep Talk for Amoonguss and Smeargle. Entei packs a mean punch and is a prominent player on the team.

479-mow.gif

Rotom-Mow @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunderbolt

This is my favorite Pokemon in RU right now. Rotom-C has established itself as the Volt Switcher of this team. The best part is that it is immune to Spikes and TS, so rocks are the only issues. The 4x electric resistance comes in handy against other Rotom-C and those Manectric who do not predict. Volt Switch is for momentum-grabbing. Leaf Storm is a wonderful STAB that decimates anything--it leaves a dent in whatever is blocking the path. HP Fire rounds out the moves to take on those Ferroseed switch-ins, but Thunderbolt is a wonderfully reliable STAB that I've been thinking over. Thunderbolt is so much better than Trick. This lets me hit walls without having to switch out right after. With all of this combine, it is sure that Rotom-C is the dominant player.

359.gif

Absol @ Life Orb
Trait: Super Luck
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Naive Nature
- Night Slash
- Fire Blast
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower

Absol: the Pokemon who senses disaster. But when it's on the field, there is a disaster waiting to happen. I decided to change Choice Scarf to Life Orb since all my sweepers were locked into something. Absol's Super Luck and high critical hit moves guarantees at least some hefty damage on a Pokemon. Not many can live a crit either. Night Slash hits spinblocker Rotom (which completely walls Hitmonchan). Fire Blast rids Druddigon of Steelix, Ferroseed, and Escavalier. Sucker Punch is for those faster than Absol. Because it isn't scarfed, Sucker Punch at least lets it attack first against faster threats. Superpower is used to finish up anything that resists these other moves. Absol's power is very nice (though he isn't too fast) and he has earned a spot on my team so far. In fact, I like Sucker Punch more than the Choice Scarf set.

561.gif
Sigilyph @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Air Slash / Energy Ball
- Heat Wave
- Roost

I got rid of Slowking because it kind of lost momentum and dies to physical attacks (you'll never live up to Slowbro D: ). For that reason, I decided Sigilyph could do many things. For one, it soaks of Toxic and Will-o-Wisp like a champ. Psychic, with the free Life Orb boost, hits for nice damage. Heat Wave gets Tangrowth out of the way. Roost recovers much-needed health back. The other move is a toss-up. Air Slash hits Dark-types, while Energy Ball gets Kabutops, Rhydon, Lanturn, and others. Sigilyph both absorbs fighting-type attacks and scares away Pokemon to come back later (with more entry hazard damage). I'm contemplating Psyshock for more damage on Clefable and Cryogonal.

So this is my first RU Team. The real struggle is status. If Entei is paralyzed, my wall breaker is ruined. If Absol is burned, forget about it. Please give your feedback below because I'm just not sure XD

Who is the sweeper here? All your offensive Pokémon are locked into one move except for Hitmonchan, goodness. If there is tell me, because I can't see any of these guys sweeping.
Second, like you said, Aerodactyl seems to be doing nothing. So, putting two and two together, I highly recommend replacing Aerodactyl with Golurk.Golurk can set up Stealth Rocks while spinblocking, a feat that no other fellow pocket monster can boast. In addition to that, he also has high attack, and can learn a wide range of moves, including Earthquake, Dynamicpunch, Ice Punch, Shadow Punch, Stone Edge, and more. He also has two great abilities to choose. Iron Fist is great for boosting the power of his punching moves, and No Guard can be used effectively in combination with Dynamicpunch. Of course, you lose valuable speed, but you retain Stealth Rocks and more importantly gain a powerful, bulky attacker that can punch holes in the opponents team for your other team members to take advantage of.

Who is the sweeper here?

I guess I could put a Life Orb on Absol. Two scarfers are kind of redundant. I mean, I'm new to RU so bear with me...I guess I overlooked that. I did have Sigilyph as a Life Orb Sweeper but traded it out. I'll try Golurk for sure.

Edit: I did move Absol's set around and like it better that way. My team is still very prone to status at the moment, too. Still trying Golurk, but I'm not sure.

Edit 2: As of now, I'm enjoying Sigilyph and Clefable in exchange for Aerodactyl and Slowbro. On an offensive team like this, Slowbro just can't keep up. I might try Uxie and replace Sigilyph with something else. Still searching for a SR Lead.

Hey Thetwiggy13, I'm glad you decided to give RU a shot, as it is probably the best BW tier at this moment, but I think I can help you improve your team a little bit.

