Hi all, before I start off a small introduction: I started playing pokemon competitively just 2 days ago. Been a fan of the games for years (I'm 22 yo now) but only recently found out I could do online pokemon battling without possessing a nintendo ds. Good thing I watched over 100 online battles on youtube on some channels as it interested me a lot so I know the small basics of the game.
I now did about 200 battles on pokemononline to get some experience and see what's good against what, I still dont know what to expect from some pokémon but from others I've encountered so much that I have a good view about what they do. I managed to keep my rating around 1200ish, I dont think that's too bad for a newbie.
I used smogon to determine the EVs on my pokemon and based my movepools on it too.
Anyway I'll give you a closer look on my team and the troubles I'm experiencing.
Forretress @ Leftovers Sturdy Impish 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Toxic
Spikes
Stealth Rock
Rapid Spin
Well obviously my spinner and entry hazard placer. I also use him quite a bit to toxic annoying stuff with sometimes the opportunity to toxic stall too.
Ninetales @ Life Orb Drought Timid 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Flamethrower
HP Ground
Solarbeam
Nasty Plot
My special sweeper, added HP Ground to deal with stuff like Heatran. Used to have Will-o-Wisp on it, now I dont have anything that can burn stuff (except the low chance of burn flamethrower has), which might hurt me a little. Solarbeam in the sun deals with most water-types, maybe should choose energy ball cuz this doesnt need sun tho at the price of less damage. Nasty Plot is to set up vs something that doesnt harm me at all or that I know will be switched out. I especially like it when my opponent switches into a water- or ground-type that doesnt induce weather. Pretty happy about my ninetales actually, it's not rare that it kills off 2-3 pokemon in 1 hit. A thing that has been annoying me is that when I send out ninetales first together with a politoed, tyranitar or hippowdon sunny day always seems to have first priority which means that I end up getting rain or sandstorm cuz they get triggered last. Is it because my ninetales is faster?
Cloyster @ White Herb Skill Link Jolly 252 Att / 208 Spe / 48 HP
Shell Smash
Icicle Spear
Rock Blast
Razor Shell
Sweeper no.2, a physical one this time. Shell Smash + White Herb combo, if I can set it up there's not much that can stop me. Setting it up is the hard part ofc with quite some weaknesses to exploit and weakness to stealth rocks.
Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf Levitate Adamant 252 Att / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Fire Fang
Earthquake
Outrage
Crunch
My problem-solver, if there is something the rest of my team cant handle he will most likely take care of it with his broad range of attacks helped by his choice scarf to get the first move. He also provides a nice switch from my ninetales where a lot of ppl will try a ground-move on so I get a free switch to my Hyrdreigon cuz of levitate. I chose for a physical setup as most people will expect a sp. attacker and might come in with blissey or some other special wall. He also takes care of espeon and most calm minders.
Jolteon @ Leftovers Quick Feet Calm 252 SpA / 4 Spe / 252 HP
Thunderbolt
Thunder Wave
Light Screen
Shadow Ball
This is actually the only one still standing as it was in my first made team. My best partner vs rain dance teams where the team consists of quite some special attackers and things weak to thunderbolt/thunder wave. Also like to use this fella to paralyze something annoying and vs ghost types to set up a light screen and kill them off with a shadow ball. Seeing as it's still the way as it is from when I started I guess this could use some improvement, but dont know how.
Scizor @ Leftovers Technician Adamant 40 Att / 216 SpD / 252 HP
Swords Dance
Roost
Bug Bite
Bullet Punch
Sweeper no.3, with only weakness to fire and a stab-priority move that can deal massive damage with technician and swords dance this guy can maul through teams. Biggest threat is getting burnt by will-o-wisp while trying to setup.
Well that's the team, hope anyone can give me some advice on how to further improve it and give me some insight in pokemon battling. I'm currently trying to make a list on which pokemon give me a hard time. Something that def comes at the top is anything that has Spore (Breloom and Smeargle Baton Pass crippled me a lot).
Thanks in advance for any comments! :)
