[SET COMMENTS]
Mudsdale is a bulky Stealth Rock setter capable of switching into a wide variety of physically offensive threats such as Toxicroak, Rhydon, Passimian, and Silvally formes such as Steel and Dark. Rock Slide lets Mudsdale threaten Flying-types and Levitate users like Charizard, Vikavolt, and Xatu. Toxic allows it to cripple switch-ins like Jellicent, Virizion, and opposing Mudsdale. Protect scouts Choice item users and gives Mudsdale additional Leftovers recovery; Protect can also help rack up Toxic damage if Toxic is chosen over Rock Slide. Roar lets Mudsdale shuffle out its switch-ins, accumulate more entry hazard damage, and prevent setup from the likes of Curse Snorlax, Bulk Up Scrafty, and Bulk Up Braviary. 64 Special Defense EVs allow Mudsdale to avoid a 2HKO from Salazzle's Fire Blast and Choice Scarf Indeedee's Psychic as well as avoid an OHKO from +2 Salazzle's Fire Blast; this lets Mudsdale serve as a check to these Pokemon in a pinch.
Mudsdale slots best into bulky team compositions that appreciate it checking or countering a plethora of physical attackers. Bulky Steel-types like Copperajah and Silvally-Steel enjoy Mudsdale switching into Ground- and Fighting- types, and in turn provide Mudsdale with respite from Grass- and Ice- type attacks as well as strong special attackers. Xatu can switch into Grass-types, special attackers, and status moves that threaten Mudsdale. Xatu also provides a way to keep entry hazards off of your side of the field without removing them for the opponent like Defog users would. Fire-types like Salazzle and Charizard appreciate Mudsdale switching into Pokemon like Rhydon and Snorlax, and in return take advantage of Vileplume, which often tries to switch into Mudsdale. Grass-type teammates like Vileplume and Whimsicott help alleviate pressure from Water- and Grass-types like Jellicent, Rillaboom, and Virizion. Vileplume also provides a switch-in to Toxic and doesn't mind burns thanks to its reliable recovery.
