Introduction:
Hey I just started playing UU today and made this team. I like the ability moxie and wanted to try it out and see which user I liked best. I've had average success so far but I want to replace one or two of my moxie users with something else that compliments the team, and I'm wondering which one/ones should I replace? What adjustments should I make?
A note on the style of play: So far this team has meant lots of early game switches to soften up the team and allow for a moxie sweeper to come in and stay and wreck. Early game is much switching between arcanine, porygon2, and gligar and then bringing in the other guys.
In-Depth:
Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trait: Trace
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Discharge
- Ice Beam
- Tri Attack
- Recover
I chose porygon two because of his awesome bulk after eviolite. Discharge and Icebeam form boltbeam coverage and tri attack hits anyone else. Recover allows him to stay in for a long time. After Gligar, I usually bring in Porygon2 depending on the threat. He tanks a bunch of different attackers so most of the time I bring him in second. Porygon and Gligar are my defensive backbone. I love Porygon2's trace ability and it has really helped me so far. I've traced a Gligar's Immunity before he tried to poison me, a couple of flash fires, mienfshao's regenerator and sheer force, just to note a few of the better ones. He has all kinds of longevity with eviolite's bulk and Recover, and really stays in to do some damage and take hits.
Gligar @ Eviolite
Trait: Immunity
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Taunt
- U-turn
I generally open with Gligar to set up stealth rocks. Gligar's high defensive stat allows him to tank lots of physical hits. I like Gligar's bulk and his ability to taunt, set up SR, and U-turn out, but I'm somewhat unhappy with his overall moveset. It might be that he's got 4 moveslot syndrome, but I can't find something that is optimal. I had roost on him for longevity but switched to toxic so he could do more residual damage and not be walled as much, as I lost a couple of games because he could not do much damage. What should I change about him?
Arcanine @ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- ExtremeSpeed
- Flare Blitz
- Morning Sun
- Wild Charge
Arcanine has been most useful with his Intimidate ability coming in on physical attackers and hindering their attacking stat. He recovers LO and Flare blitz damage with morning sun and hits pretty hard with Extreme Speed. Wild Charge is meh as I haven't had to use it much. I spend a lot of time switching between Arcanine and Porygon2 as it seems they complement eachother, what with Arcanine lowering the attack stat and P2 coming in and tracing ability and hitting Specially with his Boltbeam coverage.
Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
I've only had one chance so far to sweep with Heracross and it was pretty awesome as Megahorn ripped apart my opponents team. I think this is close to the standard scarf set and it's really straight forward: just revenge kill someone and watch the attack boosts accumulate. He's rather frail and easy to kill but the scarf ensures that he's the first to do damage over other slower and unscarfed/non priority using mons. Out of the 3 moxie users on this team I think he is my fave so far, despite being locked into one move.
Honchkrow @ Leftovers
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Lonely Nature
- Brave Bird
- Heat Wave
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower
Honchcrow has been the most dissapointing moxie abuser so far as he hasn't had a chance to shine. He's very frail and gets KO'd easily, and without roost on this set he has no staying power. He honestly hasn't gotten a kill so far and I'm pretty set on replacing him, but whom shall I replace him with? I don't know, maybe I'm not using him right, but I won't be sad to see him go and have someone else who complements the team take his place.
Krookodile @ Life Orb
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Pursuit
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Krookodile's alright. His Pursuit trapping has got a couple kills and then stacked up his attack stat. Bulk up is probably uneccessary so it should be replaced with an attacking move. Edgequake coverage finishes his moveset off. Like I said, Krookodile's alright, he could be replaced but if I keep him I'll need to change bulk up in favor of an attacking move, either superpower or crunch most likely.