First things first, Kabutops is a terrible stealth rock setter, as it doesn't have the defenses or typing to set up rocks repeatedly, and it also has much more important things to be doing. Here is the good news though, Kabutops is by far the best spinner in the tier atm, and is able to beat p much any ghost barring the non existent scarf tomb or a stone edge miss. This is the set I suggest you run:

Kabutops @ Lum Berry/Life Orb
Trait: Weak Armor
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Aqua Jet
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge

This beats every ghost in the tier, if you SD on their switch into you, you OHKO both Spiritomb and Rotom-n after stealth rocks with stone edge and aqua jet respectively. Lum Berry ignores their attempt to burn or paralyze your Kabutops where as LO gives you an extra umph in your attacks.

Now I know what your thinking, "I have Hitmonchan to spin," but Hitmonchan as you have pointed out on your own is beaten by every ghost in the tier (and this set is beaten by Slowking too, the most common mon in the tier). The only reason to use hitmonchan to spin is Foresight/RS, which nothing on your team requires, so don't use that either.

Without rocks on your Kabutops, you need a rock setter, and Hitmonchan is the easiest mon to replace atm, so I am going to recommend Druddigon as your stealth rocker, as he has really good synergy with your team, and is a really hard hitter. So I recommend the following as your SR setter:

Druddigon @ Leftovers
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 60 Spd / 252 Atk / 196 HP
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Stealth Rock
- Sucker Punch

Yeah, so this gives your team valuable resistances to the ever common FWG cores that dominate RU, access to SR, priority, and what may be the greatest STAB in RU atm. The speed is to outspeed standard Tangrowth with quite a bit of creep to outspeed opposing Druddigon and other speed creeping mons.

CB Entei is really cool, but you have nothing to absorb sleep on your team meaning you have an immediate disadvantage against Smeargle teams, or teams that have Amoonguss, Lilligant or Tangrowth (very common at the moment). So I recommend changing HP grass to sleep talk, allowing Rotom-C to volt switch to Entei to break the sash on Smeargle, while Entei can use sleep talk the next turn to prevent any hazards from going up on your side. It also gives you something to switch into the many Grass types in the tier. Minor nitpick, but the EVs on Entei should be 252 Atk/252 Speed/4 Def which allows you to switch into stealth rocks 5 times instead of 4 without dying. I understand the point of HP grass, but that is better used with Flame Plate as an item as you never want to be locked into HP grass, and you NEED a sleep absorber in RU

Rotom-C needs to run thunderbolt for late game cleaning so either Trick or HP fire need to change to thunderbolt.

Psycho cut is a really unnecessary move on Absol, as Night slash and Superpower have perfect neutral coverage, so I am going to recommend you psycho cut to swords dance, pursuit, or fire blast (with the appropriate EV and nature changes for this one (naive)). Fire Blast allows Absol to beat Steelix and Tangrowth with ease, which allows your Kabutops or Druddigon to plow through the opposing team, pursuit traps ghosts and Slowking (your team doesn't really need this), and SD gives you a chance to boost while players try to play around your Sucker Punch.

Kabutops ---> SD and Rapid Spin
Hitmonchan ---> Druddigon
HP Grass on Entei ---> Sleep Talk
Trick or HP Fire on Rotom-C ---> Thunderbolt
Psycho Cut on Absol ---> Fire Blast or Swords Dance

Best of luck with the team, I hope I helped :).

Hi, and thanks for rating my team! All your changes are definitely right. Psycho Cut on Absol was for Qwilfish, but I should be switching out anyway. I have considered Fire Blast but chose PC even though it wasn't that great. I haven't even used Trick on Rotom-C or HP Grass on Entei. I'll do that for sure. I'll miss Hitmonchan, though it just gets walled so easily. Druddigon has been on my list to try, so I'll give it a shot. Kabutops does okay at setting up rocks, I was just trying it out. Thanks for the help!

Edit: I'm wondering if I even need a Rapid Spinner. I guess I could since Rotom-C will be switching a lot and Entei likes full health, but I might use Qwilfish as a Spiker/T-Wave supporter and TS absorber. I'm debating it. Thoughts?

Bump. I'm not sure if anyone's willing to comment anymore, but someone recently brought up Specs Typhlosion on another website and I'm wondering if I should consider it or not. While it gives a more balanced team, I lose a sleep absorber. Thoughts...?

Hey twiggy, I think you should try out Typhlosion, because he lasts longer than Entei (No Flare Blitz recoil), although you do miss a sleep absorber, you could just use a poke as sleep fodder, then you could use that opportunity to wreak havoc with Typhlosion. He counters a lot of sleep inducing Pokes such as Smeargle, Lilligant, Amoonguss, etc. Try it out :D

Hey, thanks for reading my RMT! I'll try out the Specs set then. I'm thinking the scarf set isn't that great because it sounds like an iffy revenge killer. Eruption is weakened due to rocks and the attacks aren't that strong. It will last longer than Entei, though the priority will be missed. I'll sleep on it.
